It prohibits the teams from announcing an official agreement and signing until 4pm. There is however no agreement signed by the Agent who will leak it out maybe. Or in this day n age of social media - it can't be stopped from getting out there. As long as the Team doesn't set up a presser and officially announce it.
the key word was "Technically" when ever you here that word it is like the legal mumbo jumbo alternate word to "BUT" in laymen speak.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

LOL OK,, so tell me why the rule is in place if it doesn't apply to all parties that have knowledge that a deal is done or will be done at 4pm today.. That would include the player and his family, his agent(s), the team etc.
Why have the rule if you can't or won't enforce it.

not enforceable Also not damaging enough to enforce.
Daman they opened Pandora's box so to say when they allowed them to start negotiating prior to the March 11th 4pm eliminating TAMPERING... letting it out that they did a deal just who got damaged/hurt in the process?

Dansby is a much better fit for this defense than Jackson.
if true and it's a 2year deal (or we can get out in 2 years), then I'm happy about it. Dansby+Moats means that we can upgrade at ILB in the draft, but we don't urgently have to early if it doesn't fall that way (I'm not convinced Moats is that good, but will trust Pettine & hope he's better than Robertson at least from last year).

Oh I get all that Eo.. But to me, anytime you put a rule in place, if it doesn't have teeth, why bother..

Kent SomersVerified account ‏@kentsomers don't know if this has been out there since twitter broke. hearing Dansby to Browns, 4yrs/$24m. $10m year 1, $14m guaranteed.

So, D'Qwell was too old at 30 to make $9.3 million this year, so we pay 32-year-old Dansby $10 million this year.
Quote: Jackson wasn't a fit and was expensive. Frontloading the contract for Dansby makes a ton of sense.
I agree. Losing DQ, I did worry some about losing that veteran leadership presence. Dansby is a better player and is also a leader. This is a win for the defense.

I agree, I like the move, also helps by not forcing them to draft a guy just to fill the damn position. They can still draft if they want depth or someone for the future, but at least we aren't having our hand forced.
I know last year's moves didn't exactly make us a contender, but I like the attitude that they went about it with... It seemed calculated more than just throwing money at everyone in sight... For the record I still think if you can improve other areas of that defense (starting with Dansby and Whitner, allegedly) that Paul Kruger can actually still be a productive player for us.
Im suprised more people werent on board in getting Dansby from the get. The Browns biggest weak link in last years pass defense was from the ILB position. Dansby is a top rated ILB in coverage. Im excited about this signing and hope it happens. I want to see this deal done today more than anything.
By "you people" I mean "you people" who live where it is cold (although I hear it is cold in places other than the eastern time zone. I just have yet to experience it.)

It's never a good thing when you have to explain it......
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If they're comparable players, but Whitner is better in coverage, and perhaps a better fit for the defense, then it's an upgrade - and even moreso if it's at the same amount of money.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
I'm good with Whitner wandering back there. Also he's only missed 1 game in 4 years. Dansby is a suitable replacement for Jackson too. So far ok with the moves.
Good solid need signing. Pretty much what I expected (5-7/season). The years are more than I expected, but it's probably more of a 2year deal with the frontloading, which makes sense.
Now let's all hope he doesn't stop playing hard after having signed his last fat paycheck. That's always a concern with 30+yo players, especially getting their money early in the contract.

Ward was supposedly asking for a little bit more (in the $8mil/year range).
Not so sure Whitner is better in coverage. I didn't think so watching him and the metrics bear that out as well.
Also, he nearly legally changed his name to Hitner because he loves to give out big hits (NFL offices talked him out of it with all the concussion discussion). So, if people were frustrated with Ward gearing up for a big hit and missing, then those same people should be concerned with Donte.
Of course, he's a local kid and wants to play for our team. That's a plus. He's also still an above average safety and less than 2 years older than TJ. So, while I think he's a downgrade, it's not like we let Ward go (if we are) and ignored the position.
