Isn't it just typical, when we have a high pick and the ammo to move up if necessary, there is no clear cut choice to be had at the quarterback position. Why the hell couldn't there be a sure thing QB in this years draft? Damn!
here is the reality of it all. Point blank there are two teams needing a QB just as bad as we do. Texans and Jaguars. Picking ahead of us. What makes you think remotely we would have a chance at THE CLEAR CUT CHOICE of a QB standing 3rd in line. Come on lets not get depressed - actually there are two maybe 3 QBs in this realm of things that 5 years from now teams will be kicking themselves in the head for not taking! Lets hope we get one of them!

Well put eo.. yes we have #4, yes we have other ammo.. but if there was an Andrew Luck in this draft, it would take all we've got and more to pry that pick away from Houston..

And under the present circumstances, they would be foolish to trade with us just like the Colts would have been dumb to trade the first pick when Luck came out.
If they had Payton Manning in his prime, sure,,

If he's not good enough to take at #4...I'm not sure I want him until mid-late round investment.
bb- same for your statement...who cares #8 or #10 if he is that good to go 8 or 10 he's good enough for #4. I mean if you want to try to drop back to 6 or 7 fine...which we might want to do. But if there is a guy...and there definitely is A GUY we really like I would be surprised we don't take him at #4 or a short drop back.

The last qb who was as highly regarded as Luck was John Elway. When was he drafted? 1983?
Kinda silly to limit yourself like that.

Peyton Manning would disagree with that statement.
So would Jeff George, but I am going into the weeds with that one.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

It wasn't me who said it. It was widely reported before last year's draft by multiple media types.
Manning was neck and neck w/Ryan Leaf. The knock on Manning was that he couldn't win the big one. Interesting, eh?
Jeff George was not as highly regarded as many guys. Sorry.

Here is one article. Didn't take long to find. I will provide more if you think I am making this up. Quote:

Here are the top two collegiate qbs of all time:
Quote:
2. John Elway (Stanford)
In 1983, Elway was hyped as the best quarterback to enter the draft since Namath. It was like Elway had been created in a test tube; he was looked upon as the man with the golden arm and the All-American looks who was the next great NFL star. He finished second in the 1982 Heisman voting behind Herschel Walker despite playing for a 5-6 team. Oh yeah, Elway also was a stud baseball prospect in the New York Yankees’ organization. What couldn’t the man do?
Much like Eli Manning, he made demands - refusing to play for the Baltimore Colts and threatening to choose baseball instead if he wasn’t trade. He eventually was dealt to the Denver Broncos and became the standard - and a comparison point - for hyped quarterbacks entering the league.
. 1. Andrew Luck (Stanford)
What’s in the water in Palo Alto?
The son of an NFL quarterback, Luck would have gone No. 1 in last spring’s draft. He is being billed as the next Peyton Manning and many scouting reports don’t list a single weakness in his game. Apparently bored of making rifled, precision passes, Luck has now incorporated one-handed catches into his repertoire. The pandemonium around Luck has gotten so out of control that there is a weekly “Suck for Luck” watch on the worst teams in the NFL and talk about tanking for the top pick in next April’s draft.
If drafted by the Colts, people seem to expect him to eventually replace Manning and pick up right where a four-time NFL MVP left off. How’s that for expectations?
