I'll pass. We have to protect Gordon and we don't know want him to pick up his Steve Smith's attitude.
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

I would take him. He is a lunatic, but he also is one of the toughest players in the league. And he already had a chip on his shoulder before he was cut by a team that paid to get rid of him.

Short, older Wide Receiver with bad injury history and an even worse attitude? I'll go with or not.

I think that Steve Smith would play with a broken leg. Injury history doesn't really matter with him.

1 or two year deal, absolutely. I love guys like Smith, I don't think we have ANY on the Browns. Maybe Whitner and he just got here.

He's only played 16 games in four out of his 13 seasons. Although most of the other seasons were 14 or 15 games. He will also be 35 at the start of the season, is 5'8", has lost a step, and by every report I've ever heard of him has a bad attitude. We have Gordon, Hawkins, and the draft is supposed to be the best WR draft in the 2000's (Watkins perhaps). We're not going anywhere near Steve Smith.

I agree that we won't go anywhere near him. I would just love to have him on the team.

If we had more of a veteran team, then I would take Smith in a heartbeat. People talk about players who will run through a brick wall to win games, Smith would run through a mine field just to get to that brick wall. He might be the most driven player in the NFL. That said, he can be disruptive, and has his own demons. However, for a team with veteran leadership and/or a strong coach in place, he could definitely be a big player. Look at this quote. How could you not love this guy? He still wants to be great, and I bet he outworks everyone in his quest to remain great. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10600889/steve-smith-released-carolina-panthers"I am no longer a No. 1 wide receiver and I know that,'' he added. "And I've been knowing that, and I don't have a problem with that. I will adjust to whatever team and whatever role that I would have. The only thing is I would like to know what that role is and what the expectation is so I can exceed it.''
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

You missed the best quote from that article: Quote:
Smith sent a warning to the Panthers regarding his next team in a radio interview with WFNZ-AM in Charlotte. "If that happens to run through Bank of America Stadium, put your goggles on because there's going to be blood and guts everywhere."

He does go a little over the top, doesn't he?
You have to love his passion for the game though.

I've always liked him, physical and intense. I would take him but not expect him to be anything other than a leader to our young WRs. We would still need to bring in someone else.

Smith has some ... attitude problems, not sure I would want him on a young team. I loved his talent when he was younger, but at this point in his career I think I would take a pass.

He has attitude. I like it..
I think he'd be great across from Gordon with Edelman/Hawkins in the slot...
I'd still draft a future #2 in the #26-2nd round range...
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Would love him on a 1 year deal.
If we don't get him he'll probably goto the Ravens where he will proceed to Anquan Boldin us to death :-/

No comparison to Boldin.
Boldins greatest strength is his size. He's a man among boys usually.
Smith is smaller, and slower. Put Haden on him and we'd be fine... Hell I think Skrine can cover him...
I think I just talked myself out of wanting him actually...

He's still a top notch receiver, but he's only going to go to a contender. New England, Seattle, SF, SD, Baltimore.... Plenty of older players want to go out on top, and I don't hod it against them, I just hope that someday we become that destination where players know they will have an opportunity to win the SB.

And I think you get that way by Drafting well...
The Broncos and Saints are the exceptions that prove the rule, Teams that signed (injured) QBs and then built around them, and only because of the raise of the Salary Cap have they been able to sign anyone...
Seattle will have that decision in a few years, but I think Wilson is the kind of guy that isn't going to demand a huge deal regardless of how well he's doing, as a way to keep the team together... Brady does that alot, allowing most of his salary to be turned into "funny money" that doesn't count against the cap...
The key, as I've alluded to, is the QB, you get one, you play well, you can sign guys to cheaper deals, more people want to come here, etc...

But how does he REALLY feel? LOLetc. One year maybe. Intensity if you can keep him caged until game day. Afraid of a TO taint. A little poison in the ol' waterhole can go a long, long way. Fairly certain our new chemistry won't withstand a lot of craziness, but bring the intensity.

A common theme is to bring in a vet to mentor the youth.
With Smith's permanent chip on his shoulder, would you really want him mentoring Gordon and possibly Hawkins?

This is how I kind of see it. Don't think he'd be interested in coming here and if so, don't think I'd want to listen to that mouth. He's kind of full of himself if you ask me. He went from back to back multiple 1000+ yard seasons to 740+ yards last season. That's only a little over 250 yards more than Greg Little had being set at/as the #1 WR there in Carolina with Newton.
Would pass on him...

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens thought he's worth a 3-year, $12 million deal. So, our defense will find out twice a year if he's worth it.

you have to ask yourself,, he was going to cost the panthers about 1 mill against their cap this year.. Why would they let a guy that had much in the tank go when that's all he costs? I don't know the answer, but that is a little weird

Truthfully, Haden at 5'11 and Smith at 5'9'' and in his later days, I am not really threatened by him going into a Raven uniform. What he isn't going to like is the second he runs his big mouth on the field with Joe, that will like be throwing gasoline on a fire that is alreadyt cooking. Skrine has speed that could likely cover him up well too on single man... I am not threatened at all.

Yes, I was really wondering how much games he's played in the cold too... is his older body, that I am "guessing" isn't too use to the constant cold - going to hold up from some smackings from Hitner while trying to do something out there in a snow game ha ha ha...

Steve Smith sees himself as a "complementary dude" in Raven's offense. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...ravens-offense/Him Vs. Skrine: They're both 5'9'' and they're both also 185lbs. Can Smith's veteran route running/etc surpass Skrine's speed? I don't think so. I've seen Buster's speed bail him out of a mistake more than once. He closes in like a freaking laser-guided missile. The more he improves his technique, and he's had plenty of credible tasks to challenge him - the more he can use that speed for other reasons. Again I say, I don't see Smith as a threat whatsoever. If he catches one passed Skrine, or some chance by Haden - Hitner going to make him feel sorry lol!!!!!!!!!!! You can't talk smack if you're on the ground trying to catch your breathe and wondering when the pain is going to dull and pass so you can get up

I don't know man...I remember Skrine's struggling a lot more against route runners than speed guys. Hartline is the first that comes to mind. He did improve with the season though so I could be wrong.
