The Pittsburgh Steelers are staying busy.

On the same day Troy Polamalu and Heath Miller received contract extensions, the Steelers announced they released linebacker Larry Foote, offensive tackle Levi Brown and cornerback Curtis Brown.

Foote is the most notable name here, a 12-year veteran who's played in Pittsburgh for all but one season of his career. The writing was on the wall after Foote was placed on injured reserve in early September with a torn biceps. Pittsburgh's leading tackler in 2012, Foote will turn 34 in June. The move saves Pittsburgh just north of $1 million.

The release of Levi Brown was not a surprise. He never played a game for the team after tearing his triceps during pregame warmups after a trade from the Arizona Cardinals. The move saves $6.25 million in cap space.

Curtis Brown was a third-round pick in the 2011 draft. He never started a game and ended last season on IR with a torn ACL.

Veteran cornerback Cortland Finnegan has been informed that he will be released by the St. Louis Rams, sources confirmed to ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner on Wednesday.

An official announcement of the move isn't expected until after the new league year starts next week.

Finnegan, though, tweeted earlier Wednesday a thank you to St. Louis fans, an apparent nod to the fact he had been notified of the move.

Finnegan, 30, signed a five-year, $50 million contract with the team in 2012. He was due a $3 million roster bonus on March 13.

By releasing Finnegan, the Rams will realize an instant savings of $4 million on the 2014 salary cap.

Should Finnegan sign a contract worth $2 million with another team, the Rams would reap that same number in cap savings, up to $3 million maximum. Finnegan's cap number for 2014 was scheduled to come in at $10 million.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said the team is interested in re-signing Finnegan at a reduced rate.

A seventh-round draft pick in 2007, Finnegan struggled mightily in 2013 before suffering a fractured orbital bone on Sept. 26 against the San Francisco 49ers. He attempted to play through it but ultimately landed on injured reserve after appearing in seven games.

Fisher and general manager Les Snead both indicated at the NFL scouting combine last month that Finnegan would be back in some form for 2014.

"He overcame a difficult situation," Fisher said. "I understand he's healthy now. And so we expect him back in the offseason program."

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Hester went from being in the spotlight to yet another nobody due to the kickoff rules. His demand will be low I bet.

I love guys like Finnegan. I would be excited to see him in a Browns uni. I am of the opinion that we need more guys like that on our team, not less.

What will they give us for the right to have Weeden as Luck's backup?

It wasn't that long ago that some people around here were favorably comparing Weeden's rookie year to Luck's.

Who knows, maybe they'll want him as a starter.

Per roto:

Saints released WR Lance Moore.

The Saints tried to trade Moore, but nobody was willing to take on his $3.6 million. New Orleans saves over $2.531 million against the cap with the move but eats over $2.537 million in dead money. Moore was the longest-tenured Saint prior to his release. At 31 (in August) and a product of Drew Brees and Sean Payton, we don't anticipate a hot market. Moore could make some sense reuniting with ex-Saints assistant Joe Lombardi, the new OC in Detroit.

Here's Mr.Value at WR for the Browns Give him 2-3mil/season over 3 years and he'll sign. He can play the slot or inside. Perfect, versatile stop gap to develop some rooks behind him. Scheme fit, for years in the WCO. He'd return home too. Probably makes too much sense to actually happen....

Why?

The Steelers didn't like him as their WR2 and was beaten out by Cotchery. He's a mediocre slot WR that will demand more money because of his age and "supposed" upside.

We need a veteran WR on the roster who's been there done that. He's familiar with the scheme. Mentor, overachieving role model and contributor all in one player. You'll get close to what guys like Edelman or G.Tate will give you at a much cheaper price.

And while the Saints are cap strapped and have an abundance of decent RBs, I'd inquire about the availability of Sproles or P.Thomas

This biggest issue I had with Lance Moore (and this comes from someone who admittedly didn't follow the Saints much) is that he would disappear for several games at a time and do next to nothing offensively. Then, he'd have this huge game and get over 100yds and score 2TDs. Then he'd disappear again.

I know Brees tended to spread the ball around quite a bit, but still don't think that highly of him. Maybe I'm crazy but for the price and the size, I'd rather see Little in the slot over Moore.

just read this

League sources have confirmed that the Colts are petitioning the league to void the trade with the Cleveland Browns this past season for Trent Richardson.

The petition cites the misrepresentation of Richardson by the Browns to be a NFL level running back.

This misrepresentation was perpetuated further by the posting of several "highlights" of Richardson on social medias (youtube), actually gaining more than 3 yards a carry as not be indicative of his true talents.

more to follow..

RBs should be on the cheap with a really good class coming in and some talent in the FA pool.

I don't get the fascination with Lewis and that's from someone who really liked him in the draft.

With all the proven talent around on the cheap, why hope for a guy that has ammassed 36 carries in 3 seasons and has been injured for most of the past 2 seasons?

Edwin Baker has more NFL carries than Lewis and he had none before his brief stint as a Brown, that's how unproven Lewis is.

We can get guys like Sproles, Starks, Jennings etc on the cheap. Why miss on that?

Whatever Lewis gets us should be considered a "bonus", but you just can't naively go into next season expecting him to be a contributor. Let him compete for RB3 with Baker and Obi, that's how it SHOULD be. Get some PROVEN guy in here and a draft pick and THEN may the best man win the job.

I believe you have a very valid point.

With poor production and injuries, I don't believe it would be wise to pass up a cheap deal on a quality veteran at the RB position. He is extremely versatile and experienced.

I don't believe I would sign him to a long term deal if that's what it took, but a short term contract for reasonable money makes sense to me.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
