Kind of surprised by Miami. They're clearly not as good as last year. Yet they won't have home court advantage versus Indiana or the top 4 seeds in the west because they've benched guys.

Unless Indiana turns it on, it's not going to matter. I agree that Miami doesn't look as strong as previous years but they have been known to turn it on and their road to the finals could possible be.. Charlotte, Washington, a struggling Pacers team... does it get any easier than that?

I'm really disappointed to hear this latest stuff with Irving. Cryptic tweets, a bad attitude toward the media, being defensive everywhere but on the court...
Remember when we drafted him and the talk was about how his dad played such a big role in his life? Where's dad now? Does he not care about what has gone on this year?
Kyrie looks bad. The national media, and espn, and everyone else make it out to be like Kyrie is just a great player surrounded by crap, but if you've actually watched this team, you know that's not true.
Kyrie is as much of the problem as anyone else. Combine that with injury issues, and off the court stuff, and it's laughable how it gets ignored outside of Cleveland.

I would at this point. Trade Irving, keep Waiters, everyone else is expendable. Keep Brown as coach until you find the right guy. If he's available this year, fine, if not, you might as well wait, since you're paying MB anyway.
They made a nice run, but it wasn't good enough. Lebron is not coming back. If they try to keep this group together another year, how on earth do they sell this to season ticket holders as well as anyone else who buys tickets?
I think Dan Gilbert is a smart guy, and I'm still in his corner, but the job his people have done the last few years has been terrible. This team does not reflect well on the city. Not like the Indians do, and not like the Browns seem to be closer to doing...
I really hope David Griffn or whoever is running the roster next year opts to go in a direction where they get tougher players in here.
I don't really think the Bulls are going to do much in the playoffs, but to have what they have right now, wouldn't be asking for all that much, would it? They don't have any big time free agents on their team, or top 3-5 lotto picks (other than Dunleavy). The only big FA signing they have on that roster is Boozer, and he was pretty far back on the list of FA in 2010.
I just think it's ridiculous that Cleveland has had to put up with this crap for 4 seasons now. Unacceptable.

I agree, of kyrie and waiters, I keep waiters. I think waiters is becoming a lot more mature and you can see in irving's absence, he and jack really stepped up and carried the team. I also agree and have said for years that these Cavs teams are cream puffs. We need some nasty people on the team..that don't care if other guys get upset they are physical. Thats why I would have loved to try to trade kyrie for cousins...he'd be a good start. I'm still not sold on Brown as the coach who is going to get us where we need to go..maybe he's the guy that comes in and gets the team some sort of foundation. but i think when you get into playoffs, you need a strategist, a good motivator and x's and o's kinda guy, and I don't think MB is that guy.

I liked Waiters all along, so I feel somewhat vindicated.  Irving worries me. I would definitely make inquiries as to his trade value. I think that I would look at what Thompson would bring as well. Given that we owe Varejao $4 million no matter what, I would be inclined to bring him back at what really works out to be about $5.8 million above what we have to pay him whether he stays or not. Thompson would also be a player I would look to move. From what I can tell, we have the following contracts for next year: Varejao: $9.8 million, $4 million guaranteed. Deng: Free Agent. Bennett: $5.6 million Dellavedova: Free Agent Gee: $3 million (IIRC, not guaranteed) Hawes: Free Agent. I would try to re-sign him. Hopson: $2.45 million. 2014-15 salary not guaranteed. Irving: $7.5 million team option. Jack: $6.3 million Karasev: $1.5 million Miles: Free Agent. Thompson: $5.4 million team option. Waiters: $4 Zeller: $1.7 million So, we have, guaranteed for next season: Varejao: $4 million ($9.8 if we bring him back) Bennett: $5.6 million Jack: $6.3 million Karasev: $1.5 million Waiters: $4 million Zeller: $1.7 million Plus team options of: Irving: $7.5 million Thompson: $5.4 million I would consider Hawes a priority free agent. I think that's all correct. Whoever the GM is this off-season has his work cut out for him.

I like Waiters, but I just see value with hanging onto him. I think Irving's value won't get any higher. Plus there are already whispers of KI wanting out. I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger if I saw the right deal.
Waiters has a ways to go in his maturity though. I think he's a little tougher than Irving, and it seems like he may actually want to stick around.
I'm not saying build around Waiters, but he would be my starting point. They don't have a player on this roster to build around. Irving will never be the best player on a championship team. Never.

I'd be absolutely stunned if they won the title. It would have to set up perfectly for them. They'd also have to avoid San Antonio in the Finals. I guarantee if Miami faces the Spurs in the NBA Finals they will lose. Spurs are just as great as they've ever been if not better, Miami looks worse and game 7 would be played in San Antonio.

There are a lot of good PGs out there, and the team looked pretty good when Jack and Dellavadova ran the show. They looked pretty good. I would really like to see them find a PG in the draft...
I think that the biggest needs are at SF (TJ Warren in the 1st) and PG (Semaj Christon, Nick Johnson, Jahii Carson (personal favorite), Russ Smith, Shabazz Napier)
And scorers that can defend...
TJ Warren still fits that bill big time, and Russ Smith and Shabazz Napier both defend really well...and Carson is a tough player as well...
After the draft...guys like Keith Appling and Aaron Craft would also fit the bill...and could challenge Dellavadova for roster spots.

I don't think the Heat will win it all either once they get to the Finals, just pointing out that there road to the Finals could be historically easy... which might serve to hurt them if they coast through the eastern conference.

considering they need to take it easy with Ray Allen and Dwayne Wade, it very well may help them that they can coast through.

But as someone said you would have to trade irving to a large market. If los angeles wins the lottery that trade idea might not be that unrealistic.

If I can swing Kyrie and Verajao's expiring deal for another Lottery pick and maybe another player. I do it in a heart beat.
Two lotto picks I grab a SF and a (true) PF, resign Hawes, and find a PG in FA (I like Lowry, and Bledsoe)
Ad I also fire Brown. The guy just isn't a good HC. He's a great Defensive Assistant, the Wade Phillips of the NBA if you will...

I will go ahead and be 'that guy' and pick the Heat to win the Finals. They have the easiest path and are 11-1 in playoff series the last 3 years. They have an extra gear that people forget about every year and the best player in the game for what... 6 of the last 7 NBA seasons? (tip of the cap to Durant for his very fine work this year.)
I try not to get too cute with my sports picks. Just pick the best team and if you can't figure that out, pick the team that has won the most in the recent past. That's Miami. I hope my overly simplistic logic turns out to be wrong.

Totally agree.
I would pick San Antonio in the West. Heck if I knew it were going to be a SA vs Miami rematch, I'd probably pick SA (depending on what I see in the first 3 rounds, doubt that would change barring injury.)

I can't see the Clippers getting out of the west. You could be talking about going through Golden State, OKC, and San Antonio. Talk about a murderers' row. Taking the Spurs. Think Pop puts them over.

I look at it like this with players...if your team is just as good without you or better...Then youre expendable. We played just as poorly with and without him...in fact, they were better in that stretch when he was hurt...
Bye Kyrie. Sign n trade, or trade him somewhere where he'd be willing to sign an extension...I'd take Carmelo before I take Kyrie at this point. Melo has stated he wants to win...Kyrie...man he's talented, but I think he's in it for Kyrie a lil too much.
