The Origin Revealed
According to Steven Hager, editor of High Times, the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking wiseacres who called themselves the Waldos, who are now pushing 50. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation. While our teens feel that they know something we don't, you can let them in on the fact that it was your generation that came up with the numbers.
A quote from one of the Waldos in the High Times article states, "We did discover we could talk about getting high in front of our parents without them knowing by using the phrase 420." Fortunately, your teenagers will not have that same option.

I don't smoke, so I will choose to kill some brain cells in another manner, with my friend alcohol.  - Done with work today at 2pm - Will then say to myself, screw working out, I need a nap - Awake from nap, head to store for good vodka, beer - Heading over a friends tonight for a b-day party/Bond night. Drink a few martini's (shaken, not stirred) and watch 1-2 James Bond classics.

I'll be taking my French exam at 10:30am (cramming now). Coming home and sleeping. Then waking up to start studying for a Chemistry exam on Wednesday.
I know, I'm an advocate of getting high and all. But its not something that your life should revolve around.
4/20 is for stoner teenagers to skip school, get high, be irresponsible, and be kids. Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll are all part of growing up.
I'm an adult (contrary to popular belief). And I've got other things to worry about.
But, if you've got the time to get down, then by all means................

j/c... I got class till noon. (I'm in class now.. obviously not paying attention). Then I'm going home and going back to sleep until work at 4. Then when I get off at 10, I'm going home and going back to sleep because I have a 7 AM tee time tomorrow  Exciting 420 huh? lol.

i skipped out on my fair share of classes, but i don't get that...why bother going to class if you're not gonna pay attention, or to sleep?...it's much more comfortable at home, and there's more things to do...

I don't get that either. Yresterday, during my Chemistry lecture this guy and this chick sitting next to him came to class, talked about South Park for about 30 minutes. Then she got up and left. So he then sat there for about 15 minutes drawing a picture---then he left.
At no point did either of them take any notes or pay any attention. And I was thinking----you kids could've just stayed at home to draw pictures and talk about South Park. Why even show up if you aren't going to even try to learn anything?
It was so freaking distracting. I wanted to Taser them.

It's my birthday and as (bad)luck would have it I won't be able to partake as I just had to pass a urine screen last week for a new job I start on Monday. Did I mention I will now have to get up at 5:00am?

That is rough my freind. I had a similar situation to get my currect job.
I saw this thing about we pay taxes, people get our tax money for services (welfare et cetera)
Why should people who recieve welfare have to pass a urine test????
I think they should, If I have to buy Juices and drinks and not smoke for weeks to pass a urine test.
Bottom line, if I have to pass a urine test to get paid, so should everyone.

Somebody has their panties in a wad. No one said you or other pot smokers were stupid. They said it was a stupid teen thing to signify getting together and smoking pot. Most use it like it's some secret code, but we all know what it means, it isn't a mystery what they are doing. Most adults have grown out of it, and just say, "wanna go take a hit" or "Lets go smoke some weed/joint" PS - I don't smoke anything. But I know ALOT of people that do. I think I'm a minority in that aspect.  Can I get government assistance?

Exactly. I don't have a problem with people that smoke a little pot. But 420 is just stupid. The original idea was to use 420 as a way to protest the legalization of weed. If it was still used for that, then I could understand. But, kids just use it as an excuse to get high. And that is stupid.

Well I'm 39 spent time in the service and worked with all kinds of people and never heard of it. For years I drove a line truck carrying 50 foot telephone poles on a trailer, not to mention trying to set them between power lines and in close proximity to houses. I could not afford to take a chance being a pot head.
If you want to continue to brag about all the drugs you do go ahead and keep it up it doesn't bother me. I just hope for your sake your company doesn't start a policy of random drug tests. I've seen what happens when people fail those.
Considering that I'm now on disability I'm pretty confident you make more than me and it doesn't bother me a bit if you do drugs.

That's one of the best ideas I've ever heard. Just like people on welfare say they can't find a job. Bull!!! There are jobs everywhere. Offer them a job at McDonalds or cleaning the parking lot at Wal-Mart...if they don't take it, no money for you!A crappy job with bad pay is still better than no job with no pay.
The sad thing is, I don't even smoke to "party" or get high. I just take a couple of puffs at night so I can sleep with chronic neck and back pain. Doctors always just want to give you pills that linger too long and make me too groggy the whole next day. You can't tell me that is better for you than a couple of puffs once the wife and kid arre in bed.
