Can't imagine ANYONE was surprised by this.

Cya Campbell, I truly wish you the best bro but it was time to move on.

thought he was a decent back up but cost too much

I wouldn't be shocked if Campbell ends up back in Chicago. They need a backup now that McCown is with Tampa Bay.

There is a misspelling in your title, it's "Jason Candle".

hey, for 2 glorious weeks, he got to crow about Campbell being the starting QB of the Browns that he wanted for so long. if he just blacks out there (before any more games that happened), then he can remain happy.

Good luck JC. You tried your best. None of our quarterbacks stood much of a chance with ZERO running game behind them. Hope you have better luck where ever you land.

With Campbell cut I think we will be bringing in Grossman as mentor/senior backup.

I hope not. But if they do, it's fine. I prefer taking two quarterbacks in the upcoming draft and going with Hoyer and two rookies. Even if we take a QB at #4 I'd still love to take a quarterback later in the draft to bring along as our #3 quarterback. Hoewever, it's their show. If they think they need a old guy as a second QB coach, I can see the logic in that I suppose....

My thinking is we don't take a first round QB this year (depth at other positions too nice). See how Hoyer plays out. Maybe take a Garoppolo or Murray in the later rounds as our rookie.

Next year IMO is the year to go all in for a QB.

Maybe for another thread :P

I think given the limitations placed on how much a coach can actually "coach" in the offseason and whatnot I think it becomes critical to have a QB on the roster that is familiar with what Shanahan runs and that can communicate it to the players. Whether that is Shaub, Grossman, etc... you have to bring in one of those guys imho. I'd certainly prefer that anyways.

Hoyer needs to learn it too so not sure how much help he'll be to any rookies we bring in.

That pretty well covers it!

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

man,, I go to the afternoon viewing of a Wake and I come back in the midst of horrible road conditions only to find we are down to 2 QB, one that hasn't thrown a pass in a real NFL game and one that has promise...LOL

Crazy times we are livin in

I wish weeden and campbell well.. Maybe they'll catch on somewhere...

In an ideal world, that would happen. But, we know what Seneca Wallace did - nothing (in helping McCoy). It takes a very, very special "on the way out" qb to come in and mentor the guy who's spot he wants.

I saw they are a wash, with Grossman winning out by knowing the playbook...

Campbell is definitely better than Grossman. But he is also more expensive and probably would want a chance at playing time. Grossman is cheap and is willing to be the third QB.

I think we will sign Grossman, too. But, I'm telling you guys..........if he ever has to play, you aren't going to like him.

I can't think of a situation where I would be excited about a 3rd string QB starting.

I know your not. It's pretty much the same with Campbell.

I never like to see the back-up have to play.

Doesn't everyone already know Grossman stinks? He would be our 3rd string QB, if he plays we are screwed either way.

I agree. If we sign him he's just a second QB coach. Not starting material.

Not that I am disagreeing, just that I am a fan of having an experienced QB to mentor the others. I just dont think Campbel or Wallace were ever in that mode due to their egos. Grossman IMO doesnt have that ego.. and yes he would be cheap.. is an exp starter.. and IMo would be a good mentor for whoever we bring on. Also he wouldnt be the worst QB if injuries hit and he had to start.

Anyway i was just throwing it out there... not like we have signed Grossman yet :P

I cant see us signing Grossman as the #3 QB with Tanney still on the roster. Im looking for the front office to sign Matt Shaub and take a QB with the first pick.

What do you think Mary Kay is writing about this? How could the Browns cut an 'elite QB' like Campbell?

I don't think JC was nearly as bad as many people are claiming. Toad may have overvalued JC, but he wasn't that out of line w/his comments.

Campbell is probably a much better QB than the guy who will replace him.

You might want to get off Toad's case about this one.

Yeah Rex Grossman knew the playbook in Washington. Redskin fans called him RG3 And Out. What good is knowing the play book if they can't play? The Browns could hire some Poindexter from Harvard to memorize a play book. I'd rather see them draft 2 rookies and hire another QB coach than sign RG3ANDOUT.
