For another I'm not sure a 5'10 195 lb running QB is anything to get excited over.

There was a big quote and I was scrolling down fast...read that and I swear I said that had to be Spirit...I scrolled up and sure enough.

You take any chance you can get to put down some facts that just are not the FACT to benefit your post. I'm like huh...he ain't talking about JM.

btw just so that you know JM was 5'11.75" (I think, I know over 5'11") and weighed in at the Combine around 207??? I know over 200. Just thought it was funny that I knew it was your post...lol

Bleeds, of course that's the ultimate measuring stick. That's why parsing every single thing he says is overkill.

I know you get it... it's just that some peeps around here (not you.. just commenting) like to make final conclusions about how we did in the offseason before any of these guys actually play for us! It's crazy!

Maybe Farmer is doing awesome... maybe he is doing a terrible job. I don't really know but I'll have a much better idea come September.

Indeed, Mr. Farmer. We hope you're the guy that can identify the guys we need for the many roles for which we need players.

If you can do that the next two drafts, and we see playoff-quality progress, then you'll go far, and so will the Browns.

But they fire GM's after barely two-years here, and head coaches after one-year.

So pick well this draft.

here is my thinking...

Mr Farmer has put himself into a precarious position with regards to the top 3 QB's.

If he doesn't pick the BPA with who we have available when we draft... he will get torn to shreds in three years. One year if they are really bad.

Partially because he picked the wrong guy and the tinder for the fire.... everyone will say... "if he went to his pro day... he would have known better"

some things you just gotta do to save face later no matter how certain you are. Hopefully, we avoid this whole problem and he gets the BPA. I think he may be a little too cocky as a rookie GM and his inexperience is showing.

Mr. Farmer is just like every other GM in the league. Substitute any name in what you wrote and it's the same thing. it's like that every year for every GM..

Farmer is creating the biggest smoke screen in years for a QB at 4, let alone who? (at 4) I really believe they have a QB targeted and hope he is there.

Here's the funny thing,, every year its the same thing to one degree or another and every year there is a heavy discussion about what the GM will do or won't do and it doesn't even matter who the GM is..LOL Cracks me up.

Supposedly they only test for it between certain dates. That's what I've been told by NFL players.

No.

How the hell would a team be able to do that?

On top of that, the tests aren't really 'random', either. You more or less know the dates of when your name may be called.

AND you get to fail one before any punishment occurs (recreational, anyway).

You have to be a complete idiot to fail an NFL drug test. That's what irks me when guys like Haden and Gordon went down. I couldn't care less if they're doing drugs...it's the stupidity of getting caught in a system designed for the player's benefit that gets me.

On top of the date thing, its really easy to pass a drug test for people that use.

There is synthetic urine and reliable methods for diluting via fluid intake. Their agents and our front office should look into it.

If you have diluted urine it's counted as an infraction.

Edit: It's not a suspendable infraction, but it's some sort of infraction that could lead to a suspension.

They're way past that stage in terms of beating a drug test.

$30-40 gets you a clean test without having to tamper with the sample itself.

How the hell do they do that?, Simple. I have drug tests done on my employees every year. I have people working in 23 different states.. They NEVER know when it's coming, they are sent a Chain of Custody form via email and they then have 24 hours to report to the collection location listed on the CoC form.

Results are back to me within a few days.

If the NFL were smart, they'd not tell them what day the tests are. They wouldn't give them any notice,, here's your CoC form, go take the test. Simple..

If they have a date range, then don't tell them when the test is going to take place within that range. However, when I use the Hair Analysis test, (as opposed to urine sample) the results go back I think it's a year. (might be 9 months, gotta check, only have one client that requires the hair test)

So you see, it's not as easy as you think to fool those tests.

That's how the hell you do it..

Can they fool it? Listen, devise a test and someone will figure it out, then we'll figure out a way to prevent them from beating it. and so on and so on.

Hairs go back 9 months to a year.

That said, the NFL doesn't want to find everyone who does it, just enough to make it look like they're doing something.

There are many ways to fake a urine test. Any head shop sells "treatments" that mask marijuana in the urine. A friend of mine was in the navy and sold little Elmers Glue containers of clean urine for 20 bucks that could be tucked right in your shorts. He made quite a bit of spending money that way.

I'm sure your company operates very similarly to the NFL.

If Josh Gordon is vacationing in, say, Barbados, during the offseason, you think the NFL is going to summons him to take a urine test? How does that work?

That would be effective if their intent was catching them dirty.

But that's not their aim.

Hair tests are very difficult to skirt around.

But the NFL doesn't collect hair samples, because, again, they're not looking to catch these guys. They give them every advantage possible to avoid getting caught.

How did he get around the Temp test with the bottled urine? I mean, one of the first things a good collection lab does is test the temp. if it's not at or close to body temp, you fail the drug screen.

It just so happens that the company I use to test samples has a facility in Barbados.. So yeah, I'd do it there as well..

So I take it that the answer to all of this by your thinking and others is that the NFL doesn't want to know about drug use so they make it easy for people to test clean? OK,, While I think that would be very wrong of them, I suppose it could be.

In order for drug testing to be effective, you gotta have the employer (in this case, the NFL and the teams) want to know who's using drugs and who isn't.

If they don't want to know,, Then testing is just a sham..

that would be a big story.. I have to believe it would have been reported. Maybe it has I missed it.. Dunno.

But I think an investigative reporter would dig that out if true..

Do those still exist. There is no journalism today, just propaganda.

The NFL is a union, I'm sure they help set the rules for testing, or have some say so. Guys cheat all the time , even in random tests. I know guys that have pouches that warm the urine, and pass them all the time. They have to carry them around all the time though.

I don't believe the culture of the business for NFL players is the same as "normal" employment. I'm sure they are privy to about when the tests are coming, except for maybe a player such as Gordon. I have a friend that works a union job, SEIU, and he says that they are told that tests will be given between certain dates. I don't believe that is the case most places, but they are out there.

Once again - your company in no way, shape or form resembles the NFL, and doesn't really qualify as a relevant example.

Beyond that...you still haven't answered the question as to how would it even be logistically possble.

"Oh, drug test? I'm in Munich. I'll be back right around OTA's."

The only way it works is if the NFLPA allows the request to hunt players down across the globe or force them to be local at points during the offseason, which is as likely as the request in the first place.

You can conceivably fail a drug test for recreational narcotics every single season and never suffer a single ramification.

It's not possible. It's blatant reality.

Why do you say that. I'm an employer just like the Cleveland Browns are an employer.

In the sense that I employee people and they sign a contract that states that I'm allowed to spring a Drug test on them, I'm exactly like the Browns.

No, my guys don't play football. No, I don't pay my guys millions each year but I pay them.

Quote:

Yes I did. I told you that the company I use has a collection facility in Barbados and I bet they have one in Germany as well.. Although I haven't checked. You know, they do do drug testing in Germany and many many other countries. There are collection facilities all over the world. If someone wants them tested in Milan, I bet it can happen.

But put that aside, just to show you how weak your argument is, if I know that Gordon is sitting on a beach in Puerto Rico, I don't tell him anything about a test until he lands back home. Then I send the email with the CoC attached then I follow that up with a phone call to him or his agent to let him know it's there and that he has 24 hours to comply.

it's really simple. You just don't want it to be simple.

Quote:

I think I've just explained that one as well.. wait until they get home and spring it on them.

Quote:

Not if you do it right.. the exceptions are PED's or some other designer drugs that haven't had a test developed to detect them.

Now, all my arguments assume the NFL WANTS TO CATCH the users. of course, if they don't want to, then throw everything I said out the window. It's just like I wrote earlier in this thread, the employer needs to want to know who is doing what. If they don't, then they are part of the problem.

But it's not in their best interest to just pay lip service to this problem. If it ever got out that the NFL condoned or was slack in the enforcement of their drug policies, they'd end up in front of congress again and this time, they might have some serious implications to deal with.

As for Carl Monday, you were just kidding right?

A player in Stage 2 may, or may not, be tested up to 10 times as set forth by the person monitoring his case/treatment.

He has to submit to testing, and failing to do so counts as a failed test.

I am sure that a player in stage 2 may mention to the person monitoring his case and testing that he is going to be on vacation at a certain time, but if not, and he is required f=to take an unscheduled test, if he is in a place where he can give a sample, then he has to. If he doesn't, he can be moved to stage 3, and suspended for the year. The player doesn't have an ability to say "No" to a test in stage 2. If he is told to take a test, he has to take that test. If he is away, then the tester may have to decide whether to have him take a test at a foreign lab, or wait till he returns home, but the player can't just say "Sorry, see you when OTAs start". That would be a failed test. If his case handler tells him to go give a test sample to a Munich laboratory, then that's what he has to do. If he doesn't, then he fails. It is in the CBA.

Considering there's been three cases of people being suspended for a year (the punishment in stage 2), I would say that it might be helping them.

Edit: "Each year before the start of training camp every player on the roster is tested for both performance enhancing drugs and street drugs. For guys not in the NFL drug program, this surprisingly is the only time the entire year that an NFL player is tested for illegal street drugs."

Which brings us back to the point that they aren't "diligently" trying to catch all drug offenders.

There is a point that you would be biting off your nose to spite your own face. Making it appear you're being tough on drugs serves the purpose from a PR standpoint.

But if you are "really tough on drugs", you may very well hurt your product. I'm sure there is a balancing act in play there.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
