Jackson's agent hasn't even talked with the Redskins yet.
Agent, Redskins to talk soon about DeSean Jackson Posted by Mike Florio on April 1, 2014, 3:10 PM EDT Yes, agent Joel Segal has been in Washington on Tuesday. No, he wasn’t there specifically to meet with the Redskins. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Segal served as a guest lecturer on Tuesday at George Washington University. He made the commitment at least a month ago, long before the possibility of Jackson looking for a new job became anything close to a reality. Segal has yet to negotiate with the Redskins, but we’re told talks likely will commence soon. They’ll happen either in person or by phone. Jackson met with the Redskins for roughly three hours on Tuesday. He has left the building, but it’s too early to know whether he’ll be signing or not signing with the team. web page

crazy that we are even in this thing. yes, I would be concerned taking him on (his contract dispute year where he pouted on the field the most concerning aspect), but just the vision of him on the field with Gordon & Cameron and Tate is fantastic.
Trade down a few slots, draft Gilbert to pair with Haden and we are in business (or get Teddy).
But, as others noted, I think we are the leverage here, not the team he wants to sign with.

In the end, I don't even think we are in on this. None of the well-known insiders have even mentioned us as a possibility.

Ya'll really believe we have a shot at signing a pro-bowl caliber WR sought after by successful teams? Where do you think you are? Seattle? Denver? Foxborough? This is Cleveland, remember?

Yeah, successful teams like Washington (3-13), Raiders (4-12), and Bills (6-10)!
(Just a reminder; two of those teams mentioned above among the most dysfunctional in the league and the other one of the least successful.)

49ers, for one, a very successful team...is also in the market for Jackson. Not to mention other successful teams who haven't made it into the rumor mill media.

the 49ers have reportedly said that they wouldn't consider him unless reported contract demands are less. So I don't think that at this point, they are in the mix.

I don't know.
He can be 5 hours from where he grew up, have a very realistic shot at a Super Bowl.
I don't buy the 'hometown discount' for the most part. But if we're talking the difference between 9 mil a year and if SF might offer him 7mil a year, then San Fran might still be in play.

I would love to have him on the Browns, but I'd be lying if I said I think there's a good chance it happens. I agree with those that think this may be his camp trying to get a few extra guaranteed bucks out of this...
I'm more than OK finding a WR in the draft. We've already got Gordon, we signed Hawk, we have another set of hands in Cameron, I don't think we absolutely need Jackson, but it would be a nice piece to add.. I've pretty much given up hope on Little. I understand him still being around, but I just don't feel like he will turn this corner. I think you could put him on a better team with a better quarterback and still wonder where he is most of the game...
Things just add up more for Jackson being in Washington. They've got RG3, we have some question marks at QB. He also will have 2 games next year against Philadelphia if he holds any type of grudge from being let go.
If he wants a fresh start, and a chance to come in low and under the radar, it'd be best for him to be in Cleveland, but I have a feeling that's not what he wants.

Since when is Long Beach five hours from San Francisco? That's six hours in the best possible conditions.
In reality it's like an hour flight. If Jackson would make his family drive with all his millions, then he really is a tool.

Snyder isn't scared to open the checkbook either.
He should be a Redskin soon.

Yeah. Our 0 - 0 Super Bowl record and 1 playoff game in 20 years, along with our stability with owners, front office, coaches and QB's would definitely make me want to sign with the Browns.
I'd like to see us sign Jackson but the odds are not in our favor.

405 miles. 8 hour drive in questionable traffic conditions and more like a 1 1/2 hour flight counting minimal time on the tarmac, but doesn't include transportation time to and from the airports, baggage claim, security checks and boarding time.
Is that better?
I drive 5 hours to see my family. Just call me tool.

Of course I've had my say about Desean but I would proceed cautiously if I was Ray Farmer. This team is still fragile. There isn't a great deal of entrenched veteran leadership on the Browns' roster. They have to be sure, they can't afford to act rashly.
As vehement as I was about him being slandered, if it's true that he flashed gang signs on the field I can't excuse that and I don't want it associated with my Browns.
If the Browns can do their due diligence and be assured these concerns aren't going to set the team back, make the deal, otherwise focus on the draft.

OK ..... 4 days ago the Redskins had $3.3 million in cap space left. They still have to sign free agents. I would think that a team with $30 million in cap space would be able to craft a far more attractive deal ........ if we really want him.

Yes. Why can't we be one of the teams that takes on guys like this?
Hopefully we realize that a guy like this is the last guy we need on a young and impressionable team that already has questionable character.
I will lose a lot of faith in our FO if we really try to sign this guy.

There are bigger problems. That was evident last year. The last thing we need is another low-character guy.
I don't want a guy who is missing and late for meetings, arguing w/coaches, pouting, etc anywhere near our young guys.

Say DJ signs elsewhere, I feel pretty sure Sammy Watkins is our pick at #4 after seeing them pursue DJ with a big offer. If we do sign him is Sammy still the pick at #4?

if we somehow landed DJ, there's no way we grab watkins at 4. imo, that would be a wasted pick. we would have a 2 elite WR, a good slot guy, and rotating 4ths(little and benji).
the 4th pick would definitely have to be a QB. we don't need a OT, not THAT badly, and G can be found later.

I hope not, but the only time the Browns haven't let me down was when they drafted Joe T. Of course, they blew it when they had to trade up for BQ.

Its already been said but I'll say it again, its likely that the Brown's are being used by an agent to gain leverage against another team. Revis being the most obvious example. I think the front office will take a look but won't get caught up with this latest ploy. The draft is coming and that's where the Browns' need to make their statement. My two cents says that's what they'll do.

I don't like his attitude, but I'd love to have his talent on the field opposite Gordon.
Two things.... To those who all off-season and every off-season say that players don't want to come to Cleveland below is what I feel is the typical mental priority list for just about every FA ever. Not all of them, mind you, but the vast majority. Play with the order if you like but I bet when athlete and agent sit down to look at offers, this is how they're parsing them. 1. guaranteed money 2. early contract money 3. easily achievable incentive money 4. potential I will start 5. difficult to achieve incentive money 6. total contract dollars if I stay healthy and likelihood the team will keep me if I play well 7. something else about money 8. yet another consideration about money 9. some other funny ass trip about about money 10 to infinity... anything and everything else
Having said that, I for one don't want DeJax on this team. I have a bunch of reasons for that.

DeSean Jackson signs with Washington, ending speculation involving the Cleveland Browns on April 02, 2014 at 1:21 AM, updated April 02, 2014 at 2:31 AM BEREA, Ohio -- April Fools Day ended with news everyone in Cleveland could believe. Free agent wide receiver DeSean Jackson won't be joining the Browns. The Pro Bowl receiver agreed to a three-year deal with the Washington Redskins, according to reports from ESPN and the NFL Network. It ended a bizarre day -- it was April 1, after all -- in which the Browns were said to have made a strong push for Jackson, according to a Washington D.C. television station. The outlet also reported the San Francisco 49ers were very interested if the Redskins could not close a deal. ESPN's John Keim reported the Browns had "serious interest," in the talented receiver, who the Philadelphia Eagles released a week ago due to reported off-the-field issues and alleged gang ties. The Browns certainly are looking to upgrade their receiving corps and pairing Jackson with All Pro Josh Gordon would have given the club a dangerous combination. But it's unclear whether the Browns were legitimate suitors or that word was leaked to pressure the Redskins. Earlier in the day, ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed the Niners' interest, but never mentioned the Browns. The Browns are likely to pursue a receiver in the upcoming draft. Jackson, meanwhile, will remain in the NFC East and face his former team twice a season. He finished ninth in NFL receiving yards (1,332) last year while catching 82 passes. Jackson's spokesperson, Denise White, told USA Today on Friday that six teams called about the receiver within 30 minutes after his release, but didn't name the clubs. web page

Amen man.
Don't want Jax anywhere near Gordon.
One obvious thing is going on here. Actually 3.
We're beating down every path on every QB.
We're wanting to replace Little at WR.
Revis.
PLEASE give me Bridgewater or Manziel with WR Mathews and CB Fuller.
I'll settle for Watkins and Carr if we love the dude, and Fuller.
Add Borland ILB and an OG in 3 and go to work.
I just don't see Carr being there at 26.
MY confidence in these guys is high right now because it seems we have identified our problems. QB, WR, RB, ILB, CB.
I almost HOPE Carr goes to Minny at 8 and Manziel starts slipping.
4-Watkins 26-Manziel ?=Fuller (Move UP from 35 to get this dude. You can have ALL of our 5th thru 7th round picks AND our 2nd 4th rounder LOL) 3rd-Borland 3rd-OG 4th-WHOEVER and go to work

Not really sure we pursued DJ with a big offer or any offer for that matter. At least I hadn't read that anywhere, I could be wrong. OR It could have just been talk about town.

The snowball effect of this whole thing could potentially benefit the Browns organization. As the Raiders have cut guard Mike Brisiel. Here's the link: web page Maybe he's an option for the holes in our Oline.

Talent wise, I don't think anyone would say he's not worth that contract. He clearly is. But from what he's supposed to have been in the locker room, I'm not thinking I'd throw that kind of money at him. Just see a few red flags.
I have to believe that a receiver with his talent doesn't get tossed out with the garbage in Philly if there wasn't a problem brewing either between him and teammates or him and the coach or him and the FO because he wasn't happy with his deal any longer.
I think there is just more to the story.
