So we're supposed to blindly praise and support every decision Obama makes? Sorry comrade, not going to happen.

Obama tried to sound tough. Everyone knows he wasn't going to take military action over this. Obama's 'tough guy' talk just made him look like a fool.

I'm also not sure how criticizing Obama translates into loving Putin.

It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

I like how they basically described the newscaster the same way someone would describe Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh to Russians.

Odd, I don't ever recall Beck or Limbaugh talking about nuking the Russians. This must be your own prejudices.

Beck on "nuking anyone that doesn't agree with me." Link

I'm fairly sure I could dig up something along those same lines with Limbaugh as well.

That sounds bad.

Out of curiosity, would you have a link to the whole segment that contained that? I've checked and I can't find it.

Yeah, I've got nothing.

how can you say that?

putin in obama are in two different forms of government. putin pretty much has power to do whatever he wants, when he wants.

thats not how our country has EVER worked. our government isn't ran like that. we have a checks and balances system. our president doesn't have half the freedom of power that putin and past presidents in russia do.

i hate when people compare the two when its not even remotely the same.

could you imagine how MORE crazy the stuff our presidents would do have they have damn near absolute power like putin? putin's antics right now would be the least of our problems.

hell, it still is.

I think you're missing the point, maybe I'm not expressing it very well, so let me try again.

Let's take Obama out of the equation for a minute. Pretend it's President John Smith, heck let's say he's a Republican. Also, since it really doesn't matter for what I'm trying to say, let's say he has unlimited power like Putin.

Even with unlimited power, the people of the United States do not want a war with Russia over Crimea/Ukraine. We're sick of sending our soldiers to die for the freedom of some far away country.

Putin knows this, he knows we won't go to war. So, basically, he can do whatever he wants, and we won't stop him. This has zero to do with President Obama. The situation would play out in exactly the same way with Republican President John Smith. Putin has the upper hand, and he's successfully pushed his advantage to get what he wants. We can't impose stricter, harsher sanctions on Russia because the EU buys large amounts of natural gas from Russia, they don't want to upset the apple cart, so to speak. So our President basically is in a no-win situation. And yes, the opposition is going to criticize him for it, because that's what they do. Midterm elections are coming up, nothing personal. Hell, this is like Professional Wrestling, in so many ways. When Speaker Boehner and President Obama were "feuding" over the budget and the sequester nonsense, they were taking some time out to play golf.

So I guess I don't see what you're so upset about? Putin got what he wanted, the west didn't. We would have been better off from a PR standpoint just to go along with it, I think. Making all these silly empty threats makes us look weak, and makes him appear strong.
