Sign him to a multi year offer sheet. Bengals must match to retain him.

While I think Hawkins is a nice player, he wouldn't be my first choice. I would rather have both Julian Edelman and Emmanuel Sanders although they would both likely be more expensive.

He's a fan favorite in Cincy. I assume it's a low offer as he hasn't really done much. He'll probably stay there.

Anybody have the numbers?

My guess is 3-4 years at 2-3mil per year. Cincy didn't slap him with a 2nd round tender, which is at 2.1mil, so that's why I guess 2-3mil.
McCluster and Roberts got 4mil, but he's not that big a name I guess? Impressive 13 career TDs in only 35 games as a backup.

He's probably plan B for slot-WR after McCluster signed with TEN....and at worst he forces the Bengals pay for him.

Good try. Like the FA activity so far...

One nice thing, he knows the offense.... There may be a few differences in terminology, but Sprint Right Option is Sprint Right Option no matter where it's played.

Let's hope. His production can easily be replicated by Benji, so I'm not seeing the point of investing any money with him. And I really don't want to be in a situation where we're picking in the third round and Moncrief, Jordan Matthews and Paul Richardson are all on the board and we end up passing on all of them because we signed a WR in FA.

and about 1,000 receiving yards in 3 years

it also concerns that he was on IR for the start of the season last year

also
http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6505/andrew-hawkins

it was a four year contract.

Idk what they see in him to sigh a 4 year deal

Totally different players. Benji is NOT a slot-WR. I think I have written that the 73rd time on here. Guy shies away from contact on the sideline after catches and is totally soft even in 1on1 jump ball battles....whatmakes you think he'd catch any pass over the middle?

Benji is a WR4 that gets on the field to run a handful of go routes and deep crossers, that's it and he returns punts. He's good at that...and he's a WR4/RET ONLY, meaning that he can't back up outside OR in the slot for more than half a game. This means we need a developmental 5th WR that has some WR2 upside at least or a slot guy that can spot start outside. Benjamin as a result of his game has a very high AVG/catch

Hawkins otoh, is strictly a slot/underneath WR, that's why Hawkins has a low AVG/catch

Totally different players and roles....

Could be one of those guys Farmer is thinking will blossom soon.

It's one thing to get them while they are hot. It's another to get them just before they get hot.

Agreed. Having watched the guy play, since we are in the Cincy area, I always thought the guy had a lot of potential.

Browns offer to Andrew Hawkins includes guarantee that's >3 times Bengals' tender of $1.45M. Bengals source tells me unlikely CIN matches

If it makes us better, it makes me happy.

Doubly so if it makes Cinci weaker.

I'm just saying that he, as a player, is completely unimpressive in every single way. I'm not saying that Travis is good, I'm just saying that Travis is better than him.

Besides, would we rather have Hawkins or Bess in the slot?! We improved in another position if the Bengals don't match. (They won't)

I don't know much about this guy. Some questions:

Is he a good route runner?

Is he a guy who finds holes in zone coverages?

How are his hands?

Since I didn't see it here, Hawkins' tender is original round and since he was UDFA it means we don't owe Cincy anything if they don't match.

It's probably a 4y, 8-10mil deal with 4.5-5mil in SB and guarantees. As small a deal as it gets in FA.

He's a pretty good underneath receiver when healthy...

Except Hawkins is a better route runner than Benji and Hawkins is more shifty. Benji brings more top end speed. I would have preferred Edelman but Hawkins has a skill set that can be used.

Benjamin is a return man and your 5th or 6th emergency deep route receiver on the roster.

I watched this kid Hawkins a lot and he gets separation. This is the kind of kid that becomes a star with a good timing passer.

we realize that he's 28?

good article on him
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/paul_daugherty/09/19/andrew-hawkins/

4 year 12 mill deal to an unproven backup 28 year old WR is kinda crazy

It depends:

Player A: 89 catches for 995yds, 11.7AVG, 4 TDs over 35 games, 2 starts
Player B: 172 catches for 1,500yds, 8.7AVG, 5 TDs over 58 games, 23 starts

Player A is Hakwins who got a 4year offer at 3mil/season and 4mil guaranteed
Player B is McCluster got a 3year deal for 4mil/season and 4.5mil guaranteed

Your choice....

Meanwhile, the details:

https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/443536158169894912

Andrew Hawkins' offer sheet with the Browns is worth $12.2M over 4 years, with escalators that could take it to $14.9M. Over $4M guaranteed.

one will be 29 at the end of their contract and the other will be 32

for what it's worth... I'd rather have neither.

Thanks Mourg.

Hard to get the real overall picture from highlight reels, but it looks like he gets in and out of his breaks quickly. He seems to work the middle of the field. He is very shifty after he catches the ball. Displayed good hands [although they look really small] in those clips. And man, he loved playing against us. LOL

This might be a good move in that it opens up the possibility of drafting another WR who makes plays way down the field.

I really thought Bess was going to be the guy who worked the middle of the field, got first downs, made tough catches, and exploited the holes in zone coverages. I was dead wrong on that one.

Maybe this guy will give us those things.

So? 28-32 is pretty much a guy's prime. He's not a running back or an NBA big man.

I like this signing. This guy has good hands and gets separation. He fills the void of Bess.

As for comparing to Benji, two different guys. This guy can go underneath or over the middle and get open. Good hands. Benjamin is fast, but frail. He's a return man with the speed to come in and blow off the top.

IMO Benjamin= kr, and big play reciever and end around guy. Hawkins is a slot guy, possession receiver.

Nice adddition.
