So far you have:

QB Bortles
OL Notre Dame
CB Fuller
FS Brooks

WILB C. Jones, SILB P. Brown, SILB M. Bullough, WR Street, WR Gallon, WR Huff, RB White, RB Freeman would be my list.

Those are the guys I think would add the most value to the team over the next few picks

Watching as much as I can on all the possible targets, here are some notes:

- Bullough had a horrible game vs Ohio St. He was flat out owned. Turned me off somewhat and I want Linsley more now because of what I saw in that game.

- P.Brown lacks awareness and plays more like a freelancer. Looking to shoot gaps. It's part of their D though. Choppy in coverage. Was not impressed. Don't see him as a day one starting ILB. At this point, I'm not sure there's one left to be honest...

- Huff is an interesting WR. He can line up inside and outside. Has a good, solid mix of speed and physicality. Don't like his body language, though, there could be a character red flag.

- Norwood is a solid WR prospect, who can line up anywhere too, but I don't see much upside in his game.

- Brett Urban is a freak. If he makes it to 121, I don't see how I can pass him up to be honest, needs be damned. Quick off the snap for his size. Very disruptive, constantly pushing his man into the backfield, but also very stout vs the run in short yd situations. Hustles, gets his hands in passing lanes. Offers scheme and position versatility too. He does lack some ball awareness on some plays, but this guy has unreal upside. Should be a top 75 pick at least, if not more imho. Impact potential. At worst a stud rotational DL, who can line up anywhere along the line. Has some Dez.Bryant to his game.

Well, you know I'm all for Linsley to the Browns.

I keep hearing about Urban from different boards. Still haven't gotten to watch him, but he sounds exciting. My only question is who's roster spot does he take?

In no particular order, here are some guys I'd consider.

Jordan Zumwalt, ILB
Christian Jones, ILB
Dri Archer, WR
Jon Halapio, OG
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OG
Zach Mettenberger, QB
AJ McCarron, QB

I’d wait on RB, Sims or McKinnon with the next pick

On paper, probably Kitchen's with Hughes/Rubin backing up at NT. Wouldn't mind keeping 8 DL too.

Also, with Rubin in his contract season and Dez with his heart condition, it doesn't hurt to have even more depth on the DL. Hughes/Winn are at their best as rotational guys, Armonty too and he's a DE/OLB tweener anyway. Urban offers more upside than any of the backups and, again, with our starters in limbo beyond next season, it would be a good move to take a highly talented but still raw DL.

D.Freeman looked very impressive to me in the Bowl game vs Auburn. 3 down RB. Great vision/instincts, shifty, falls forward. Excellent effort and awareness blocking. Tough for a little guy. Looked good as a receiver too

Me too, I really do. Urban, Freeman and Gaines are probably my top 3 BPAs right now. I see him as a CB/FS, played only as a zone CB at Mizzou, so we don't know how he'd do in Pettine's press man scheme, but he's a physical DB who likes and is able to tackle, so FS is a possibility too for him. Scheme or position, either way he'd probably need a conversion season, but he will play ST and can be used as a backup DB as a rook as well.

As for ILB, Zumwalt I didn't like. Have to go back to C.Jones and see if his athletic upside is worth the gamble, but I doubt he'd be day one ready as a starter.

Good points about Gaines. And remember, he is a play maker. The guy finds the ball.

Zumwalt? I haven't watched a ton of him, so my evaluation is incomplete. However, I watched 3 of their games this year and this guy jumped off the screen to me. I noticed him way more than Barr.

He is always around the ball. He hits hard. Maybe too hard. Might get penalized. He fills gaps well. He drops into coverage well.

I am having a hard time figuring out why he didn't start. I believe he was 3rd on the team in tackles. LOL. Crazy.

I really liked his ability to find the ball. But again, I only saw three of his games. I didn't even know who he was, but his play made me take notice.

Might want to consider him at some point. No hype. Just a guy who makes plays.

Limiting myself to the list you had, here's my top 3. I think you can get Brandon Thomas, and possibly Halapio with your next pick and McCarron is a steal at this point. OG is the bigger need though. I like Archers potential versatility- a McCluster type guy that can play many roles and is a threat every time he's on the field.

1a) AJ McCarron, QB
1b) Jon Halapio, OG
3) Dri Archer, WR/KR/PR/RB

I'd have James Hurst likely 4th of that list (or 3b) - can play OT or OG and is a fit in ZBS.

As I mentioned in my previous post, for RB, I’d wait - Sims or McKinnon should be available with your next pick.

I know the Browns need an ILB, but I just haven't seen a good one except for Skov in this draft. I am, in fact, looking at some late rounders and hope to find some talent there. Avery Williamson is looking promising. Bullough looked so much better in 2012 than 2013, not sure what happened to him, but that Ohio St. game was just brutal and shocking to watch, it really turned me off of him as a 4th rounder and a guy that could come in day one and play better than Robertson.

At this point of the mock, I'd rather go with BPA regardless of need instead of trying to overdraft for a need. I already explained how and where I see a place for Urban and with Gaines he'd battle McFadden for 4th CB. Since every team needs 3 good CBs nowadays, the value of your 4th and 5th guys has increased too since they will hit the field too at some point (the 2013 Browns had to find out the hard way when they had to play UDFA guys and an overdrafted McFadden) No team will go through a season with their top 3 CBs healthy for 16 games. Also, Skrine is a FA after 2014.

Speaking of CB: I really liked what I saw from Devin Lawson. He's a carbon copy of Verrett and 3 rounds later that's pretty decent value. He's a little grabby, but very physical vs the run and usually in tight coverage. Both are less raw versions of Skrine imho.

I also watched some Gallon and you're right, he's a big school sleeper. Did you get to watch some Urban yet? Would be interested in your take of him

Update:

Round 4:

#101 Texans - Lache Seastrunk, RB, Baylor
#102 Redskins - Cameron Fleming, OT, Stanford
#103 Falcons - Brock Vereen, S, Minnesota
#104 Jets (from Bucs) - Chris Smith, LB, Arkansas
#105 Jaguars - Bryan Stork, C, FSU
#106 Seahawks (from Browns) - Will Sutton, DT, Arizona State
#107 Raiders - Justin Ellis, DT, LT
#108 Vikings - Dakota Dozier, OG, Furman
#109 Bills - Ego Ferguson, DT, LSU
#110 Saints (from Rams via Packers) - Travis Swanson, C, Arkansas
#111 Lions - Rashaad Reynolds, CB, Oregon State
#112 Titans - Zach Mettenberger, QB, LSU
#113 Giants - Telvin Smith, LB, FSU
#114 Jaguars (from Ravens) - Michael Schofield, OT, Michigan
#115 Jets - Jack Mewhort, OT, Ohio State
#116 Dolphins - Josh Huff, WR, Oregon
#117 Ravens (from Bears) - Christian Jones, LB, FSU
#118 Steelers - Josh Mauro, DE, Stanford
#119 Cowboys - Jordan Zumwalt, OLB, UCLA
#120 Cardinals - James Gayle, DE/OLB, Virginia Tech
#121 Browns (from Eagles via Packers) - Devonta Freeman, RB, FSU
#122 Packers - Crockett Gillmore, TE, Colorado State

Next picks are #127, #132 and #145 and still a lot of good talent left:

QB: Murray, McCarron, S.Morris
WR: Norwood, Street, Gallon
OL: Hurst, Steen, Linsley
CB: EJ Gaines, N.Lawson
DL: Urban, A.Johnson

#123 Bengals - Vic Hampton, CB, South Carolina
#124 Chiefs - Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OT, McGill
#125 Chargers - Daniel McCullers, DT, Tennessee
#126 Packers (from Saints) - E.J. Gaines, CB, Missouri
#127 Browns (from Colts) - Brent Urban, DE, Virginia

With Gaines gone right before my 2nd pick in this round, the decision was easy. I even rejected a trade offer from the Giants (152+187 for 127), because I feared the 49ers would pick him up before my next pick at 132

Still 4 picks to go 132, 145, 180 and 197

I'm starting to think about "redshirt" picks: B.Thomas, Murray. I also like Norwood, CB N.Lawson, LB Kirksey and G/C Steen with the next picks. Thoughts?

Who's going to play linebacker?

Legit question and I'll answer with a quote from former Bears GM Angelo from the new articles I posted in the "month leading up to the draft" thread:

"First of all, it’s critical to go into the draft free of “needs.” This gives you the freedom to jockey up or down on draft day with the potential to land more draft picks for the present and future drafts, as well as acquiring the best players on the board."

I was lamenting the fact that Farmer left too many obvious need positions unplugged. I would not have hurt to sign some vets, like they did with Burleson for WR2, which was an ok move, at vet minimum. What's to lose? If the rook beats out the vet, you just cut him and play the rook, but to RELY on the rook is the mistake we've been repeating the past 2 offseasons. Both Heckert and LomBanner were too prospect happy and I fear the same "build my own legacy" hybris is partying in Farmer's head these days.

Anyway, back to LB...since no one gets picked and I see no one standing out from another, I decided to wait it out, maybe as late as 180 or 197. To be honest, I don't see anyone left who can clearly beat out Robertson day one. The chances of Robertson bouncing back some and getting back to acceptable next to Dansby is, imho, greater than some 4th to 6th round rook coming in and pushing himself into the lineup.

Guys like P.Brown, Bullough, Kirksey, Barrow etc are still availble and I think they will drop in the real draft too, because all of them have some obvious holes and don't look like 3 down LBs, some of them dont even have the upside for 3 downs, which essentially makes them situational players/ST-only, I would not be surprised to see some of them go undrafted. Maybe Kirksey has the best shot, because of his athleticism/physicality mix and I'll re-watch some of his tape again, but I wasn't overwhelmed at first sight and am not sure he's a system fit, although I read some raving reviews from evaluators I value a lot.

In the end, I just don't know if I can justify taking any of them over guys like Steen or even J.White, who stood out to me when watching them play. If the mid/late round LB prospects aren't looking any better than guys like Lavey or Morris, might as well get one of them in UDFA or in the 7th and use the more valuable picks on prospects you have more conviction in, no?

Thanks for the feedback Steve and all the other posters discussing this btw, appreciate it

The thought process was BPA, something Browns GMs should try out once

I would have probably picked EJ Gaines over Urban at 127, but would have been a close call.

I really think Freeman is the best 3 down RB next to Hyde and the way I see it we have Tate on the roster and a bunch of unproven nobodies. It's still the worst RB depth chart in the NFL. You should watch Freeman play, this guy does the little things: running low, falling forward, adjusting to blitzes, willingness to block etc. You can see that his mind is in the game on every play. He even lines up wide and was a willing lead blocker in other formations. He's a football player and as a RB has enough mileage left thanks to FSU's talented backfield. He also was the first FSU RB since Warrick Dunn to get over 1000yds again and while that's not really important I just had a hard time finding any negative to his game.

Update:

#128 Panthers - Dontae Johnson, CB, N.C. State
#129 49ers - Andre Williams, RB, Boston College
#130 Patriots - Arthur Lynch, TE, Georgia
#131 Broncos - Louchiez Purifoy, CB, Florida
#132 Browns - Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia
comp#133 Lions - Jake Murphy, TE, Utah
comp#134 Ravens - Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers

I picked Aaron Murray at 132. He might go later or undrafted because of his ACL injury, but I thought it was well worth the gamble with the last 4h round pick. With 7 picks in and 3 to go, this is my Browns mock so far:

4 QB Bortles
22 OG/OT Z.Martin
32 CB Fuller
71 FS T.Brooks
121 RB Freeman
127 DE Urban
132 QB Murray

I would be very against another RB (even though White is my #4 RB) and no more DBs. While we're at it, no more DL or QB either, lol.

For me, Street and Gallon are the BPA at the positions you haven't taken yet. I'm not sure at what point you feel like those LBs are worth taking. Steen or Linsley would be good pickups at this point, too.

Independent of position, just say no to WR TJ Jones, RB McKinnon, RB/WR Archer, RB Gaffney, CB T.Mitchell IMO.

Quick update:

Round 5:

#141 Texans - Ed Reynolds, S, Stanford
#142 Redskins - Dri Archer, RB/WR/RS, Kent State
#143 Buccaneers - Jon Halapio, OG, Florida
#144 Jaguars - Christian Kirksey, OLB, Iowa
#145 Eagles (from Browns) - Preston Brown, LB, Louisville
#146 Seahawks - Shaquille Richardson, CB, Arizona
#147 Falcons - Seantrel Henderson, OT, Miami
#148 Vikings - Jerick McKinnon, RB, Georgia Southern
#149 Bills - Ross Cockrell, CB, Duke
#150 Patriots (from Jaguars) - Devin Street, WR, Pittsburgh
#151 Titans - Mike Davis, WR, Texas
#152 Giants - Tyler Larsen, C, Utah State
#153 Rams - Lamin Barrow, LB, LSU
#154 Jets - Nevin Lawson, CB, Utah State
#155 Dolphins - Wesley Johnson, C, Vanderbilt
#156 Bears - Brett Smith, QB, Wyoming
#157 Steelers - Tre Boston, S, North Carolina
#158 Cowboys - Ryan Grant, WR, Tulane
#159 Jaguars - Craig Loston, S, LSU
#160 Cardinals - David Fales, QB, San Jose State
#161 Eagles (from Packers) - Dezmen Southward, S, Wisconsin
#162 Browns (from Eagles) - Anthony Steen, OG, Alabama
#163 Chiefs - Taylor Hart, DE, Oregon
#164 Bengals - Marqueston Huff, S, Wyoming
#165 Chargers - Yawin Smallwood, LB, UConn
#166 Colts - Antone Exum, CB/S, VT
#167 Saints - Adrian Hubbard, LB, Alabama

I traded down from 145 to 162 and got an extra 7th (#237). All my main targets were still available and I just couldn't keep passing on Steen.

Next pick is #180 and my targets are ILB Bullough (he showed up lighter on his ProDay and had good numbers for his size, so banking on him treturning to 2012 form), RB J.White and G/T B.Thomas

Glad you got your guy, bummed we missed out on Preston Brown, Devin Street, and Dez Southward. Loston might have been a nice snag, too, but you can't have everyone.

I think Taylor Hart is an absolute steal after pick 150. He's probably a top-100 player talent-wise. Nice pick by the Chiefs.

*edit* Never mind, forgot you already grabbed a good safety. Not bummed about Southward or Loston.

Oh well, B.Thomas and M.Bullough went back to back at 168 and 169. My lone BPA remaining is RB J.White. If he makes it to 180, I'll double up on RBs. You can never have enough. Tate, Freeman and J.White would be a good looking depth chart. Can't bank on guys like Lewis (health) and Baker (fringe). Never been a fan of Obi, FB or RB. As we've seen last TC, chances are that 1 or 2 of them gets injured before week one anyway. RBs are like SP in baseball, you've got to be 5 deep for a whole season

Khairi Fortt is another option at inside linebacker.

Jay Prosch is an option for FB, though having just signed one maybe that isn't enough of a need.

Another guy I'd consider is Joe Jon Duncan at TE. I'm really intrigued by this guy.

Just watched Fortt vs Ohio St.. Off of that, he's not worth a pick and will struggle to make a team's roster as a backup through ST play imho. Making things worse, he's not a 3-4 fit at all. Struggles at the point and didn't see good instincts to plug holes. Pretty underwhelming to be honest. Morris from Iowa is the best ILB prospect left that I've watched imho, and he's a fringe prospect too, but he'd make a team with ST ability.
Talking of Iowa defenders, I would try to sign any undrafted player from that D. BJ Lowery, a CB/FS tweener looked like a draftable player to me. Same with their SS, but according to most, they'll go undrafted

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't watched any TEs this draft, because with Cameron, Dray, Barnidge and a handful of developmental players already on the roster, this unit seems filled and crowded from top to bottom.

WR Gallon (thanks Steve, he's really underrated due to his size, but plays much bigger and I see enough versatility to fill in both in the slot and outside as WR2, exactly the kind of guy I was looking for. He's a Cobb-lite)
and FB Millard (was supposed to go mid rounds a year ago had he left, seems like a perfect WCO-FB, but have to watch more) are the guys I'm eyeing for the other picks

Duncan is nice because he can play 4 positions. He could line up in the slot (and at 270lb that'd be quite the mismatch), be an in-line TE, and H-Back as well as is a long snapper.

I saw a guy that has soft hands and catches with his hands. Mainly on short routes. I didn't see much around blocking, so I've had to depend on what I've read about him there - it seems that he's got short arms and is somewhat inconsistent in his blocking, but you don't expect perfection from a 4-6 rounder. My big concern is that he's a small school guy - so is he good overall or just better talent than the guys he played against...

I agree that there's a bunch of TEs already in the mix, but his versatility is the selling point to me.

11 picks, 8 on Offense. I missed out on ILB, which is a huge need. I wanted to draft Morris in the 7th, who had better tape than pretty much all the mid round ILBs I saw...but the Bills had the same idea. I really didn't see much talent at ILB after Skov and none of the mid rounders would beat out a vet like Robertson or Diles from day one.
Very glad I got both Fuller and T.Brooks for CB and FS, though I would have sacrificed Brooks+Urban for WR Matthews or ILB Skov in hindsight. I was cheap for Matthews because I was sure Skov would fall to me at 71. Skov could go anywher from high 2nd to UDFA depending on his medical though. It is really a bad ILB class overall.
Also happy that I got 2 QBs, 2 OL and 2 RBs. I think too many on here are feeling too secure about RB after the Tate signing. I am convinced more than ever that you need 3 really good one's over a full season and as much as 5 capable one's into TC. That's the depth good running teams have. I was wowed by Freeman's tape. He runs low and fights for yds, always falling foward. Overall he was a close 2nd to Hyde for me. He is football smart and does the little things needed to succeed, he has no glaring weakness and is a complete 3 down back. One of my tape favs.
Prosch is a questionable fit for a WCO FB, but if used, he should improve the running game. Was really tough to let C Linsley on the board in the 7th. This class is really deep from the mid rounds well into UDFA territory. Prospects like Gaffney, Saunders, Dowling, St. Morris, C.Shaw, Wenning, Ch.Jones, Pagan, Perkins, Grice, Hazel and Rodgers went undrafted

Btw, I also picked the last 4 Steelers players (Mitchell, Britt, Annen, Stinson) because their GM could not finish their mock and I took over for him.

Feel free to comment

I like your top 4 picks a lot. I'm not a huge Bortles guy but it is a major need and can you why you'd do it. I probably would have too Manziel their instead. Getting Murray as a back up QB is good too.

I probably would have subbed one of Urban, Freeman, White for a WR. I would have maybe even gone WR at 121 and 127. I don't like the prospect of Hawkins, Burleson or Little every down guys.
