my wife is german, i just asked her how the insurance worked over there before we got married.
she was saying that you if you worked, about 3-5 percent of your paycheck(they get paid once a month in germany) goes to healthcare, and if you have kids, all kids under 16 is completely free, no matter what type of care is needed, so if they need a booster shot or some type of surgery, kids are completely off the hook financial wise.
for the adults, if they have a job, they pay 10 percent of the medication cost. so if the meds cost 100 euro, they only pay 10 euro at the pharmacy.
why they hell can't we have something like this.
Because the US pays to defend the world.
Simple truth.
Well, not only that - but the u.s. doesn't tax like other country's. Don't get me wrong - in the u.s. we are taxed beyond legitimate..............but we also only have around half of the workers that even PAY taxes.
I've got a friend in canada - he has a gov't. job. He loves it - "free" health care - although their taxes are out rageous............but, he gets more holiday/vacation time than he can use.
Who pays for that? Seriously - when a guy says "man, with all the time off I get, I can't even do my job"..........who pays for that?
Who pays for all the uninsured in the u.s.? The people that work do. Who pays for them the have insurance now? The people that work do.

well, we can i guess complain about the taxes all we want about other countries.
but the fact is, with countries like canada and Germany, the people there actually see those high taxes put to good use.
for example, because of the 19 percent taxes, Germany can have national healthcare on that level, and my wife says you have to go out of your way to become homeless there.

I was at a Raleigh Chamber of Commerce function recently and the guy who heads up North Carolinas healthcare said 2 stats that I found interesting... the first one is that 10% of the population uses 50% of the healthcare resources.. which I believe. The other was that, due to shortfalls in medicare and medicaid, the insured pay 140% of their own healthcare.

Go outta your way to become homeless, that's awesome lol. Hell here, you can be an illegal alien and still be given all kinds of free benefits/stuff where is the sense in that? Especially when our veterans are looking to be treated better. This kind of stuff really, really boils my blood and gets me quite upset.

That is an excellent point. I've always thought our waste and lack of efficiency is the biggest problem with our spending.
We pay 1 guy $60,000 to sit in a Gov't truck with the engine running, and we lay off his "co-worker" and pay him 99 weeks of unemployment to sit at home.
We're more focused on turning $3.4 trillion into $3.3 trillion than the number of jobs and services we should be getting per dollar spent.

I have a client who recently became a naturalized US citizen along with her husband - while retaining their German citizenship.
She couldn't be more disparaging about the "free" stuff in socialized medicine in Germany. She noted her income tax rate was 50%. Her husband makes $180k+ a year...they will never consider living in Germany because of the disaster that socialism is putting on that country.
She also described a growing problem with immigrants coming to Germany from Ukraine...not willing to work...not willing to learn the language...more than willing to enjoy all the "free" stuff that everyone else is paying for. Sound familiar?

you mean she's pissed that a select few people are making the news about how big and bad the "Free stuff" is?
just like how in this country, people do the same?
my wife said she never heard or personally seen her income at 50 percent. as a matter of fact, lets break it down shall we!!
get your pen and paper out homeboy.
the big tax is called Lohnsteuer. its between 14-25 percent. the rate depends on if your married or not. this is their version of our income tax.
the next is the healthcare tax, called krankenversicherung. you pay this if you have a job, rated a 3.6 percent.
then their version of SS, called rentenversicherung. thats at 5 percent.
Pflegeversicherung. this is for if you have an accident and need somebody to care for you. 1.25 percent.
next, Arbeitslosenverusherung. this one i like the the most. you pay 1.5 percent of your paycheck for this. this is a national fund. so if you lose your job, the government pays your bills until you find another job. my wife says you are REQUIRE by law to show at least 5 jobs you have applied for every month to show you arent trying to live off the system for a substantial amount of time.
straight from the source homey. not only did i research this with my wife, but she pulled out all her old pay stubs to show it. plus, we only been in the states since january 2013. i've been in germany starting november 2007.
so i rounded up all the taxes per month, and its 37 percent. while thats high, thats hardly 50 percent that your client is claiming.
now, i don't know what your client does, but my wife use to work for the major corporation in Darmstadt called Merck. she pulled in roughly around 55,000 euro a year.
so thats the facts as far as that goes.
now back to your opinion. you're trying to say that socialism is "destroying" those countries, yet you then say does it sound familiar? well i assume you mean the US right, which is capitalism. so basically, in your opinion, using your logic, there isn't much of a difference between the two systems when its all said and done.
so, sorry if i'm coming off rude, but whats your point?

Just asking ......
Are there local/city taxes involved as well? (I truly don't know, but it's a possible explanation)
Again, though ...... all of these other countries allied with us can afford to spend a minimal amount on defense, because we are the big brother who will always come to their rescue.

Odd - your numbers don't add up to what this site says the rates are in Germany. http://www.worldwide-tax.com/germany/germany_tax.asp
You say she paid in 37%, this site, and many others I looked at, say at $55,000 Euro, she should have been paying 42% in income tax.
I don't know all the details, obviously - shoot, I don't know all the details of the u.s. income tax (and for the record, I don't think ANYONE knows all that), but does germany then have other taxes? You listed several - and I don't know if those are included in the 42% or not.
But, if sales tax, property tax, etc aren't included, it would be easy to see where more than 50% is paid in taxes.

its in one of those taxes, or they pay that type of tax when they buy products i believe. i'll ask.
but...who? since when has the US done anything to "save" Germany, or canada, or switzerland?
is there a WW3 going on that i'm unaware of? have you SEEN the german military? they aren't slouches. i know. the british military? ever heard of the french foreign legion?
so again...what war or military action is going on in europe that the UN has asked us to deploy all our troops to save them?
cause the last time i checked, there was 2 major wars going on...and none of them were in europe.

sales tax? that isn't taking out of peoples paychecks, thats taken out in products they buy.
do we pay sales tax on our paycheck for the local mcdonalds we eat at? no? so....
if you buy a TV, it has 19 percent taxes. i don't know where that tax goes to, maybe the stuff you just listed.
but that isn't taken out of peoples paychecks. thats the entire point of my post. to list the stuff that is.

No, he means she's from there, she's lived it, she has an opinion.. which, from all that I can tell, is every bit as valid as you and your wife having an opinion...
I'm sure in Germany, just like in the US, if you travel around and ask different people about their views of the government, taxes, healthcare, immigration, etc... you are going to get a variety of answers, just like here.

the whole point of listing the taxes,
was showing that you can actually see where your money is going. in other countries, you can have a warm and fuzzy and know that you're paying into a national healthcare, and that you are going to get the best care. sure, they have private insurance you can pay for, but its not needed.
so high taxes isn't actually a bad thing in some cases, and i'd rather have a slight form of whats going on in canada then pre-obamacare.
if i'm in the minority, thats fine, but its my solid opinion that if i only make 30k a year, my daughter shouldn't suffer that because a guy down the street making 50k gets better healthcare for his daughter.
healthcare should be a government ran thing, because people's lives shouldn't be going to the highest bidder.

Canada? Are you serious? Who the hell is ever going to attack Canada with the US and the world's biggest military sitting on their southern border? Same thing with Mexico. They could almost go without a military, as far as protection from an attack by a foreign power.
Germany ... are you serious? The US bankrupted the Soviet Union, and that's why there is a unified Germany today. Germany was a split state for decades, with half under Soviet control.
Further, maybe these countries are safe today, but a huge piece of that safety has been bought and paid for by the US. Does anyone think, for example, that Libya, for example, would invade Greece, knowing that the US is a Greek ally, and fellow member of NATO? Would an expansionist Libya invade Algeria, Niger, or Chad? Sure, if they wanted to. The US most likely wouldn't get involved in such an action. There are no US interests there, and those countries are not formal US allies. If Libya were in position to do so, and disposed to do so, they would likely succeed. If Libya isn't an example to your liking, how about Egypt? They have a relatively strong military, and, if they wanted to, could impose their will on most of their immediate neighbors.
While countries like Germany, Britain, and other European countries o have capable militaries, their real strength is in the fact that the US has their back. The German army has some 62,000 soldiers. We have over 2.2 million active and reserve members of our military. The rest of the world can rest easy knowing that we have their back. Further, the US army maintains numerous military bases in Germany. Do you really think that this isn't an advantage for countries like Germany, which allows them to spend considerably less on their national defense?
Look at our ally South Korea. How much do they spend on their own national defense? We maintain 15 military bases in South Korea. Would South Korea spend more or less on defense, currently around $31 billion/year, if the US wasn't their ally, with bases and troops within their borders?
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Ok, ate my lunch and looked at the web.. and yes, I will be using wiki as a source here. if you don't like it, take it up with wiki.. Quote:
the big tax is called Lohnsteuer. its between 14-25 percent. the rate depends on if your married or not. this is their version of our income tax.
That range is for people up to about $37,000 a year...
It's 24-42% for people from 37,000 a year up to about $146,000 a year..
Then there is another step that takes it up to 45%.
I also found out that Germany has property tax, 3.5% sales tax, aviation tax, 25% capital gains tax, and on and on...
See, [soapbox] this is one of my biggest problems with THIS country.. how can it be free when nobody really knows how much they are paying to the government every year? This Saturday I will do my taxes and I will be able to tell you how much I paid in income, FICA, etc... what I won't know is how much I paid in gasoline taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, personal property taxes, excise taxes on my phone bills, cable bills, etc, vehicle registrations, drivers license renewals, etc...
I find it very difficult to debate taxes when I have no freakin' clue how much of my money I really give to the government every year.. and I honestly believe the government likes it that way, keep people in the dark because if a guy making $100K a year paid absolutely zero taxes and fees all year and then on December 30, had to write a check to the feds for $40-45K... there would be a revolt of Biblical proportion... but nickel and dime them to death, take the money before they ever see it, let them get used to the fact that every time you get your wallet out some of it is going to the government and we'll just slowly bleed to death without even knowing it... [/soapbox]

The question is why, the question is WHO. Who would want to even bother invading canada? Nobody. So your whole point is well, pointless.
You're whole post had me imagining that we were back in the 80's during the Cold War. But then I remembered, wait a second! It's 2014!!!
Man, I could've SWORN I said Europe. Wait... Let me to back and check my post.... Yep. Right there. Europe. If you think there will ever be a large scale invasion like ww2 anytime soon, buddy, you need to turn off Fox News. Seriously. Chimea is a joke, just like Georgia was. Those countries don't need us military backing anymore. Stop telling me we have bases in Germany. I was stationed in Mannheim for 5 years. Oh by the way, since you seem to have more military experience than I do, did you also know that most of our combat MOS soldiers are out of Germany? Most called BCT's, or brigade combat team, a lot of the infantry and field artillery guys are gone. They are mostly in the big NATO base called grafenwohr. Most soldiers in Germany are support MOS.
But anyway. The only threat you named that is legitimate is North Korea, which happens to be, you guessed it, not in Europe.
But please. Keep going. I'm enjoying myself right now. Go off work early. Nothing else to do.

So your soapbox rant. I agree and that's the point of my post. They know where their cash goes, we don't.
So why are we arguing if we're making the same point?

LOL.. I wasn't arguing. My only point was that this woman has a valid opinion for consideration... then I went on my rant about this country. Glad you agree..

Congress has voted over 40 times to repeal. I hope this guy has a better case. So far most of the concern has been about politics.

FINALLY A DR KAWA related comment!

lol
I've been following him as much as possible. Last I knew he was working to acquire court standing, which seemed very obtainable for him. Got my fingers crossed for Kawa still.
