Massive Obama travel bill remains secret

China vacations, lavish campaigning add up for taxpayers
There always have been a few voices raising concerns over wildly lavish travel expenses for the Barack Obama, and sometimes his family, while they are not in residence in the people’s house in Washington; the Washington watchdog Judicial Watch, for example, has watched the dollars fly out since 2009.

And WND reported only months ago on estimates that the family’s African vacation tab was no less than $60 million, and possibly as high as $100 million. For what mostly was a vacation.
There have been reports that the Obamas spent more than $7 million for JUST travel for JUST three trips in late 2012 and early 2013, including more than $4 million to go to a Hawaiian vacation at Christmas, more than $2.1 million for a trip to California and back for Barack Obama to “dine with high-dollar fundraiser Jeffrey Katzenberg and appear on the ‘Tonight Show’ with Jay Leno” and nearly another $1.2 million for an “Obama family August vacation” to Martha’s Vineyard.”

Just this week there’s a report that Michelle Obama, her girls and her mom have been staying in a suite costing $8,350 per night in China, where a “well-placed hotel staffer” told the MailOnline that the staff is “fed up.”

“We can’t wait for this to be over, to tell you the truth,” the member of the concierge staff told the newspaper. “The first lady is gracious, and the girls are lovely.” But he said Marian Robinson, Michelle Obama’s mother, has been “barking at the staff.”

But exact totals for the Obamas’ travel expenses are impossible to obtain because the government, and others, simply decline to release the figures. The White House, for example, notes that security costs for the first family are not going to be released. The Secret Service says it’s figures are secret.

And officials with the Democratic National Committee, who are familiar with the costs because they are supposed to reimburse the government for the campaign use of government airplanes, also have declined to respond to WND requests for information

The point is they spend an awful lot of (our) money in a time when most Americans are being forced to be better stewards of their money.

But your use of rule 5 is well played...

2 talking points in one week already? first a vacation, now blaming bush? you're getting ahead of yourself, mill. slow it down or you'll run of topics.

all presidents take vacations, and all of them are expensive. being a president is THE most stressful job, i'm surprised none has commited suicide yet. bush was in 2 wars during his term, i'd be pissed if he DIDN'T take vacations, because that much stress can break a man.

stop complaining.

the first lady of every presidency takes a vacation.

seriously, why is it such an issue?

Just the fact that we're in dire financial straits.

They're constantly threatening to shut down the government which in turn will stop benefits and hurt government employee jobs and we'll have to cut All sorts of programs and we'll all suffer. Blah, blah, blah. But the first family has nor knows any limitations?

It's been said there's no real agenda to this trip to China. That's irresponsible in my book.

Idle Chat. To preserve more space on my Journal Chapters, I must ask that conversations be kept minimal. Long conversations should be held elsewhere. I have a Facebook, Myspace, AIM, Youtube, E-mail, and if need be I will sign onto the IRC. Just ask for one of the sites listed above. ...

The liberal/prog bible!

http://www.vcn.bc.ca/citizens-handbook/rules.html

Wow, the Obama Code,

Rules for Radicals

In 1971, Saul Alinsky wrote an entertaining classic on grassroots organizing titled Rules for Radicals. Those who prefer cooperative tactics describe the book as out-of-date. Nevertheless, it provides some of the best advice on confrontational tactics. Alinsky begins this way: What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be. The Prince was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. Rules for Radicals is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away.
His “rules” derive from many successful campaigns where he helped poor people fighting power and privilege

For Alinsky, organizing is the process of highlighting what is wrong and convincing people they can actually do something about it. The two are linked. If people feel they don’t have the power to change a bad situation, they stop thinking about it.

According to Alinsky, the organizer — especially a paid organizer from outside — must first overcome suspicion and establish credibility. Next the organizer must begin the task of agitating: rubbing resentments, fanning hostilities, and searching out controversy. This is necessary to get people to participate. An organizer has to attack apathy and disturb the prevailing patterns of complacent community life where people have simply come to accept a bad situation. Alinsky would say, “The first step in community organization is community disorganization.”

Through a process combining hope and resentment, the organizer tries to create a “mass army” that brings in as many recruits as possible from local organizations, churches, services groups, labor unions, corner gangs, and individuals.

Alinsky provides a collection of rules to guide the process. But he emphasizes these rules must be translated into real-life tactics that are fluid and responsive to the situation at hand.

If you expect less that's fine with me.

Well you did just ridicule a bunch of people based on a guide that you only understood the reference to. Not trying to pick a fight, but none of those rules only apply to one group of people.

And you gave me a cuckoo sign!

I realize every Democrat doesn't fall under the "radical" label but fully believe the party is being drug that way. Hey, I'm a gun, toting, Bible thumping, angry white guy clinging to my guns and religion according to Obama and today's media. I'm OK with that. I've got thick skin.

I know you're not picking a fight and neither am I.
I suspect you're a good guy and outside of this subject we'd get along fine.

Which brings up another point. If you, I and our fellow Dawg lovers can have sometimes heated, intense conversation and leave with respect for each other what's happened that government can't do the same? They're no smarter, better or important as you or I.

I've met a lot of people on this board at our tailgates - I encourage anyone to stop by one when they are at a game. I tailgate with many folks that I will never, ever agree with politically, however we get along great (we just try to not talk politics ). It is nice to meet people in person, because as you said, most of us would get along just fine.

Great point on why can't our politicians do this.

You do understand that liberals are Americans also right?

And as Americans, aren't we all brothers?

And if you gotta go to war and the guy next to you is a liberal, you know you gotta rely on him right?

And...... oh well, I've made my point..

We are all Americans, and Until we STOP letting politicians and media wing nuts label things and get back to honest government (something I'm not sure we've had in my lifetime) then we'll just continue to have these mindless arguments full of name calling that otherwise serve no purpose.

It's IDIOTIC.

Funny. Both Daddy Bush and Baby Bush took vacations at their homes, or at Camp David. They didn't fly off to China, France, or Africa with a plane load of friends and family. Compared to the lavish obama vacations, they were pretty cheap. The lib argument about the president needing vacations reminds me about them complaining about Bush playing golf, which he quit. Yes, they should have vacations, at Camp David which is already secure and requires minimum travel time and expense, or they can go to their own homes. Has obama even been to Chicago since he was elected?

Every president takes their vacations... personally as I've said elsewhere, they should be limited to like one or two per term that are on the tax payers money. It's abused IMO. Pay for your own vacation, like every other hard working American!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, the Obamas were in Chicago:

Obama takes Michelle out to celebrate 46th birthday with Chicago pals
By Lynn Sweet on January 17, 2010
WASHINGTON--Happy Birthday, First Lady Michelle Obama. She turns 46 today, Sunday. The Obama administration turns one on Wednesday.

On Saturday night, President Obama took her to dinner at Restaurant Nora, one of this city's best known special occasion eateries with a gang of Chicago pals as guests. The Obamas lingered at Nora's for four hours. My spy who happened by chance to be at Nora's told me the presidential party was in the private upstairs room--and the other guests were frisked and "wanded" before being allowed in the restaurant near Dupont Circle. Nora's is well known for serving locally produced organic food. The First Couple arrived at 6:38 p.m. and departed at 10:22 p.m.

Here's the Chicago flavored guest list:

Marian Robinson, the First Lady's mother
Valerie Jarrett, Chicago pal and Senior White House advisor
Eric and Cheryl Whitaker, Chicago pals
Eric Holder, attorney general and his wife, Sharon Malone
Mary Nesbitt and wife Anita Blanchard, Chicago pals
Susan Sher, Chicago pal and the First Lady's chief of staff
Elizabeth Alexander, former Chicagoan (University of Chicago), now at Yale, delivered poem at Inauguration.
Cindy Moelis, Chicago pal and director of the White House Fellows program..
Jocelyn Frye, Mrs. Obama Harvard Law School buddy and Director of Policy and Projects in the First Lady's office

So, once? They flew AF1 to Chicago and stayed less than 4 hours for a party? Could someone please call Waste, Fraud, and Abuse? Otherwise, they vacation at a rented house in Hawaii, Martha's Vineyard, France, China, Africa, etc? Follow that up with 'date nights' in NY or one in Chicago.

Like I said, what's wrong with Camp David or his house in Chicago? Camp David is in a lovely area. It's already secure. They could visit the Cozy Inn and check out the picture of Jackie Kennedy falling off her horse.

I used that word because it was the best descriptor. You tell me, which word best describes his vacations? How about, 'extravagantly living on the taxpayer's dime?'.
