so let the EU handle it. i'm tired of our country fixing everybody else's mess.
we are great at that. maybe we should work on fixing our mess. we got enough problems as it is HERE.

Hey, how about my good friend - ex marine. He did what he was told to do. Didn't like it, but he did it.
After he got out, he joined the reserves. Got married. Had 3 kids. He's been to afghanistan as a reserve - leaving his job, his wife, and his kids behind. He didn't bitch about it. As he said "hey, I knew when I joined I might get called."
And NO, I am not advocating going to war, so please don't say that or insinuate that.
but thats exactly what you're doing.
i've deployed 3 times, 4 if you count another 6 months. i never complained about afghanistan because that was the enemy.
iraq...i had my opinion, but i executed. i did what i had to do. war on terror and all that.
but this? arch, there's a REASON we haven't sent troops over there, or sent troops to fight in georgia.
because it simply would be a waste of american lives. you know it, i know it, our government knows it.
so yes, i WILL complain about going to war we have no business fighting. if that was to happen, that would be a strictly political war, defending ukraine over a region that voted to join russia already.
theres no benefit for us. so yes, if you would support that arch, than you're as much to blame as the government you constantly trash talk.
don't talk to me about what or why i signed up. i've already walked the walk.
man...so many people are about military action, yet so few people actually join the military to be PART of the action.
Can you point out to me where I said, OR insinuated, that the u.s. should send troops to Ukraine?
No, you can't.
I DID say that you signed up - and you should follow orders. Did I say you should go there? No. Not you, or anyone else in our military.
See, here's what you are missing: You AREN'T going there.
For you to insinuate I support sending troops to Ukraine - that's just stupid.
Yup, you've walked the walk. Trust me - you tell us that all the time. It's almost like you think perhaps you are better than others? that's how it seems at times.
I respect the military. I respect the soldiers. I really respect the ex soldiers that don't flaunt the "I served" crap. I know Vietnam vets that prefer to not talk. I have friends that were in afghanistan and Iraq. I have family currently in service, and out of service - and not a single one of them talks like you. Thank you for serving the country. Serving the country.

Ahhh, you wish to turn the tables.
So, in that event, you would want Russian Troops to enter California and protect us from the Mexicans?

Think about that.
please. i don't think i'm better than anybody. how could i? do you see my other thread? i don't want to be in the military anymore. its crazy that i even made E-6 in the military, because i don't enjoy the lifestyle.
you're confusing whatever i'm saying with experience. i only talk about my military experience when the topic is relevant. you don't see me talking about it in the Cosmo's thread, do you? no? ok then.
you seem to have this idea of what soldiers are suppose to act like. sorry if i don't fit your mold. but don't try telling me i'm talking about it like i'm better than people when i'm not. not even close. but if theres a topic thats related to military, such as your homeboy Anarch advocating that we should sent troops over there, then yes, i'm going to say something about it.
this is what you said:
This is going to sound terrible, and I don't mean it that way, but: You weren't drafted, you signed up. That means you signed up to be part of the team, and being part of the team means you do what you are told, doesn't it?
You accept your paycheck, right? You accept the GI bill, right?
combined with this topic, i read that as if we get sent over there i should just take it because it doesn't matter if its right or not. so yes, i went off on you. and there's always a chance we can get over there. if for some reason the UN wants to do a nato mission to take back the area, guess who's going? thats right, the US.
try to keep up.

why are still acting tough?
bro, tell me, what would YOU do to prevent this "cold war" from happening again? if you was in charge?
i mean dawg, you already said you wouldn't do anything cause its not our problem correct? and i agree with that, so whats the problem?
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Well, I wouldn't be making comments like the one from the dummy Clinton above to prevent it. My whole problem was why Hillary is acting tough in her comment. More empty bs in terms to act bold and puff our chests a little.
I think we should all shut up, move on, and forget about it. Let's start worrying if Putin starts actually 'invading' other countries/territories.

now that makes sense. honestly, if russia does in fact try to get a country like estonia, or even tried a full out invasion on ukraine. i would seriously consider military action then. but as of now, you're absolutely right, we probably shouldn't had said anything about it short of "thats terrible what russia is doing" and gone about our business.

And I didn't say that we should send troops there either. I wouldn't be opposed to rebasing our troops in the Middle East and Afghanistan closer to their command structure in Europe. Ukraine seems like a nice spot.
I just found it weird that Arch passive-aggressively went after the guy for discussing his military service.
It would be the equivalent of me wandering to into a thread about his kids' sports teams and saying something like 'It's great that you have kids that play sports. I have friends and family who have kids that play sports. They don't talk about it like you do.'

This is going to sound bad, however, you have a right to complain to your spouse, brother, mother, etc in the comfort of your own home. You do not have the right to complain out in open forums. When you swore an oath to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic, you also swore an oath to obey all orders given by the President of the United States and all officers appointed over you. Trust me, I hate deployments just as much as the next guy. But if me deploying keeps the enemy from knocking on my back door, then I'll do what I must.
If you don't want to fight in a war, you always have the option to not reenlist.
Quote: When you swore an oath to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic, you also swore an oath to obey all orders given by the President of the United States and all officers appointed over you.
Actually, you didn't. You swore an oath to defend the Constitution and to obey ONLY lawful orders given by the president and officers appointed over you.
Obeying an unlawful order is no defense for a soldier. The old 'just following orders' defense just isn't enough to absolve a soldier of wrongdoing.

there's no regulation that says i can't complain on an internet forum. at least not one i'm aware of under the UCMJ.
the only regulation remotely close to that i can find, as you should be aware i'm sure, about using rank or title in the military to influence a politician during campaigning.
and thats all find and dandy, except going to ukraine isn't going to keep the enemy from "knocking on the back door".
i'm glad the president sees this issue like the rest of us: not worth deploying troops over.
and you and others seem to be getting me wrong. if my orders come, i execute. just like all the other times. but i can voice my opinion on the matter all i want. i, however, don't voice my opinion during an actual deployment, because questioning orders gets you killed.
but i'm not deployed.

I completely understand not getting involved in "useless" confrontations, but I think there is much going on behind the scenes that those of us that are the "boots on the ground" so to speak don't see. In matters of expionage, national security, and irregular warfare; there are pieces being strategically placed on the chessboard that may appear to be one thing but end up being something completely different. Moves and counter-moves my friend. For all we know Crimea and the Ukrane may not involve America at all; but the Soviet and American governments have been at odds for decades. You never know what the true intention of the enemy is until he is taking a swing at you. I just hope we are in position to make him miss and then beat him down.
"I hope there is not another Cold War," Clinton said during the question and answer portion of an appearance in Montreal. "Obviously, nobody wants to see that. I think that is primarily up to Putin." - Hillary Clinton
why are still acting tough?
On a lighter note. Movies we're much better when we had an actual enemy to beatup in Hollywood, that arch nemesis.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.
of course.. Because the Staypuff Marshmallow Man was Russian.
You have never really see Ghost Busters until you have seen it in the original Klingon ........
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth
If memory serves.. the word meek in that Biblical context from the original translation doesn't mean weak or timid, it means obedient to one authority... Alexander the Great's horse was referred to using that same word and he was the strongest horse in the land, but he did whatever Alexander commanded..

Your right, when referring to Obama it should be Blessed are the weak.
Quote: "Russia's actions are a problem. They don't pose the number-one national security threat to the United States. I continue to be much more concerned, when it comes to our security, with the prospect of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan," said Obama.
Holy moly, did he actually just say something logical?
its really a joke what putin had done. his currency is down, all the sanctions that the EU and we have put on him is going to hurt him, badly. he's trying to make russia "cold war" strong, while forgetting who lost it in the first place, and why.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
We've only put people in the Russian government on the sanction list. Which really isn't a problem for them since they're not legally allowed to be invested in countries that are not named "Russia." We really can't put any tough sanctions on Russia as it would cripple the EU.
Edit: Well, they did sanction some Russian businesses and people, but Putin's stance is that they deserve it for not being patriotic and followed with his own. It's really just a peeing match that won't even end in a puddle.
how would it cripple the EU? as far as i'm aware, EU mostly exports to russia and doesn't hardly import anything.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I'm not a fan or siding with Putin, but I think he had a fair right to take Crimea given there were more than a few Russian speaking civilians, interest of Russia and the fact the majority of the people voted for it.
Given that being said, last I heard the Moscow stock market was down 10.8%... ouch, and as you said, so has the ruble. Was Crimea even worth it? Things look like they will get worse before it gets better there in Russia...
I thought some people might like this though it is really really long (44 minutes). It is an interview with Paul Craig Roberts on the Crimea subject. Roberts was the assistant secretary to the treasury under Reagan and co-founded Reaganomics. Seems like his thoughts might be right up some alleys around here
Because Russia would match any sanction against them with others. So if the EU tried to put an actual sanction down they'd probably end up with an energy crisis. I believe that Russia supplies the EU with 1/3 of their energy. So it'll continue to be a go at politicians where American Politicians can joke about not traveling to Russia for vacation and Russian Politicians can joke about Tupac being the only thing of worth in the United States.
