NFL network said he is willing to restructure the deal but not take a paycut. That can be done by rolling parts of the 16M into bonuses. Don't believe we will do that.

He is probably wanting guaranteed money. His current contract has none.

Makes perfect sense for Revis to reject taking a pay cut. If you are going to be getting paid less why would you essentially let the Bucs/Browns determine your value in a vacuum? Nah, I'd say cut me and let's let the free market decide what I'm worth. I'm sure he'll end up getting more than what we were trying to offer him in the trade situation AND now he'll have a say in where he will go. He'll be completely free.

Boy they have spent some cash on their D -- Think EO was right... they are going all in for that superbowl run.

It must be nice to be able to dangle that in front of FA;s

It's not like they aren't paying these guys. Talib and Ware both got over $20 million guaranteed.

Still with all things being equal it would be nice to add "play for a contender" on the reasons to sign here ledger.

I'm personally interested in seeing where WR Miles Austin goes since he got released by the Cowboys. If Miles is willing to sign on for a 1-year trial run, I'd give him a Browns uni and see how he does. His injury issues are obviously a concern and well highlighted but if he can stay healthy and contribute then we might have something.

This is only me speculating, of course.

I kinda hoped we would sign Tate. His skill set seems well suited to the WCO.

I'm betting Tate got paid closer to a #1 wide receiver instead of a #2. He hasn't done enough to justify big money.

Edit

Quote:

Golden Tate to me just now: "Yes I am taking the deal (with the Lions). It is a 5-year deal for $31M and $13.25M guaranteed."

Josina Anderson, Twitter

I wouldn't want to pay that much for Tate. Especially with the depth of the wide receivers in this draft. Also, players like Hakeem Nicks will likely be cheaper.

This is actually a pretty cheap deal imho...prices going down

I'd rather pay G.Tate 6mil per than A.Roberts or McCluster 4mil per

The Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints are showing why it's silly to worry about salary cap space. Properly run winning teams make it work.

The Broncos are in the situation they are because they worried about cap space. The Saints didn't and now have no room.

Not in the long term, they don't.

Both of those teams have older QB's (and New England) and their window of opportunity at making a Super Bowl run with those QB's is closing fast.
Denver's actions tell me that Manning is almost a slam dunk to retire after 2014, no later than after 2015... so, they're all-in now.
New Orleans seems to be going into that same mode.

An emerging team has no business taking that approach unless it wants to crash and burn before it ever gets off the ground.

Preach it brother! Last thing I want is a team getting built, make the playoffs 1 year and then having to instantly rebuild. I want studs playing for us right now too but let's be smart about it and make sure they fit into our long-term plans. We are aiming at creating a window of years within which we can win a championship.

Denver dropping some $ on their defense. Solid addition there in Ware. He should look pretty yummy opposite side of Von Miller.

Yeah, 7 mill a year is a bit much...

If I was super duper confident in our QB situation, I'd of signed him for that maybe... Cause he's a SOLID #2 across Gordon...

I think we can get equal to the same production out of this draft though with the 26th or our 2nd round pick...

well, there goes the hope that they would start Shamarko with Troy

Great point! I remember the article of a Steeler teammate saying he was ready to start. The fact the Browns draft Slaughter who couldnt make the roster over UDFAs Bademosiand and Gipson didnt help much but Im glad the Steelers traded a pick in a deep draft this year for a S in a weak draft a round later last year and still needed to spend money there. I really dont want the Steelers to sign RB Legerret Blount and I dont think they have the money to do so.

Or kill it with Watson at #4 at around $2.5 mill a year. Boy am I glad the days of $8 mill a year for Courney Brown, Gerard Warren, Edwards and Couch are gone. I wouldnt doubt if Watson will make less then William Green did his rookie year to have one good run against Atlanta.

But I will be happy with Bridgewater and a WR at 26 or 2nd round.

We consider him a #2 but they signed him as a #1. Only time will tell who is right. Will Decker thrive now that he is the man or will he fold like many others who really were #2 receivers? I suspect that later, if only because of his Qb. I would love to know what he would have done had DeMaryous Thomas was the guy leaving and Decker was the DeFacto #1 in Denver with PEyton as the QB.

so, the Raiders decide not to tag Veldheer, go after Saffold and sign him too a contract most expect was too expensive. then, they fail him on the physical and he goes back to the Rams. meaning that Oakland had $60mil in cap room, which was at least $10mil more than any other team and all they have to show for it is retaining oft-injured Darren McFadden? they have now lost Veldheer, R.Jennings, L.Houston, and Saffold (i'm considering him a loss because they could have signed someone else if they didn't waste their time).

Tarell Brown hasn't signed yet...plus some flyer guys and/or reclamation vets:

Tillman
Greer
Browner
Mathis
Florence
Mike Jenkins
C.Rogers
Cromartie
Cox
Finnegan
Marshall
Z.Bowman
Thurmond
Ghee (interesting guy, liked him out of College, was injured a lot.....good cheap depth flyer to take imho)

At this point, I'd probably go for one of Brown, Tillman or Thurmond and would add Cason or Ghee as low risk/high upside backups

We tried to sign him last year and he didn;t want to come here. Why would we be more attractive this year?

Phil Costa signed with the Colts, that gives us some leverage with Mack. Costa is a decent center from the Cowboys.

Thanks. He did say he wanted to stay in Carolina and that he knows "it's a business", in other words: "pay me and I'll be your CB". We probably offered him Chris Owens cheap money and he said no. He was right, our last FO not. End of story.

He now got paid...and left Carolina, go figure
