It's not that I don't value intelligence, because I do. But if you've read a question off the Wonderlic, you'll realize that it has nothing to do with football intelligence. In reality it doesn't even measure fluid or crystallized intelligence, which are probably the two most important types of intelligence for football. I really don't put much stock into intelligence, because the Wonderlic says that the average NFL player is dumber than a librarian.

Look, it is a test, a fairly simple test that a normal athlete will score in the range of 20 to 30. He earned a 4.

A 4 means that he complete dismissed the test. It will not effect my draft position.. he rationalizes later.

So when he is challenged, he folds, gives up, has no stick-to-it-ness...

That is what a 4 means.

Defense... nah... just give me a man to cover....

Keep in mind he regretted that decision to blow off the test. Also his age in making that decision. Kids treated like adults sometimes make stupid decisions.

As noted - I don't think he is dumb dumb just a little longer in adapting to a system. He did have injuries as you noted that does retard any players growth. then he had to learn two different systems. Which as noted is not his prowess. So he has not lived up to his draft status this is a FACT. But he might be better than that fact shows???

Anyway, I don't see him becoming a Brown. The Cowboys have several needs and probably want an impact pick for the overall #6 CB. Not the mid-late round pick that has been mentioned here. So I doubt we give one of our impact picks away.

jmho...I can see the Jets making this move? They wanted Revis and Cromartie?

Well he did only answer like 15 questions. Though, you should do better than 1/4th of your answers correct. Well, unless by "answering questions" he mean that he just randomly picked an answer. It is a multiple choice test, I think. Either way it had no affect on his draft status. The Cowboys traded up for him at ~the same spot he was predicted to be picked. So either the Cowboys haven't found out the correlation between the Wonderlic and how good a player is (Which is doubtful as Tom Landry was the one who brought the Wonderlic to the NFL) or it doesn't mean anything and shouldn't be taken as a serious test for NFL players.

....or, it means that Tom Landry is long dead and the guy that fired Landry almost immediately after buying the team never bought into or understood what his former coach knew.

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

The guy has been a complete bust. He is the fourth cb on a team that doesn't have good corners. He is a team w/a sucky defense and they still want to trade him for a freaking mid-round pick. He was a high first round draft choice who has fallen out of favor rapidly.

And you want to concentrate on how the Wonderlic test is not fair?

Seriously?

Oh, btw .................no one plays straight man coverage all time, guys. <<sigh>>

I'm not saying that the Wonderlic is unfair. I'm saying that it's useless to judge a player on that, especially in terms of intelligence. I'm saying that we shouldn't be talking about it.

I completely agree with you that he did not look good at all last year and looked "promising" (Basically a code word for "decent") under Rob's defense.

Watching gthis guy:

this guy is not a shut down corner by any stretch.

He is not that fast (4.5), not that big (5-11, 185 ).

He is not quick out of the breaks which is a problem because he lets the receiver get too close to him before reacting.

He will get beat deep and seems to lose his concentration. I would give a 6th but not much more, also he is not that consistent in run support, over runs and gets caught up in traffic

I just don't think we are communicating well. I am NOT saying the Wonderlic is all that important. I AM saying the guy has been a complete disaster as a pro. I will add that he is either really stupid or he blew off the test. Either way, when you combine that w/his crappy performance [the most important factor] you get a guy who is probably going to continue to fail.

Seriously, if he really did blow off the test.................do you realize that is even DUMBER than actually scoring low because you are dumb? I hate to sound so rude, but man, how smart do you have to be to know that the NFL is using that test as part of the evaluation process [not saying whether it has merit or not] and that you should probably try your best?

LOL.............it's mind boggling to think about.

Think about any job interview in any profession. We all know that there are questions asked that we don't agree with, but we are wise enough to give them the answers they want to hear. Who the heck is stupid enough to not care about giving the correct answer?

For the sake of this thread, I'll drop this.

I think it'd make good sense to either trade a 5th for him or swap 3rds. He has a lot of potential and I just think Monte Kiffin's defense just made everyone play horrible.

Hmm...good post. I might go as high as a fifth for him. When I saw him at LSU, i thought he did an excellent job of press coverage. He had an excellent punch and I thought he was always able to stay with his man. Seemed like he had better reaction than anticipation, and did a lot better at following the receiver's movements than ever getting a glimpse at where the QB might be looking.

That said, I wonder if Zona goes after him. He did his best work alongside Patrick Peterson, who's a hell of a corner and a hell of a teammate.

Why do we need a corner... didn't Banner draft us one last year? Leon McFadden is our savior at the position isn't he?

Getting Claiborne for a low pick would be a solid subplot for our "America's Game: The 2014 Cleveland Browns" documentary..
