Well, this attitude is no different then the Mafia members of the 50's & 60's. They never rat out anyone either. Heck, turn on any episode of the Soprano's (or pop in ANY Mafia movie ever made). It's not a "black thing". When you live on the line of violence/crime/street/gambling you don't respect the police, period. If you're found out to be a rat, you aren't trusted. Not really a shock.
The gangsters of the 40s and 50s at least had some boundaries...not many, but certain things were not touched. No harming kids, wives...no drugs around children...never disrespecting another man's wife and always taking care of their own if tragedy strikes. The gangsta rappers are all about themselves and no one else...other than the record buying public.
I guess the only thing I can really say is... I'm Italian and my attitude probably is most like your description of the gangster in the 40's and 50's.
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

Steinbuck for president
Who the hell is "Steinbuck"?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

j/c...
This is why I don't listen to newer rappers. I'll still listen to old school stuff, but the newer guys are just idiots. They feel like they have to tell everyone how hard they are. I've even read an article about how some rappers will make up background stories about being hard to sell records.
This is why I listen to old school and not this new stuff. The old school guys really were hard, guys like Tupac, Dre', etc, actually would shoot someone. Not saying I approve of it, but they aren't fake like the new rappers are.
Ok, but on this subject. I could see him saying if someone came after him or his crew that he wouldn't turn them in, but a seriel killer... that's going a little far. Derden actually made a good point, you guys should go back to read his post. (I can't believe I said that).
If it involves just him, it would be wise for him not to say anything, so they didn't "eliminate the snitch" so to speak. But a seriel killer? That's just going too far.

I listen to new rappers like El-P. His new album "I'll Sleep When Your Dead" is fan-freaking-tastic.
Especially the tracks "League of Extraordinary Nobodies" & "Tasmanian Pain Coaster" & "Poisenville Kids No Wins/Reprise"
