I'm curious if we have any aviation insight on the board? Many plausible ideas being tossed around, it sounds like they are leaning towards the plane being taken over.

i don't wanna be all crazy and such...but its looking like a terrorist attack maybe. thought i saw something about two iranians or something with stolen passports?

Apparently stolen passports get flown all the time, I think I heard 3 million times per year worldwide. It's up to the airports to screen passports, they don't do it worldwide like in the US.
I have a strange feeling those two passports aren't the culprit.

I read or heard that at least one of the stolen passports was because the guy was seeking asylum.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Communication systems had been deliberately disabled. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26591056The flight could have been hijacked, or may have blundered into Chinese air space and got shot down. They might not have been able to receive or respond to any warnings they may have received. China would be understandably reluctant to announce what they did.

The whole thing is so strange. I kinda figured it was some kind deliberate act when I saw that both transponders were turned off and not at the same time..
This plane landing somewhere safely sounds far-fetched but it actually seems possible..
If this thing crashed in the ocean wouldn't there be some sign of wreckage?
I just can't see how this plane could get that far onto land without being tracked, unless they are staying very very low to the ground, but even then, people would be seeing it.
Very weird, but I am glued to this coverage. I feel for those families. I could not imagine what it's like for them now. I hope they get answers soon.

Maybe this was a botched attempt that turned into a Flight 93 situation and the group doesn't want to admit that the passengers stopped something worse? That's my guess right now.

I think It was a hijacked and all those texans on board attacked the hijackers and the plane crashed. I think this is just as possible as any other explanation.

Its either the pilots committed suicide, or some other group took over the plane. Cant be anything else. Dont think the plane landed sonewhere else. The passengers would have communicated with someone.

I had to take my Mom to the doctor the other day, and this story was on the news. I wound up talking to this guy who told me that he was a pilot for 20+ years. I asked him about the transponder/tracking device thing, and he said that it's in the cockpit, and the tower gives the pilot the numbers to enter prior to takeoff so they can track the plane.
I asked if that wouldn't also be really easy to disable/destroy, and he said that it would, if someone gained entry to the cockpit.
I asked why they couldn't put the device inside a compartment on the wing, accessible only from outside the plane. An airline employee could enter the tracking code as part of the final takeoff check, they could test it, lock it up, and no one could muck with it until the plane landed. (unless they wanted to remove a wing in mid flight)
He said that was a good idea. I wonder why they haven't done something like it. If I can come up with it, you would think that smarter people handling airplanes for the airlines could as well.

The plane had 2 transponders on it, and both were disabled within 10 min of each other..
They're also saying one of the transponders went off before the last message spoken over radio to Malaysia...

My point remains, why not have at least 1 that cannot be touched from inside the plane.

I guess the other one is down below, but still accessible... As far as having one in a part of the plane where nobody could gain access? I heard someone on during the coverage say pilots like to have full control. I'm not sure if there was a situation where for the safety of the plane and people aboard it, that you would need to have the transponder off... I guess if in some bizzarre situation where the president would need to commandeer the plane? I have no idea. Boggles the mind.

This is just so crazy. I have to think it crashed somewhere, but there's a whole lot of somewhere to look in that part if the world.
But it just seems that anything is possible. It is extremely fascinating, though also extremely sad. Can't imagine what the families are going through.

To me it seems like a terrorist hijacking. Seems they crashed in the ocean. There have been oil slicks and debris, what more do you need? that plane is at the bottom of the sea.

Every oil slick or piece of debris has come back as unrelated. There hasn't been one solid piece of physical evidence. And it's been a week.

everything is pointing at the pilots. the plane was programmed to go off course towards the indian ocean. I have no idea what their motive was, but I believe the pilots are responsible.

What if they tried to fly it to a remote airfield, ran out of fuel and put it down in the ocean like the pilot that landed in the hudson? Then the plane just sinks. It would be at the bottom of the ocean with no debris to find. No idea how plausible, but just a thought.

No matter what advance is made by man ...... it was really alien technology.
I have watched ..... and they bring up a topic, and I'll say "Wait for it ..... wait for it ....." and the TV will say "Ancient alien theorists say ......"

I hate that show so much. They make up so much crap and spout it off as truth. And they make up nonsense. I saw an episode today where crazy hair guy was saying there must be an alien nuclear weapon in the arc of the covenant because people died from looking at it. Waaaaat.
It bothers me people watch that show and are gulible enough to think it is historically accurate about anything.

What's laughable about a belief in aliens that isn't laughable in regards to a belief that a carpenter born to a virgin rose from the dead?

I just find it funny that they push everything as alien involvement, no matter what happened. No matter what advancement humanity makes, it had to be alien influenced. It's like we are totally incapable of making any leaps forward in technology without taking it from aliens. I watched one about a major power outage, that lasted for a relatively minor period of time, and hit one section of the grid, (I wasn't paying a lot of attention) but anyway, the guy opined that it could have been aliens punishing us for something we did, by blacking us out. Really? Part of the grid, for a short period of time, without any pronouncement .....? This was aliens punishing us?  There are reaches and stretches, and then there are those who really go all out to make some connection to aliens for everything that ever happened. "My pregnant wife and I were taken by aliens, and the aliens took our baby from her womb .... and years later we were taken again and saw a human alien hybrid who we suspect was our baby .........."  I don't know if there are alien lifeforms out there somewhere. With the vastness of the universe, I certainly won't discount it. I forget who said it, but there was a quote that went something like "Either there is life on other planets, out there somewhere, or we are the only life in the universe, and either idea is staggering." I would say that I agree with that. In fact, with so many solar systems in so many galaxies in this vast universe ...... I would be surprised if there isn't life somewhere. It just seems so unlikely that there would be so many potential earth-like planets that we know of, and that none of them would have life on them. Who knows ..... if the galaxy has earth-like planets at similar levels of development, then maybe they have creatures of a similar level of development, in which case we (people alive today) will probably never know for sure. (at least in this life)

A couple of those early shows were intriguing, like the one on Gobekli Tepe and another on the Nazca lines....but there are only so many unexplained mysteries of that magnitude. To keep that series going they had to really create some BS.

Since we're just a puny little speck in an outlying spiral arm of the Milky Way, which is just one of an unknown number of galaxies, there's no telling what's out there, and to think we're the only place life could form seems a bit far fetched.
What I do find interesting is these ancient aliens figured out a way to travel the vast distances of the universe and find our tiny little speck, land here in times long past and build all kinds of things, out of stone. Certainly they didn't travel here in stone ships, so you would think they would have already invented the manufacturing of glass, steel, aluminum or other "lighter than stone" substances they could choose to create their monuments with, but no, stone was their choice. Maybe the Earth was just a planetary etch-a-sketch for baby ancient aliens to come play with our rocks?
That said, Puma Punku is a head scratcher.

I like it when they say stuff like "Humans today couldn't even do "X" without using alien technology ...... but then a different show will demonstrate how it could easily have been done. Huge stones/blocks/bricks could never have been lifted into place by ancient man without help from ancient aliens ........ Unless, of course, as a more traditional show says, they did something like build an earthen ramp that they could use to roll the stones up to the top of the structure, and then dismantle when they were done. Personally I find it rather insulting that everything mankind has ever accomplished is attributed to aliens by these bozos.It's like they think that we'd still be living in caves if aliens hadn't lifted us out of our ignorance.
