The one FA that has changed the landscape most in my view is Ben Tate. I now view the following as the draft priorities, in order of importance:

1) QB
2) #2WR/OG
3) #2CB
4) ILB
5) FS

This order doesn't necessarily indicate how or who I would draft, or how or who I think the FO would draft, and it certainly may not align with how you see it.

Here are a couple scenarios that could transpire to fulfill those needs:

Rnd 1

#4 - Bortles/Teddy/Sammy/Clowney (long shot)/Manziel (EXTREMELY long shot)

#26 - Carr/Mosely/Dennard/Beckham/Su'a Filo/Yankey/Pryor/Cooks

Rnd 2

#3 - Carr/Beckham/Yankey/Cooks/Roby/Benjamin/Verrett/Fuller/Gabe Jackson

Rnd 3

#7 - Garroppolo/Jaylen Watkins/Brandon Thomas/Terrance Brooks/Jarvis Landry/Borland/Martavis Bryant/Baushaud Breeland/Dozier/Stanley Jean-Baptiste/McCarron/Smallwood/Purifoy/Ed Reynolds

#19 - Baushaud Breeland/Dozier/Stanley Jean-Baptiste/McCarron/Smallwood/Purifoy/Ed Reynolds/Victor Hampton/Abbredaris/E.J Ganes/Skov/Rachaad Reynolds/Mike Davis/Cyril Richardson

Rnd 4

#6 - Abbredaris/E.J Ganes/Skov/Rashaad Reynolds/Mike Davis/Cyril Richardson/Chris Davis/Christian Jones/Dion Bailey/Ryan Grant/Deion Belue/Anthony Steen/TJ Jones/Antone Exume/Devon Street/Lamin Barrow

#27 - Anthony Steen/TJ Jones/Antone Exume/Devon Street/Lamin Barrow/Brandon Coleman/Phillip Gaines/Kenny Ladler/Jon Halapio/Trai Turner/Terrance Mitchell/Cody Latimer

Of course this doesn't account for players falling, or for picks taken outside of the needs listed, for example if Hyde is there at the middle 3rd or top of the 4th round we could surely take him.

Drafting strictly for the six needs based on the list above, a realistically decent draft could go something like this in the first four rounds:

1a - QB - Bortles
1b - ILB - Mosely
2 - WR - Beckham
3a - FS - Ed Reynods
3b - CB - Purifoy
4a - OG - Cyril Richardson

This draft has the potential to be epic and historic... What if we ended up with Sammy in the first, Garoppolo in the third, Mosely or Dennard at the bottom of the first? What if they all go on to be pro-bowlers?

Obviously much is open to interpretation, and nothing says we won't take a center, RB, DT, TE or any other position within those picks, or trade up, trade down or whatever, but how do you see it? What is your priority of needs, how has FA changed your draft landscape, and what are your thoughts on a solid and realistic first four rounds?

Final note: If you want Teddy, (or anyone else) so be it, put him down and move on, this doesn't need to become a manifesto for drafting Bridgewater or Sammy or Johnny, there are plenty of threads for that. Please try to maintain focus on the top of the draft as a whole, and how the Browns could come away as a much improved, possibly playoff contending team with the right combination of picks.

Have fun!

Maybe a knee-jerk reaction, but I'm wanting to have Guard tied with Quarterback right now.

You'd take a guard at 4?

The only thing I would switch about that is, I would swap #2CB and ILB. I think Skrine is much less of a liability than whoever we plan to trot out there as our other ILB right now. Plus, we already have Skrine, who improved last year, we have McFadden who could still get better. What are our options at ILB?

As for how FA impacts the draft, I agree that RB has now become a luxury pick, I think Tate and Baker will make a pretty decent combination..

I'm not going to break down the various draft options because there are so many of them. I could see QB at 4 or I could see QB at 1B or even in the 2nd.. in short, Farmer opinion of the Big 3 QBs and then the 2nd tier QBs will dictate our entire draft... as it should... because right now, we have Hoyer... and that's IT.

I don't think what we have done in FA should change our draft plans. Yes, we still need a QB and offensive line help, but it would be stupid to pass on RBs, safeties, WRs, and ILBers later in the draft because of the guys we signed in FA.

The failed attempt to get Revis indicates that Pettine and Farmer want 2 shutdown corners. I think they will go after 1 at either pick 26 or 35 unless they draft one of the Cromartie's.

I think there big needs are

1 - QB
2- CB
3 - G
4 - WR

Are they draft eligible again?

I take your point though. May last couple mocks had Dennard there at 26. I was shocked and jumped on him. I think the FO would too over say Su'a-Filo, Yankey, Mosely or Beckham.

I see your point. You'll notice in the draft scenario I posted, I took Mosely over a CB, WR or OG. The thinking being that decisions will be made based on who is there when they pick, and how they are ranked, not that they would make their picks based on the priority of need. In the extreme sense a QB, while clearly the #1 priority, may not be taken until the 2nd or 3rd round.

Very nice list, similar to what is on my wish list.
1) QB
2). BPA I would prefer OG, or ILB
3). Let's say we got OG above, so ILB, CB,
4) ". ". CB above. So WR, ILB.
That about sums it up QB, OG, CB, WR, ILB, then best players available. This draft is very deep at WR, RB, OT, and DB's. I think there are starters into the 4th rd in some of these positions.

I would still have RB as a need. Tate has a question mark for durability and we have nothing else in the stable. besides that good list

I don't think it has changed the draft all that much. If we do indeed get Hawkins, it might take a slot type guy off the radar.

I'd still draft insider backer help. I'd still draft a runningback, I wouldn't shy away from drafting a safety.

Let's take a look at what has been done. Any remaining needs have to be addressed in the secondary-FA market or through the draft.

----------------------------------

Needs going into FA: SS (if we lost Ward), C (if we lost Mack), FS, ILB(x2), CB2, WR2, WR3, TE2, OG(x2), QB, RB1, RB2, FB, and depth (every team)

Signed FA:
Donte Whitner (SS -> lost Ward)
Karlos Dansby (ILB)
Ben Tate (RB)
Jim Dray (TE2)
Isiah Trufant (Depth - CB4/STer)
Re-signed O'Neil Cousins (Depth - OG, I guess)

Pending FA:
Andrew Hawkins (WR3) - RFA signed, Cinci has until 3/18 to match
Alex Mack (C) - Transition tagged, unsigned

Lost: Shaun Lauvao (Washington), TJ Ward (Denver)

Cut: Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell, D'Qwell Jackson

Revised Need List (leaving pending on list):
C (if we lose Mack), FS,
ILB, CB2, WR2, WR3, OG(x2), QB, RB2, FB, and depth (every team)

I don't see us going after a FS at this point. I also don't expect us to go after more than 1 Guard.

I see us looking for 2 ILB (outside of Dansby, there isn't an ILB on this team that I want to see on the field as a starter at any time) a veteran WR2 .......definitely a QB ......a CB, and a RB.

We might look for a FB. I don't know how Shanahan's offense ran, as far as the most common alignment, 3 receiver, a FB, or 2 TE. Does anyone know how much Shanahan used the FB in Washington? Usually a WCO type uses the FB a fair amount ...... but that can also use other alignments.

Anyway, in the 1st 4 rounds, I see us going QB, 2 ILB, CB, RB, and maybe another WR. We might look for another TE at some point, depending on how many TE we want to keep on the final roster.

I think we'll go after a depth safety in the draft and agree that we'll likely only go after 1 OG (hoping we don't just trust Pinkston/Faulk to come back from injury).

But, just because I don't think we will go after guys, doesn't mean I don't think they are needs

I thought that Pinkston returned from injury last season, and even played some.

he did, but the thought (at the time at least) was that he wasn't fully recovered, he suffered a severe ankle injury in the preseason, and he ended the year hurt (concussions).

too many injuries to rely on him being healthy IMO.

I would fully expect us to take a FS, if one is there in the second or 3rd round (like Pryor, Brooks or Reynolds). It's kind of thin at that position, but there are a couple that could land right. I'd only expect one guard as well, and possibly a center as opposed to two ILBs, though two ILBs is certainly not out of the question. Corner is obviously up in the air in the first four rounds if we sign Cromartie, but we will likely take one at some point even if we do sign him. I'd only expect to take an RB late, and with this class I bet we come away with a DT too, 4th or 5th round maybe.

So, please help me understand. Our 2nd-weakest starter on D at a premium position will not get addressed in the draft, but backups at what are generally considered low priority positions (ILB, RB) in the draft will get taken in the first four rounds? Is that just to ensure a quality starter at each of those spots?

I am probably in the minority here, but I like Gipson as a safety in Pettine's defense. He has decent ball skills, and is a solid tackler.

Last year he was the deep Safety, and had 95 tackles, 5 INT, 1 TD, and 11 Passes defensed. That was his 1st year as a starter, and he often got little help deep, as receivers were let loose by guys like Owens and McFadden. He got hung out to dry a lot. I think that he has skills worthy of further development.

Further, Pettine doesn't play short/deep, free/strong Safety in his defense. He plays left/right, and can play off some zone covers to hep them out. It seems like he plays man outside, with a combination zone in the slot and secondary receivers. (TE/RB)

I don't think that you need superstar players at both Safety positions, as the 2 Safeties will play a lot of zone cover along with the LB and/or nickel/dime CB(s). I think that Gipson has the ability to play that type of coverage.

I see ILB as a train wreck right now, except for one guy we just signed. We have Dansby, and that's it. If he gets hurt, we're screwed. We need 2 ILB, one to start this tear next to Dansby, and one in case someone gets hurt. ILB is the biggest black hole on our defense right now. We need serious help there.

I am curious as to who you see as the starter at ILB next to Dansby? Who is their primary, capable backup? I love what Dansby brings to this defense, but we have nothing inside after him.

I love Pryor, but the more I see of him, the more I see another Whitner/Ward SS type.

McGill and Reynolds are off my board, they're undraftable imho. They shy away from tackling, both, although McGill takes it to another level of patheticness. I'll be mad if we even waste a 5th on of these guys.

The SS/FS tweeners Pettine seems to be looking for are J.Ward and T.Brooks, maybe D.Bailey and T.Boston too

If you want more of a classic ballhawk, you'd have to look at the CB/FS tweeners like Fuller, Gaines, Joyner, D.Johnson

FA hasn't changed the draft much. We really haven't filled many needs. We have "lessened" the urgency of need at ILB and RB and WR, if Hawkins.....but we still should add one of each, either through the draft or later in FA.

The way I see it, we need at least 3 new starters on each side: CB2, FS and ILB on D and QB, WR and OG on O. While many would argue that we could live with Skrine and Gipson, I'd disagree. They were part of the problem in the 4th Qtr of games and both had very inconsistent seasons. Finding up to 6 new day one starters is asking too much out of this draft, that's why I hope we still sign a couple in FA

Here are my "realistic" targets at each position:

QB: Bridgewater, Bortles
WR: Beckham, Matthews...Norwood
OG: Z.Martin, G.Jackson, Steen, Mewhort, T.Turner, B.Thomas
CB: Fuller, Gaines...Aikens
FS: Brooks, D.Johnson
ILB: Skov, Kirksey, Bullough

RB: Sims, Freeman, J.White (don't see us going Hyde now unless he falls to 3rd)

If you stick to this "board", you'd come away with one hell of a draft

IMHO, to date it only changes RB. But with only a 2 year deal for Tate, RB just slides down the list from big need to long term need. So, if a guy they love is BPA after round 3, I can see us taking one.

If Mack/Hawkins don't end up in Cleveland, then C and slot WR get added (or re-added) to the needs list.

In no particular order OG, QB, S, MLB (x2), CB, WR then depth (C, OG, maybe QB2, the rest) with Mack/Hawkins being Browns in 2014.

I think he's better in coverage and can come off the edge better as well. Definitely a hammer though.

No love for Borland among your ILBs?

I would really dig this draft:

Round 1 Pick 4: Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida (A)
Round 1 Pick 26: Calvin Pryor, FS, Louisville (A)
Round 2 Pick 3: Odell Beckham, WR, LSU (A-)
Round 3 Pick 7: Chris Borland, ILB, Wisconsin (A)
Round 3 Pick 19: Travis Swanson, C, Arkansas (A-)
Round 4 Pick 6: Ka'Deem Carey, RB, Arizona (A)
Round 4 Pick 27: E.J. Gaines, CB, Missouri (A)
Round 5 Pick 5: Chris Watt, OG, Notre Dame (C-)
Round 6 Pick 4: Ed Stinson, DE, Alabama (B+)
Round 7 Pick 3: Kirby Van Der Kamp, P, Iowa State (A)

Only problems was I finally had to reach for a guard. Don't love the pick but didn't want to come away empty.

Would replace FS with C at this point. Sounds more and more like even if Mack re-signs, it will be on a one year contract. Just doesn't seem as though his desire is to play here any longer. Scenario I would be happy with:

4) Watkins, WR
26) Roby, CB
35) Martin, OG/OT
71) Smallwood, ILB
83) Mettenberg, QB
102) Richburg, C
123) Andre Williams, RB

Martin could play guard and could potentially move to tackle at some point. Richburg becomes a player that could be groomed to take over at center if/should Mack play on a one year deal. Would also add depth for the ZBS. Don't know if he could also add depth at guard in the short term.

Martin may not last until 35 and Mettenberg could certainly go earlier. Remaining picks could be used to move up in any of the first four rounds if a specific player is desired.

Would prefer Gilbert or Dennard but good likelyhood both will be gone in the first 20 picks. Roby to me is a good fallback and could be argued would have been a top 15 pick last year.

In my opinion, we really shouldn't have been drafting one before the 4th round anyway ... even before we had Tate. I still think that stays about the same. Grab one in the 4th round, as it's a fairly deep (yet weak) class, and let them sit behind Tate and learn the game at the pro-level.

Honestly, Free Agency hasn't really changed a thing for me. I think our priorities remain the same, with maybe the lone exception being that we have a slightly higher need for a OG. Since the season ended, it's been:

1: QB
2: CB2, WR2, OG, S, ILB
3: RB

I think it has changed quite a bit actually. Granted that we swapped at ILB and S but Tate and Hawkins eliminate 2 early needs.

With the bulk of WRs valued around the last 1st/early 2nd the fact we won't likely be looking for a slot type eliminates some potential prospects from consideration.

With Tate it's likely we don't take a RB before our 2nd 4th rounder if even that high. Doing so would likely tick him off and depending on how he performs this year we could use a higher pick on a runner next year. With the needs we have it's wise to wait a year for a major pick investment at RB. It's possible with Obi and Baker that we only look for a FB candidate. I think Obi in particular fits at HB in this system pretty well.

I still think it's likely we'll sign another ILB and QB2. The highest of probable prospects would be Moats and Grossman. Slightly less likely we could still bring in an OG, S, or CB.

If DRC signs to play opposite Haden it will effect the draft enormously. I'm not sure how likely that is but given his other suitors being NYJ and NYG I think we have the best spot for him. I expected one of our 1st 3 picks to go to a CB2. If we don't need a CB early it moves each position of need up a full round which is just huge.

As of right now I view our needs, in order of importance, as QB, ILB2, OG, WR2, CB2, and possibly FS for the highest need for new starters. Adjusted with consideration to this particular draft classes value I see our needs being filled in order of QB, CB2/WR2, OG, ILB2, FS. I personally don't see a major upgrade over Gipson in this draft. Personally I would just solidy the S depth and make a run for one in the future as the other positions in this draft are strong.

If CB2 is filled with DRC it could mean a lot. ILB has one elite prospect and alot of similar 3rd/4th round prospects. If we land DRC we could make a move for Mosely and still get a WR at 35 and starting OG in the 3rd. I don't see much difference in grade of the OG or WR prospects in the 1st 2 rounds but the distance between Mosely and Skov is vast.

If we could exit the draft with one of the best prospects at each of QB, ILB, OG and WR I would view it as a massive win. If we chose to skip on QB(I still like Teddy but acknowledge this class is highly controversial and risky) it would be really difficult to come out of this draft without a jackpot of roster talent. The idea of Robinson(RT), Mosely and Beckham as our top 3 picks is literally breathtaking. Throw in Steen, Christian Jones(reminds me of poor mans Dansby), and Seastrunk and we might see a Superbowl one of these days.

My dream draft looks something like this:

1a QB Bridgewater
1b WR Matthews
2 CB Fuller
3a OT/G Mewhort
3b ILB Skov
4a FS Brooks
4b OG Steen
5 RB J.White
6 ILB Bullough
7 FB

3a to 4b are somewhat interchangable and so are 1b and 2. Would really like to have 1 or 2 more mid rounders. Would look to trade down from 26 or 35 to accomplish that

With all this talk about the depth in this draft, I won't be surprised to see the Browns trade back up into Rds. 2 or 3 to get the guy they're targeting.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Or trade down to it. Drop 3-4-5 slots for a 2nd rounder.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I wouldn't be surprised if we use that extra 3rd and 4th as ammo. Not for #4 as most think.

We have 4, 26, 35, 71, 83, 102, 123, 133. I see the biggest gap between 35 and 71. I think we could use a 123 and 83 to get back in the top 60. I think we could use 71 and 26 to split the difference of 4 and 35 to jump back into the teens for an elite talent like Mosely or Dennard.

In that situation we'd end up with 4, roughly 16, 35, roughly 60, 102, 133. Along with our 6th and 7th rounder we'd have a total of 8 picks.

I'm glad we addressed RB and WR in free agency. We can add depth/projects late in the draft.

1. QB
2. CB
3. OG
4. LB
5. S
6. WR/RB

Hopefully we pick up some secondary depth before the draft!

I wouldn't be upset with that at all. About half I'd have in the same spot, a few others I'd change up, but this is a draft I'd be happy with.

With the securing and official acquiring of Hawkins - do we look at Watkins now at #4? They've passed on combine interviews on all top qbs and passed on Teddy's pro day, likely will not be seen at Johnny's pro day - who does this leave worth while to take at #4? Mack?

Sounds like we're in a position to wheel-n-deal if taking a QB at #4 is not what the front office is considering.
