I stumbled across this little gem while getting frustrated with taxes... http://www.neatreceipts.com/

This little gizmo takes your life and can organize it unbelievably, esp for tax time. I own a business and business owners would be wise to at least look at this thing. It easily scans, organizes, produces tax info, etc. all in one program. The real beauty of this isn't the scanner - it's the software that comes with it.

I don't work for them or anything before the 'stop spamming' people come out. I simply cannot believe it took till the year 2007 for something like this to be affordable for everyone. I got mine at Staples.

Very cool! I'm going to have to check it out. How long have you been using it?

wouldn't it just be just as easy to use your existing PC scanner?

That would save you about $200

Prp - as I said, the value is NOT in the scanner, but the software that comes with it. They should really highlight that more on their site.

Here's how it works:
1) Start up the software
2) Scan receipt, document, whatever
3) Create a 'folder' to put the scanned object in
4) Label it with descriptions, tax codes, etc.

Now you have an IRS approved digital scan of your receipt with a description and all info (date, costs, etc.) that will go over to their tax reports area.

At tax time you simply run a couple reports and taxes are done (for the most part). You can export it to Excel, TurboTax, etc.

The problem with just using your scanner by itself is that you somehow need to organize and categorize those receipts and then you still need to enter those in a spreadsheet or something for tax purposes. You cannot just take one scan and be done.

then your post should have been "Incredible software" instead of "incredible device"... because the device is pretty damn unimpressive

I guess it's semantics b/c the 'device' is the scanner and software. You cannot just purchase the software w/o the scanner, so to just say software is misleading b/c you cannot buy the software w/o the scanner.

well, that sucks (and is stupid as hell IMO).

They'd be better off making just the software and having it work with any scanner.... more people might be inclined to try it then.

Then again, bundling the hardware let's them charge >$200 for $30 hardware and $40 software

For $200, it would pay for itself in no time with the amount of receipts I need to keep track of. I could be working for $$ instead of administrative tasks. Thas CDawg!

Wow, this does look great. You're right though, they need to highlight the software portion as that is clearly the selling point.

From someone who can truly appreciate the work it takes to keep things organized--thank you for sharing your find... Now I just need to find some money to buy it!!

Just thought I'd share what I found. If you have to track receipts, esp for tax purposes, this will save you a time of time and money. And for me, time is way too precious when a simple little device/software/package/product can do it for me.

The software is indeed worth much more than the 200 bucks the total package costs. And to have a small, portable scanner is just even more reason to use it.
