I thought I would start a thread for current or potential PS4 owners instead of posting in the "VS" thread. I don't want the fanboy wars on here. Buy what you like and if it's not a PS4 I hope you enjoy your console/platform of choice and have access to many great games. Perhaps we can add our own reviews to games we play or post information for upcoming games.
It's a little tough to find one right now because it is pretty much sold out everywhere and Sony is saying April they should get the supply constraint under control. If you are looking for one then check out this Stock Status tracking website. .
The launch games are good and so far if you own a PS3 also the PS+ membership has been very good. So far out of the 4 PS+ titles we were given I have really liked Resogun and Outlast. On the PS3 side I've gotten some great AAA games and I also own a Vita and have gotten some good game there also. For someone like who owns all three current PS systems PS+ has given me more games than I can play. I don't expect the PS+ offerings on the PS4 to get really good each month for a few years. The game library is new and they are not going to give away AAA games yet. I expect Knack after E3 and may be Killzone after that. It took the PS3 titles on PS+ a few years to get really good.
If you don't know what PS+ is it is a subscription service that was optional on the PS3 but manditory on the PS4 if you want to play online. It's like Xbox Live Gold if you know what that is. It costs $50/year and every month they give you 3-4 PS3 games, 2-3 Vita Games and 1 PS4 game. The games are digital and you are free to play them as long as you have your PS+ subscription active. If your PS+ subscription is not renewed you can have access to them again as soon as you renew your subscription. I have had access to tons of games so far, I'll add games to my library that I don't plan on playing right now so I can possibly have them later. They cycle the games out each month, any game you have added to your library is yours forever, but if you forget to added and they take it off the PS+ list your out of luck.
On the PS3 there was a game called Super Stardust HD which is basically a futuristic HD version of Asteroids (old Atari Game)
Well Resogun is the "spiritual" Successor to SSHD. This game is like a futuristic HD Version of Defender (old Atari Game). Resogun was part of the PS+ Instant Game Collection and is a fun arcade type game.
On the PS4 there is no "OMG this is the best game ever" title yet....no The Last of Us, but pretty good quality for a launch. Killzone Shadow Falls I would give an 8 out of 10. As well as Call of Duty and Battlefield, 8.5 for them because they have better online community. I've heard NBA2K14 is very good also but I have not played it yet.
Tomb Raider DE is probably the best title right now for all next gen systems that is not a FPS. (Just my opinion)
inFamous Second Son is coming out this month and Final Fantasy XIV for the PS4 next month. I still need to play both inFamous 1 & 2 which I got with my PS+ subscription (see I told you I get too many games to play).. I beta tested FF 14 last week, it's fun, don't really play the MMORPG anymore but I really liked the visuals and the game play.I was also a big fan of FFXI so maybe I'm biased.
MLB the Show will be out next month on the PS4, it's an exclusive title to PS consoles because it is developed by Sony. It's the best baseball franchise out there.(FACT.........j/k Just my opinion)
With the PS4 selling so well look for more support and a lot of focus from multiplatform developers in the future. IMO you are going to see PS2 level support and the PS2 had one of the largest and the most diverse game library.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeros is releasing on 3/18, There was a lot of flack to Konami because the game is only a Prequel for the main Metal Gear Solid V due next year and can be beaten in about 2 hours, they originally wanted to charge $40 for the game. They have since backed off and lowered the price. $30 for the Retail Copy and Digital Next Gen copy, $20 for the 360 & PS3 digital copy.
I know this is a public message board and I cannot moderate but please no console war stuff in this thread. Strictly PS4 information if we could Please.
I am quite shocked at how extremely well the controllers are/is. Been a huge fan of the PS controllers since it's birth, and they just keep finding ways to make them better and more comfortable. Not really too acquainted with using the touchpad much, but from what I have used - it's not bad. Surely something that wouldn't take a long time to get comfy with using. The built-in mics quality of sound is actual impressive.
Paying to pay online was only a matter of time, so I didn't get too upset when they announced that.
My only complaint about the PS4 is the lack of third person games lol, but that's to be expected on/around launch time. Come this December, I'll go from not having many to select from to heavily debating which one I wanna purchase first (Witcher 3, The Division, Shadows of Mortar (sp?), The Order and so many more.)
Pretty lucky to have been able to acquire a PS4 system and on launch day to boot (without a preorder and without paying a ridiculously overly priced from someone who bought just to re-sell).
The games I've played on PS4: Assassins Creed Black Flag and Tomb Raider. These games are carry over from PS3, so although the graphics and etc were pretty eye catching, I can only assume I've yet to see the full power of the PS4 capabilities.
I'm digging on it, I like the way the system looks too. (not to turn this into another "VS" thread, but the Xbox looks like a 1980's VCR player lol).
I'm targeting November of 2014 to get a PS4. I think the 2nd version of sports games on a new system are worthy of buying new.
FIFA and NBA 2K14 look almost perfect right now, I can't imagine where they'll be in 9 months. I'd also take a long look at the newest COD game (I didn't like Ghosts on PS3).
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
Hopefully there won't be any necessary carry over from the latest Batman that is out now. Didn't get a chanclñto play that one (Origins I believe) since they didn't create it for the newer consoles and I had sold off my PS3 a little too abruptly lol.
I love it also, it took me a min to figure out to kill the green flashing enemies to get to the humans but one f"figured that out I was golden. The 15x multiplier took me a few days to get. I kept dying when my multiplier was in the x14 range, in fact I once died and it was at 14.86.....that sucked.
It was the last trophy I needed and once I unlocked it and got the platinum it felt like a huge accomplishment, almost as much as my platinum trophy on Arkham Asylum, going from being a big button masher to calculating button sequence based on the type of enemy on the screen was tough for me on Arkham Asylum. I also just got my Jack of All Trades trophy for Killzone SF, which really isn't difficult to get it's just time consuming. Need to upgrade all online abilities....those 400 Air Drone Support Kills took forever and a day.

Pretend Origins don't exist. It was made by a different studio team. Arkham Knight takes place after Arkham City. Origins takes place before Arkham Asylum.
Still would've liked to play Origins since I have indeed played all the others. Different studio likely means I'm not missing out on much though. I remember having a very HARD time beating Mr. Freeze (where you had to set bobby traps and sneak attacks, etc). Anyhoo, thanks for the info!
I played Origins, and I thought it was the prequel to Arkham Asylum.
True, it was made by a different studio, but I always thought it was part of the Arkham series because it had all the same mechanics, same characters, same storyline (at least, as similar as they could be... as all three games were pretty independent of each other). In Origins, there were quite a few references to Dr. Strange and a little bit of backstory on what he was preparing for in Arkham City.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

What I was saying is it takes place 5 years before Arkham Asylum, for him who doesn't own a console to play it on he can pretend Origins didn't exist to play Akrham Knight, it's not required for the Story line Rocksteady created.
Rocksteady did AA, AC and now AK, Warner Bros Montreal did AO.
For instance take Star Wars: A New Hope, Empire & Jedi. Someone wrote a story called Shadows of the Empire that takes place between Empire and Jedi. You don't need to read that book before watching Jedi.
That is all I was saying. Warner Bros wanted to make more money off the Batman Franchise and had Origins created, it's not really part of the Rocksteady story line is what I should have wrote.
I switched from years of xbox back to PS, I had the first 2. I absolutely love, i have Killzone, AC4, N4S rivals, a couple lego movies for kid, and nba live 14 which honestly might be the worst baseketball game I've ever played....such garbage mechanics and graphics, animations suck etc...I can't say enough bad things about that game..lol, the rest of the games are amazing. The graphics in KZ are breathtaking. I might trade live in and try the 2k14, even though some people have said that sucks too.
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. -John Wayne
Who wants to play online with me when this Tom Clancy game is released (December). It's called The Division and it's just an online, open world game. No campaign. It looks soooooooooooooo SWEEEEEEEEET:
I can't wait to see what Asteroids looks like on this thing. I have a PS2 and PS3 and didn't really see the need in upgrading since I only use those as blueray players but I could see where even Galaga would look awesome.

So it's like an MMORPG but instead of Magic and Swords you have guns? Looks really cool, I hope it's free to play after you buy the game and not a monthly fee like FFXIV. I'm defiantly down if it doesn't have a monthly fee.
It better be free to pay after a $60 dollar game purchase cause there is no story/campaign/single player mode. If you don't have interest, you have no purpose to buy it.
If they charge a monthly fee, then I likely going to pass on it cause December going to be frantic game release time and there are others I'd be willing to pay 60 bucks and get to play instantly.
I do see them having a crapload of DLC available for purchase, which is shady for gaming companies to do but virtually all do it now. EA being the leader of that crap

I'm only curious because it's set up like an MMORPG (think World of Warcraft, Everquest, Final Fantasy 11 & 14) but instead of magic and swords and stuff you have guns, ammo, some sort of fighter drone, ect.
But the main mechanics is RPG, you have skills and you level them up. I'm sure you can get better weapons/ammo that deal more damage, better body armor that can take more damage. And so on.
Most MMO's charge a monthly fee because the server costs money, and they also make expansion packs and other DLC that are usually pretty large in size. Not all MMO's are Pay to Play but even the Free to Play have microtransactions (as in pay $10 to get that really awesome gun, or instant level your character) and really they are Pay to Win games.
Either way, you have perked my interest and I hope it's F2P and not Pay to Win or Pay to Play.
Quote: If you don't have interest, you have no purpose to buy it.
How dumb does that sound, haha... I mean't internet, not interests.
... and i hear ya FreeAgent bro. Five minutes of Googling results in nothing but the consensus of most of the gamers at the Ubisoft forum predict that indeed, it'll have a subscription fee.
So I went to hook up my bluetooth headset and come to find the PS4 doesn't support bluetooth headsets yet... wtf Sony? There is no way I am digging up my old wired headset I used when I played Socom 2 back in the day.
This is shocking and from what I read, even when Sony does get around to it my current bluetooth headset may not be compatible. What a JOKE
Pretty sure they have a built in small speaker that sounds decent, but no mic. Worth looking into though but I'd still miss my expensive headset that I bought just for gaming.

Quote: It comes with a earpiece with a mic that u plug into controller. Works pretty nice.
It works, but it's crap. Trust me everyone hears your constant breathing and every bit of noise in your house. It's a cheap Mono-Headset.
However, I think we are talking about the Headsets where you have the game audio as well. People bought some for the PS3, but since the Sony changed the chat from bluetooth to the 3.5mm headphone jack on the controller the bluetooth ones don't work. Sony ended up patching in their own headset but didn't patch aftermarket.
The headsets are nice for me because I can play at night and not disturb my wife and kids sleep. I ended up buying a set of the Vita Earbuds that have a built in mic with a mute switch. Works great and sounds great. And they were cheap.
Wait, so those provide PS3 game audio through the controller (where you charge the unit via USB)?
I've been looking for a set of headphones that I can get game audio for a while now. I don't really care about a mic or to hear other people talking. I just want to play games at night without waking the little girls up.

Which headset do you have?
A Turtle Beach brand... friend bought it but disliked it after a few months, so bought another one and then sold me this one for good price. The more I read, PS4 may only support official Sony brand headsets for BT. If that's the case, then i'll be selling my TB headset as it virtually becomes a dust collector at that point

Looks like I need to dig up the hold box and see if I didn't accidentally throw it away haha... whoops! Crappy is better than nothing.

Any 3.5mm headphone will work. Iphone earbuds work. You just have to go into settings and change the option to allow all sound to go through the controller. By default it set to chat only.

I must be missing something. My PS3 controller doesn't have a female headphone jack. It only has the smaller USB input.
Yes, that's what I want, to plug a set of headphones into my controller.

Sorry was on my iPhone, missed you asked about PS3, no I'm talking about the PS4 controller. Since this is the PS4 thread I assumed you were asking about the PS4.
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO in love! Wow. I think I may have to put considerations first to The Order 1886. This small gameplay clip is flabbergasting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't approve of the full 60 dollar price tag that's on it as-of-now, but this is something I will surely own and play again at some point in time.
I think it's more for the people who converted from the 360 to the PS4 and never played The Last of Us. I might buy it if they have some added content but I'm not going to be a first day purchaser since I already own the PS3 version.
I'm still waiting on GTA V on next gen. It came out too close to the PS4 launch and I had my money already saved up for that.
Some Romanian Retailer that has a history of being correct has listed GTA V for Xbox One and PS4 for next year. web page
Really hoping this rumor is real. I would like to play the game on the PS4 but either way I can just buy it on the PS3 once the price reduces.
I'm ecstatic about it, but that's because I sold my PS3 without doing duel diligence. I thought the PS4 would be backwards compatible, but it isn't... yet.
What is this 'yet' you speak of? I hear they're going to having the games on a "cloud" system and that we'll be able to play PS3 and other games via just streaming them or something? Is this what you speak of or hardware mods?
... and about Last of Us, like I said - I'll be getting it at some point as I don't dig the full 60 dollar price tag. When the price drops, I'll be getting it for replay value. Such a fantastic game is worth it, just not worth paying full price for the replay. I'm sure it'll be like the Tomb Raider, it'll come with all DLC and etc included.
