Chargers sign Donald Brown
Weird. Mathews was pretty good last year and so was Woodhead. I am not sure how Brown fits.
he replaces Ronnie Brown. Woodhead and Matthews have injury issues, so having 3 RBs ala NO is a good idea for them.

I am guessing this means that Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is not re-signing with them.
Wonder if he's going to be ok with "the receiver"....

49ers traded for Blaine Gabbert. How does this type of conversation even happen?
Jags GM - "Hello, this is Jaguars GM"
49ers GM - "Hi Jaguars GM, this is 49ers GM. I'm calling about a player I'm interested in trading for."
Jags GM - "Really? Who?"
49ers GM - "Blaine Gabbert."
Jags GM - ".........."
49ers GM - "Hello?"
Jags GM - "I accept."
49ers GM - "But I haven't even...."

Insert the name "Weeden" for "Gabbert" and change the team name from Jags to Browns and it still fits. You could also change the team from the 49ers to any of the other 30 teams in the NFL and the same would apply.

Here are the guys left I want us to pursue. Listed in priority order.
FS Chris Clemons - ummm, all the other safeties signed. he is somehow still out there. probably can be had for $4mil/year or so due to age and lack of ability against run. free ranging FS that we need.
CB Tarrell Brown - could be a nice big upgrade at CB2 and allow Skrine to manhandle the slot WRs. shouldn't be cost prohibitive either.
RB Knowshon Moreno - not sure how much money he wants, but RBs are not exactly flying off the board like the other positions. offer him a seemingly fair deal and see if he bites.
ILB Daryl Smith or A.Jordan or Moats - would still like to get another ILB to pair with Dansby as our current WILB starter is...Carder? Jordan would be the best of these guys, but I cannot find any links to what he wants $$-wise.
OLB Mike Neal - I still really like this guy and we still need a replacement for Groves

Like the list, although I'm lukewarm on K.Moreno who only showed up in his contract year and was a bust before that. We also need a vet WR in there if Hawkins offer gets matched. I'd still see if J.Jones could be had at a reasonable deal
Oh, and Groves is still under contract in 2014 with the Browns. He signed a 2year deal.

I'm okay with your list, except Moreno. Used free agent RBs scare me. That's one position you want to buy new. And you can "buy new" in the draft rather easily in the mid-to-late rounds. I'd pass on him and look to the draft.

I've also been thinking James Jones or Brandon LaFell, who I think will become a Patriot here shortly . . . And since I'm talking WRs, I want nothing to do with Kenny Britt, but how on Earth is he only 25 years old? Seems like he's been around forever. Either drafted way young or my memory is shot, which is a good possibility.

Ben Tate is in Cleveland today per @AdamSchefter I've heard #Browns interest is said to be on a "prove it" deal level. Short/cheap deal.
#Browns still looking heavy at Sanders/Edelman and even Decker who the market hasn't been throwing money at.

I think the way it has gone with backs, except for the rare player, most backs are in a "show me" situation. I see them lots of incentive type deals. Especially guys like Tate who have never really had to carry the load for any length of time.
I like the kid and hope we sign him....I liked him out of Auburn. He has a nice combination of power, speed, and enough wiggle to be a plus player at the position.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

That is the only way I would look at a RB in free agency. Too many big ticket guys blow up and never earn their deals.

Not sure, but I remember the last RB we got in free agency who actually came here, was the main feature back and did well throughout the season was Lewis around 2007. That was the magic year. The great thing about Tate though is his age. He is only 25 right now and in his prime. Do what it takes to get the deal done. And as they always say, don't let him leave the building!
Find what you love and let it kill you.

Exactly, backup WR and role players like A.Roberts and Hawkins are getting better deals than starting caliber RBs.
RB market is at an all time low, little to no risk involved and that's why I would look into signing TWO in FA....why not? They cost nothing and can be cut at any time. Sign Tate, sign Starks, draft a mid rounder. Then add Lewis, Baker and the bunch to it and let them battle it out. By the time the season starts at least one of them will be injured anyway.
I look at RBs the way of SPs in baseball...can't have enough of them. Depth is key

Well its a blizzard here so he may not have a choice but to stay in Berea.

Hopefully we have another target or 2 in Berea at the same time, so we can "snow them out", and get them signed.

whoops, had WRs on a separate list
I'd expect James Jones to get more $$$ and go to a contender. Tate - likely too much $$$ too Ford - I like him if he can stay healthy Sanders - I think he's over-rated and will cost too much for what he provides. Ginn - another Buckeye? he could be a solid sign for the right price.
-------------------------
I am expecting Groves to be cut if we can find a replacement. He was a Horton guy and his entire contract is not guaranteed (so pure cap savings). He's the type of guy that gets replaced by a new regime IMO.

Tate shouldn't cost more than McFadden.
As for FA List - we are just going to fill some needs RB is one of them...for a power back and he knows the Outside Zone Blocking system.

I would absolutely NOT cut Groves. He's on a VERY cheap 1.1mil deal. Not much to save here and he's played pretty good when he was healthy.
Mostly agree on the WR. I would consider L.Moore and J.Jones, IF the deal isn't a huge committment.
Interesting rumor, per Rapoport:
Versatile DL Alex Carrington is drawing strong interest from the #Rams and #Browns, per source.

J/C ......
How do you think that Jamaal Charles feels today, after losing 60% of his starting OL on day 1 of free agency?
Jon Asamoah went to the Falcons, Geoff Schwartz went to the Giants, and Branden Albert heads to Miami.
Ouch.

Carringotn is a good player that was under Pettine last year, but I wouldn't push any of our 7 DL off the roster for him. Unless they are planning on converting Armonty Bryant to be Kruger's backup, that is.

Too bad, would have been very cool -- but he really has no reason to take a paycut. Though, just to check -- if we got him in a trade, the bucs still pay his guaranteed money right? So we could cut him later (say after this year or next) without a cap hit?
In that case - $16M this year doesn't seem so bad. We will easily have that money and more. I guess it hurts our ability to roll money into future years though.

The Browns kicked the tires to see if something was there. Would have been sweet to see Revis and Haden together but we can't bring Revis here for big $$, we need that money to resign Haden.

I support this. Matter of fact, most running backs that aren't veterans with proven levels of consistent success should be on a "prove it level" bases. Contract to hire if you will

I'm definitely curious about how the bidding war will shake out.
I would say that you can take Byrd's contract and increase it by 1 to 1.5M per year to get an idea of what Revis will get.
