Obviously, we are well armed with picks this year going into the draft. So I want to put a simple question to all of you:
Using our two first round picks and our second rounder, taking players grade out in the range of those picks; what would be the most disappointing senario you could predict?
Personally, I would be very disappointed to take a tackle at #4, ILB at #26 and a QB in the second. It might actually be the plan...
The best scenario for me would be Watkins at #4, Manziel (or Bortles) at #26 and CB in the second.

What he said....lol. I literally tried to come up with a better list and couldn't. One could make an argument for Mack/Watkins at 4 being the most disappointing (depending on their opinion of them), but that is an impressive disappointing list steve.........very Browns worthy.

Taking a QB or OLB at #4, or an OLB at 26 or 35. IMHO there are no QBs worthy of #4, and we don't need an OLB that high (if at all). I'm somewhat flexible beyond that.

We need a difference maker at #4.. I honestly don't care what position it is.. (Obviously I'd prefer QB) but if we get a WR or a ILB or a CB or even an OL that is a perennial pro-bowl talent for the next 10 years, it will have been a good pick.

I don't want a tackle at 4. I don't care if it's BPA or if the guy is legendary, we already have dumped a ton of money into our OL, and have serious holes at other position and one giant gaping one at the most important position in the league.
I would be disappointed in Mack at 4 even though I love him as a player. That must mean they have almost no faith in Mingo and maybe even Kruger to an extent? You literally just went OLB last year with a very high pick...
Watkins at 4, ok, I get it, but I think the value is bad, and the fact that this seem to be the deepest WR class in years would make me a little upset.
It just seems like Manziel is going to fall to you at 4, he's good, has the attitude they need, and there really isn't someone in this crop of top rated players that I can see us regretting if we don't take them... If we take Johnny are we really going to look back and wish we took Greg Robinson or Blake Bortles?
They can do what they want at 26. There are so may options there, plus 25 picks before it that we have no idea about. You gotta roll with the punches in that situation. I wouldn't be mad at any pick there outside of trying to pull another Weeden move and get a value pick with a QB at 26. No.

Using premium picks to fix holes at positions of low relative value.
To me that means RT, G, ILB.
When we have a glaring need at two premium positions, QB (4x more important than any position in football) and CB (We actually need two guys that can play, not just one)
My best case scenario is:
4. Manziel 26. Dennard 35. Davante Adams
My nightmare scenario would be:
4. Jake Matthews 26. Ryan Shazier 35. Xavier Sua-Filo
Another reason why? Because you really should be able to find competent starters at those positions later in the draft

As long as we don't take a receiver at #1, it's going to be hard to be totally dissapointed....at least in real talk....sure, if we draft a kicker #1 that would set up for a bad decade.

As well as the Browns. I really am convinced they are going to take Robinson at 4, and that is beyond asinine. For starters we had what was largely considered a top OL last year and that landed us the 4 pick. So how much better does anyone really going to be by drafting a RT even if it makes us the best OL in the league? Secondly, I am a big an OL pimp as there is, but drafting an RT at 4 is very poor position value.....especially when you have invested the amount of resources we have on the OL already.
I want Manziel and believe we are a trigger man away from being a really good team. If the Browns don't like JFF fine then trade back a few spots and.gain value....or draft a stud defender like Mack. Heck I want no part of Watkins, but he makes more since than Robinson.
Greg is great player potentially, but when you are talking about making the Browns a great team I don't know that he does much to accomplish that.

Good idea for a thread.
What would disappoint me?
I don't want a quarterback at four. Given the depth of the WR position, I don't want a wr at four either. That means I would be disappointed with a qb or wideout at four.
By the time we get to 26, I am open to whatever.
To be honest I want two stud defenders in the first round. Therefore, with pick # 4 I would like Clowney, or Mack or a trade down and at that point select the top DB or LB available, and then at 26 again, the top DB or LB available.
As far as taking an o-lineman at four, I am not opposed to it at all. A strong o-line means a stronger running game which means a stronger passing game. Additionally, when picking as high as four, I don't want a risky prospect and from what I have read Mathews and Robinson are the two safest picks in the draft.

Yup.
And that said, I'd be disappointed with: #4 Manziel #26 Manziel #35 Manziel etc. etc. etc.
What I would like is: #4 Jake Matthews (can play any position on the line - another pro bowl lineman). #26 Kevin Benjamin (Watkins is a disaster waiting to happen off field) #35 Carlos Hyde (work horse. good 5-10-15 yard run back straight at the line) #71 Justin Gilbert (but I don't think he'll drop that far) etc.
I'm in agreement with many media gurus out there. There are no "first ten pick" QB's in this draft and also no start-right-out-of-the-gate franchise QB's. Bortles has the most promise. I'd also like to see us pick up Ryan Shazier and C.J. Mosley. But I would imagine both of those will be gone after the first round.
Never have hope. You won’t be disappointed.

You nailed it. You could swap Matthews for Robinson at #4 on the chance StL takes Robinson at # 2.
I might tweak it with alternatives:
4) Robinson/Matthews 26) Roby 35) Garoppolo/McCarron
If this happens you'll need a ticket to get in line at the 480 bridge.

The absolute worst case:
4 Mack 26 XSF 35 Savage
or next worse
4 Manziel 26 Shazier 35 A.Robinson/K.Benjamin
or
4 Watkins 26 Garoppolo 35 Roby/Verrett
...or any combination of those players at those spots (with 26 and 35 interchangable). Any TE, especially ASJ, with those picks would drive me nuts too

I'm not sure that a lot will disappoint me. Although that it's funny that so many people have such a broad spectrum of a "terrible" draft.
I'd probably be fine with just about anyone for the first pick, outside of maybe Carr. Clowney and Mack are considered the top 2 talents by most it seems. Watkins is probably the best WR talent available and with the way the mocks are shaping up, one of several QBs may be available at 26 anyway. Manziel was a round 2 pick that's been talked up to a #1 pick 3 months later, while Bridgewater was a #1 pick that's been talked down to a 2nd rounder 3 months later, and Bortles is a first round project that's stayed as a first round project. If we draft any of them at 4, I'm hoping it's because they did their homework and feel he's the future ... and not a 20th ranked prospect that they took just because "we need a QB". At any rate, I'd be fine with any three. And lastly, Robinson and Matthews are probably the "safest" picks. Likely top linemen, that would push Schwatz to guard, and shore up 2 positions with one pick.
I'm not sure I'd be too happy with a CB or a WR at #26 if 4 of those position have already been taken. Someone like Roby or Herron or something. That would just reek of getting a guy just to get that position filled. I think both WR and CB have about 4 players that are "first round" worthy, and everyone else would be reaching a bit.
For the 3rd pick ... again, not sure. Probably something out of a need position, like a DT or a DE. We have so many holes, and this draft is pretty deep ... it's going to be hard to pick someone that doesn't fill a hole.

And ya see, I'd absolutely no problem taking Robinson at 4. I'd be excited. He goes to RT, Swartz slides to G and our OL woes are over for years. The running game improves over night and who ever is throwing the ball has the best chance any QB has had here in 20+ years. He's being called a once in a decade tackle. What do we have, 4 more years of Thomas? You take takes in the 1st rnd.

According to your board, there's no top #71 pick at QB.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If we didn't have gaping holes on this team at QB, CB, and ILB, I would be all for selecting a great OL. However, given the way this OL performed when a QB not names Weeden was under center, and when either Obi or Baker ran the ball, we don't need an overhaul. I look back 2 years to when we ran the WCO, and even with Weeden under Center, we only allowed 36 sacks. We have 80% of that OL coming back, and we are returning to that ZBS.
I am really hoping that whoever Atlanta desperately wants slips to us at 4, and we are able to pull off a trade where we get the #6 pick and their 2nd rounder, in exchange for the 4th overall and one of our 3rd rounders. I think that's a real possibility.
I have a feeling that Farmer is going to move around a lot in the top of this draft. I would think that maybe we even work to get as many high picks as possible, because we really don't have room for 10 rookies on this team.

I think the most dissapointing thing would be us taking Carr with any of the other Top 3 QBs still on the board...
Especially a guy like Manziel, who you know is going to come into the league, and at least be exciting to watch...
With us sitting there with Carr on the bench.
Sometimes unanswered questions are worse than knowing the truth.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Yes. Yes. and Yes. This would be worst-case scenario for me.
And I'll add anyone from that OSU defense in the first 3 picks. They looked terrible last year. No discipline.

I love the fact there is a thread about what disappointments we might have. Classic! (and I love it)
Anyway, today feels like Christmas Eve to me as a kid. What will Santa Farmer bring us tomorrow? Hopefully it's not...
1 - Trading up 2 - Carr at 4 3 - an OL at 4 4 - A #2 WR at 4 (as much as I like Watkins...) 5 - Trading down too far to pass on top talent (2011 when we passed on Julio Jones to move all the way down to 21 to get Phil Taylor) 6 - Getting suckered to move up one spot...such as we did with Kellen Winslow and Trent Richardson.
As long as none of the above are in my stocking tomorrow night, I'll be happy.
