From cbssports today:

But what about drafting TWO quarterbacks?

Browns coach Mike Pettine told reporters at the owners' meetings, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer, that the team actually could take a pair of signal-callers this year.

Best idea I have heard in months!

I vow to smack everyone who says the importance of the running back is diminished in the NFL today.

You say that, yet you come into a thread that you know is going to contain just that kind of rhetoric from our new coach. Not sure what else you would expect our new coach to be saying this time of year. We all want to win

..... And we are commenting on what we think and perceive about such comments.

It's what people do on message boards.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I won't discount the importance of wins, but "being popular" carries its' own importance to the PR of a team and therefore to its' financial bottom line...

You will only remain popular if you win.

Also remember if he said nothing we would read complaints about him not informing us enough. When he states something its - we've heard this before I will ignore it. Damned if you don't and Damned if you do...lol

But without a doubt - We can all use the CURE ALL

Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off!

Given our history since 1999, I don't think anyone who comes in here can win, without wins.

I'm not knocking anything he said, but saying things and doing things aren't quite the same. I can see why many want evidence of change rather than simply the lip service of change.

So I have nothing against anything he said. I just need something more than that "warm fuzzy feeling" to convince me.

Count me among those people.
I'm done with the promise of Hope with this franchise; I want results. Bottom line.

No moral victories, no "we sucked, but played better than the year before", no "6 wins, w00t!".
If that makes me a bandwagoner - fine, I'm completely ok with that.... I don't care what labels others put on me.

Browns is the Browns

A good draft and that bandwagon will be loaded.

I hear ya, but can we wait until he dies to bury him?

I believe that was overwhelmingly implied.

Nobody is burying anyone because the team hasn't taken the field. We have to see what he brings to the table before we know anything.

Agreed. Bring in Bridgewater first. That's the guy I like.

And then.........

Pick up Murray may be 4th round if he's there. Other guys to look for might be McCarron or Mettenberger. Any one of those three around 4th round would be a sweet pickup. Those three are SEC QBs, winning QBs, played good competition over and over, and played around good players over and over. Might not be the most talented, but I do think they have a good chance to be successful backups in the NFL.

If not, there's other guys later in the draft. Boyd, Fales, that guy from Wyoming.

But picking up a later round guy is nice insurance. Clearly, the 1st round pick will be picked as our starter, and the later guy will be a backup, learning, and improving

What are the rules regarding 4 or 5 year rookie contracts now?

If we can only sign 2 drafted QB to 4 year deals, then I would pass on a 2nd QB this year, and draft another QB next year. That way there would be an overlap, where we wouldn't have to replace o re-sign 2 QB in the same year.

I think it's slotted, around the mid twenties I think it drops down to a 4 year deal...

We signed Mingo to a 4 year deal though.

I believe there's a team option for the first rounders.

Yeah, I thought it was Mingo to 4, with a 5th year team option (big bucks).

But solid point, I just like those three guys a lot, and if one of them manages to fall into our laps in rounds 4 or 5, it's hard to think about not picking one of them.......... Even just as insurance. We can always trade them eventually, and if our 1st rounder busts, having someone like Metenberger, Murray, or McCarron waiting to give it a go aint a bad thing. All three of those guys have more talent than Kirk Cousins did coming out of college.

Yep I do say that, I'm allowed. I really honestly dont expect our new coach to say anything, I know what he's gonna say and why he says it, been thru this many more time than I want to count, I'm just saying feel good stories are nice but in the end the only thing that matters in whats done on that field,

Just my opinon, my .02
