So Monday night after a few beers I got into the usual back and forth banter with the bar's resident Steeler fan. This time it had a little more edge to it as others got on him and his "pops" were taking their toll.

The argument was that the Browns were going to have a better record than his Stillers. It got to the point where he said, "I bet you $100 the Stillers have a better record than your clowns." Before I could think about it, I took the bet. Another Browns fan took the bet too. A mutual third party friend recorded the bet into his phone and now I wonder if I would have taken that bet today. I don't normally bet on the Browns, but I still think this isn't as insane as I first thought the morning after.

What do you think? Did I just burn $100?

We'll eventually finish a season with a better record than the team from that state. Why not this next year?

If you judge this based on how we and they were playing to finish the season and expect a carryover, then you're in trouble. But, we will have a different QB under center.

I would suggest putting $10 away per month to be ready. But if we win more then them, you'll have $200 ready to spend.

the odds are definitely in his favor, but screw odds. let's see what happens in the draft and let the season play out. you will be rooting for Pitt to lose and Cleveland to win all season long, so no big change there.

As soon as the draft is over, Vegas will release the over/under number for each team and they are usually right on. You will pretty much know then if your screwed.

Well consider it about $200 cheaper than spending money on Directv to watch a full miserable season of Browns play.

In football you never bet against the team with the better QB.

No matter what the Browns do in the draft, Pitt will have a better QB than the Browns.

And they have a better coach. Until those two positions flip, we will be looking up at them.

Don't Drink and Bet.

Set that $100 aside now so you won't miss it later.

You're most likely out 100$, but steeler fans can't be too happy about the progression of this roster.

It's not good. I'm not saying we're there yet, but we've closed the gap, roster wise. Still needs to be done on the field though.

Well...this went pretty much how I figured.

I did already think of the "put $10 away here and there and I won't miss it." I don't know. Maybe it was the Taco Bell from the other night, but my gut says this year it starts to change. I'm not saying we are going to playoffs. I'm just saying I feel like this team just might get one more game than the trolls in west PA.

There are so many unknowns and if there was ever a chance in the last gazillion years, this one is as good as any.

Its actaully only $100. The other guy took the Steeler fans bet too and he is much more a realist than I am. I was surprised he bet the Browns, but he did.

A lot of people aren't logical when they are emotionally invested in something.

Let's put it this way. If you polled every fan base in the NFL what their favorite team's record would be, the average would undoubtedly come out to double digit wins.

If you think your team figures to be a 7-9 to 9-7ish team, it's probably more likely to be a 5-6 win team. Another way to look at it is every year Vegas releases its over/under for season wins, and every year us Browns fans complain about 5.5 or whatever being way too low and this is the year it will turn around. And every year they finish under.

Long story short: you made a bad bet. I hope you win it.

I meant it costs about $300 to get Sunday Ticket, so if you're only out $100 for the season, you've come out ahead.

I remember cancelling my Ticket subscription a few years ago after a particularly bad season, and the conversation went something like:

Me: "I'd like to cancel NFL Ticket"
Them: "What's the reason for your cancellation?"
Me: "I'm a Browns Fan ..."
Them: (laughing) "Ah, I understand sir. You know we could reduce the cost of NFL ticket by half if you would still be interested in keeping the package?"
Me: "If you can offer a deal where you pay me $20 per game to actually watch, then I'll consider."

I may be alone in my optimism.. but I think you just won $100. The whole bet comes down to the the Browns QB.. I'd take the rest of our roster over their's every day.

Other than beer, I think this had a lot to do with my snap call on the bet. That and Roethlisberger isn't getting any younger.

when they found out I was a browns fan they offered to pay me $10 a game if I watched just for advertising reasons

The argument was that the Browns were going to have a better record than his Stillers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You didn't mention that your bet was for the 2014 season???

If it went like..........

Him: "The Stools will have a better record".
You: "The Browns will":
Him: "The Stools will".
You: Etc, Etc.

.........then imo your good as there should be a year in the future that we will.

Then again, us having a better record could be in 2014.

Imo we ain't that far off and movin in a positive direction with a better/younger roster and imo a solid FO and coaching staff.

My answer to that would have been, "If you can offer a deal to cut the price in half then why in the hell do you charge twice as much to being with?!"

I don't know man.....my thinking is it is a 50/50 deal at this point.

Look at it this way....$100 isn't all that much money. Come week 11 you'll know if you have it, have lost it, or need to start sticking $20 a week in to a sock to cover a possible loss.

The good news is if you follow my map and it is close and you do win, you'll have $200 to go have a real steak dinner at a real steak house with your honey.

I don't care where you are at in life, sticking aside $20 a week isn't all that hard.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

the answer is more obvious than you might think. those paying full price are helping subsidize those paying half price. DirecTv can make most people marginally happy by giving in to the people who are only happy when they get a deal by over charging those who won't fight it. I don't like it, but it's the American way these days.

Let me guess, not only is this steelers fan not from Pennsylvania, they have never been to pittsburgh. That seems to be the trend with steelers fans in Ohio.

Actually he is from Pittsburgh so I don't hold his mental condition against him. If he were one of these native northern Ohio Stiller fans, I wouldn't even acknowledge his existence.

And somewhere up in their attic, there's a Bernie Kosar jersey...

I love when they rattle off excuses as to why they are a steeler fan, about who their parents rooted for, or they have some half cousin who's also their sister in western PA....

Those people are losers.

It actually kinda makes me feel better that the same thing goes on here in Chicago. There are tons of people who aren't from Wisconsin that claim the Packers as their team... And it's not like the Bears are horrible. They're pretty consistent, and seem to make the playoffs every few years.

You want to see how cocky this Steeler fan is? Call him this weekend and say, "Hey, you know what. Now that I'm sober and not in the heat of the moment I've been reconsidering our bet... Wanna double it?"
