The Raiders’ first-round pick has historically been one of the hardest to predict heading into the draft, but according to one report, we can rule out a quarterback at No. 5.
That’s the word from Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, who reports that the Raiders aren’t really considering drafting either of the top two quarterbacks, Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M or Blake Bortles of Central Florida, with the fifth overall pick.
That report contradicts what Raiders G.M. Reggie McKenzie has said, which is that the Raiders remain open to drafting their quarterback of the future, even if they’ve already spent a sixth-round pick on a trade for Matt Schaub to be their quarterback of the present.
“Because we traded for Schaub does that mean we’re going to bypass a [quarterback] that we’ve got graded a certain way? No,” McKenzie said.
If the Raiders don’t draft a quarterback, they’ll go into training camp with Schaub as the starter, Matt McGloin as a young backup they hope can develop and Trent Edwards as a veteran backup. That may not be as inspiring as Johnny Football in Silver and Black, but that appears to be the direction in which the Raiders are headed.

It's pretty clear that the Raiders want Watkins. That makes our spot pretty valuable to anyone who wants to trade up for him.

They have way to many needs to take a QB. They could go any direction of WR, OT or Mack.

I would say OLB, OT and WR are all needs for them and probably in that order.

In other words, they're in a great spot if they want to stick at #5.

Or they are screwed Mack, Watkins, and Robinson could all be gone before they pick.

Exactly. Which also means we are in a great spot for teams that are afraid of who they'd take.

They have too many needs to take a QB they are not 100% convinced is a franchise quality QB.
If you are a team that does not have a QB, you need one. Make no mistake about it. The Raiders need a QB almost as desperately as we do.
That said, I would be extremely happy if we could trade down with the Raiders one spot and add a 2nd round pick to our arsenal of picks in this draft. They might just do it if there is a player available at 4 who they desperately want.

Hmm, all that really says to me is that they don't have interest in Manziel or Bortles. They could still like the guy that was "consensus" number one all season or the local boy Carr.

So, if Mack is gone by #5, they're taking Barr or one of the tackles?

If the Raiders keep their pick I think it will be one of Evans, Watkins, or Matthews. I don't see how Mack gets to pick five.

I don't think it would be very bright for them to trade a 2nd rd pick to move up one spot. That would be a Butch Davis move, especially when you need talent on your roster. They don't have a long term answer at quarterback, so if they feel Manziel or Bortles is the guy, they should take him. Even if Robinson and Watkins are gone, Evans and Matthews will be available, so I don't think they would need to get desperate, and trade a high pick.

If they were convinced that they absolutely needed a particular player, then yesh, I could see them using an extra high pick to move up. I wouldn;t do so for a WR in this draft, but who knows? It would be tremendous if they would.
Remember, this is the team that left their LT walk ...... because ..... Umm .... I don't really know why. They then went and downgraded by signing Roger Saffold, then cancelled his contract when he failed their physical.
They had no real reason to just let their LT go like that. They also let Houston go, despite planty of room to re-sign him.
They did re-sign McFadden ..... and signed Maurice Jones-Drew ...... and signed a bunch of older players ..... which I don't get .......
I don't really like many of their off-season moves.
That all said, their fortunes for this year rest largely on the shoulders of Matt Schaub.

I took the comment about our pick having value is more about other teams who might want to jump in front of Oakland. I don't think they have much interest in moving up 1 slot. If they move up it would probably be to #2.

You should see some of these mock drafts having Mack fall to 8.

I recognize that when Al Davis ran the team, they were unpredictable. But these days, without Davis, are they still?

His son runs the team now, and from what I've read about him so far, the apple didn't fall too far from the tree.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

The titles on this are of course misleading. It's draft week...
They said they've ruled out Bortles and Manziel, no where have I read they ruled out QB.
