It's also why the U.S. population is rated near the bottom when it comes to happiness.
So big government and redistribution will make us much happier?
your party is the main one pushing big government. remember that.
americans are overworked. period. the amount of work we do does not reflect in our pay, at all.
I must have had it all wrong when I was providing for my wife and 3 kids and working 60 hours but still having a wonderful family life and raising 3 kids that now have great careers and have given me 7 grandchildren. I must have been working way too many hours when I went from salesman to District Manager to Vice President of a large company. I probably choose to retire early and enjoy my grandkids because I worked so many hours. I will probably never use the large 401k I amassed by working so many hours because my pension is plenty for my wife and me and the kids. I guess you consider me overworked but I still get up at 5am just like the old days and plan my activity for the day. Too many hours? America is overworked? Someone has a serious problem with work ethic?
you know how many people can say the same story with less amount of hours worked in european countries? a lot.
you're trying to justify long work hours with work ethic, which is flawed in so many ways.
if you work 60 hours, and i work 40, and we get the same amount of work done, then who really wins?
If you want to do the least amount of work possible to get by more power to you and I hope you achieve all your goals. Try putting that on resume, that you think America is overworked, and let me know how that works out for you. I don't apologize at all for my work ethic, as a matter a fact, I was rewarded well for it and am very proud to say, that was the American way.

I really like how we pretend about how getting a job is as easy as it was 20 years ago. Reminds me of old people talking about working a summer job and paying tuition.
It was a lot easier from the mid 80s through the late 90s. Job hunting has been a female dog since then. The economy was that much better, the internet finally had the government drop restrictions (scientific and military use only), and our country was running on a high. As I said, in the late 90s, you could get a 10k raise by changing jobs. My record was a 40% raise.

It probably is now. I'm sure people were much happier about 20 years ago, when the economy was good and opportunities were plenty.

what? that doesn't even make sense. so if you're doing a task the hard way, and it takes you 8 hours, and i do it the easy efficient way, and it takes me 4, and we end up with the same quality work, thats me getting by? or is that me being more productive than you?
i don't apologize for my work ethic either. nor should you. but theres a difference between working hard because you have to grind a difficult task, compared to working hard just because.
and by the way, if i put on my resume that i get task done quickly and efficiently, and you put on your resume that you do things the hard way, i think we all know how the employer is going to choose.

Speaking solely for myself, I was much happier when I was working 50-70 hours/week than I am today sitting at home, unable to work. I would damn near kill to be able to go back to work. I hate sitting around doing nothing. I long for the days when I was "overworked". I never considered myself as being overworked when I was doing a job I enjoyed. Not even when I was working almost 100 hours/week for a while when I took over my last store. It needed a lot of work in order for it to be fixed, and my ego drove me to do the work. I enjoyed the challenge though. To me, having to work 30 hours/week at a dreary job such as working on an assembly line would be too much. I need a job with mental challenges, and problems to be solved.

and thats fine Ytown. hell, if my passion was video games, and i got to test video games for 70 hours a week, so be it.
but he's making it seem like just because i don't put in the hours he does that i just wanna get by. thats false.
as a squad leader, i have to supervise and give out task to my team leaders and junior enlisted.
lets say i have 2 connex's that need to be organized. i have team 1 and team 2. team 1 gets it organized in 4 hours, first time no mistakes. team 2 does the same thing, except it takes them 8 hours.
why would i reward team 2 anything when we have other taskings throughout the day? the longer they take, the longer we have to stay at work.
team 1 is going to be my go to team, because they work quick in efficiently, we can get more done throughout the day, thus everybody can get off work in time.

I can work all day if I don't watch myself. That's not always a good trait though...

I guess this is all a part of "change"? We need to steer clear of this poverty of ambition, where people want to drive fancy cars and wear nice clothes and live in nice apartments but don't want to work hard to accomplish these things. Everyone should try to realize their full potential. Barack Obama Read more at http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/b/barack_obama.html#3DyvE4iVZPz1pSq2.99

What are you trying to express here? Knowing you, it's probably a dig at Obama, but it's a quote from Obama saying something you believe in. I'm so confused.

I think it has more to do with the fact that they were focusing on the community instead of a "me me me" attitude.

Take a deep breath, relax and the confusion should subside. I thought you would enjoy the Obama quote.

I'd agree with him if he actually followed through on that. Instead he has policies that punish those that are successful and gives money to the freeloaders. It wouldn't surprise me if he thinks a janitor and a ceo should make the same amount of money.
It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

Of course, it's redistribution and control of the taxpayer.
