You just drafted freaking godzilla. Do yourself a favor and go watch every texas a&m play of 2012-3. Manziel dominated the football field full of nfl bound talent like no player in all of history.
Now i just hope the browns can pick up some ol and wr talent and the staff put together a good scheme. If he has a team around him, this is a hall of fame potential qb.
And you have a million new fans in texas.

I hope your right.
But what you see as dominating, I see as undisciplined and electric w many flaws in his game that does not translate to the NFL. That being said, I think his range is from Ryan Leaf to Joe Montana in capability. I just hope this coaching staff gets it/him right in how they handle him.... Dont Tim Couch it.

Wow, I hope this is a better draft than the one that brought us Ozzie and Clay Matthews ....... that would be incredible!

It's going to be annoying to see everyone sell short the Browns no matter what Johnny does...

I don't mind the jokes or anything like that, but people are acting like we don't have the 2nd best WR in the NFL, we don't have the best LT in the NFL, don't have one of the best centers and corners. Just annoying getting slept on. Johnny is going to come in here and win because you just need to be a bit better than Weeden to get 10 wins, with our team, but the media and casual fans are going to act like it's all him because they've slept on what we've been putting together for 7 years.

Like I said last year before the season started... when everyone was worrying about a complete rebuild....we have alot of talent on this team and we are so close.
Today is another step in that direction

This was said the night Thomas and Quinn were drafted, This was said the night Richardson and Weeden were drafted.
Third time is the charm.

It was said the night Thomas and Quinn were drafted ... Thomas is still here and a multi-time pro-bowler. Quinn just never panned out. We also had to give up a first rounder to move up and get Quinn. Today ... we got our potential pro-bowl CB, our boom or bust Quinn like QB in Manziel, but we GOT a first rounder next year. Advantage: 2014.
As for the other draft ... It definitely was NOT said after Richardson and Weedon. That was a brutal draft, and I think most people knew it right away. Personally, I was quite ticked we trade up one spot to draft a RB ... who would of been there at 4 anyway ... and was also a freaking RB. Weeden was a stretch of epic proportions.

Either way it is a good start for this years draft.
And We will be Skip Bayless's most talked about team. We'll be on First Take everyday.
From a PR standpoint nothing could be better

I think the worst thing in the (sports) world, is when you suddenly find yourself in a conversation about a team (IE: Browns) and are going deep into it..
And then realize the person your talking to doesn't get as deep into as you do..
For example, I was at drill last month and I heard people talking about the draft, I listened, gave a few thoughts etc, and then started going back and forth with one guy when he said
"Cleveland really needs to get some D-Line help, theirs is terrible.."
It literally made me lose my train of thought...
Or many a year ago, when I'd be at the laundramat and i'd here to older folks talking about the Browns, and I'd give my insight, and the one guy said "You know what they need to do with Braylon Edwards?" to which, in my head, I assume he's going to say bench him..
"Cut him. Just get rid of him" This was in his 2nd year btw..
I just.. slowly removed myself from the conversation and went back to watching clothes spin around...
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Man... these stories could be pages from my own life. Change a detail or two... the story's pretty much the same- Lately, I've found that I walk away from Browns talk about as often as I stick around and engage. I guess I've gotten too old to waste time.... ....said the guy banging out a post at 2:30 in the morning....

I am just going to talk about "this night", and what it means.
We grabbed 2 players at 2 of the hardest to fill positions in football. (QB and Man CB, with pass rusher probably being the other) We still have 6 more picks in this draft, 4 of which fall within the top 127 picks. (and we may move around further in this draft) We stand a great chance of adding at least 4 more starter quality/key backup type players. I am so excited about adding Gilbert. I remember us adding scrub players like Owens, Brown, and so on, trying to hide them on defense, and hoping that the offense couldn't find them. Now we don't have to hide any of them. Skrine should thrive in the slot. I hope we can add one more cover CB in the next 2 rounds. In fact, if we go WR in the 2nd, as I suspect we will, then adding a CB in the 3rd, and an ILB in the 4th, would make this an ideal draft for me. We could add purely BPA at that point and I'd be thrilled.
Now, move ahead a year, and make some assumptions.
Let's assume that Gilbert and Manziel work out, and we add a guy like Lee, and he does as well. On offense we would have our QB, and weapons like Tate, Gordon, Lee, Cameron, and Hawkins. That would be incredible. On defense, we would still have 5 young DL under contract, at least 3 young OLB, and one young ILB. We would have our secondary set up with Whitner, Haden, and Gilbert.
Then we would also have a pair of 1st round picks, one of which might just be a high pick.
I think this team is on the rise, and this night, while it isn't the start of the rise, could be a massive step forward for this team. Imagine next year having 2 first round picks and being able to truly look for the best player available, instead of just making lip service about it.
If we can, then tonight will have been an important stepping stone to that point.
I truly feel pretty damn good about the direction of this team.

The guy I got to talk to last night actually knew quite a bit more about the Browns than I did- Phil Savage He predicted that Haslem got sold a bill of goods w/ Banner/Lombardi when I talked w/ him during Senior Bowl He also claimed to call the trade out of 4 and the Browns taking Gilbert. I have no reason to doubt What a great start to the draft.
If I only knew then what I know today...

I haven't been a believer in Manziel. I'm mostly worried about his size, and we've all seen what happens when you throw a rookie to the wolves. I hope he's holding a clipboard for the first half of the year, unless he just runs over Hoyer in camp.
I liked the Gilbert pick, as I have fond memories of Dixon/Minnifield. I would like QBs to play us with the same trepidation they had during that era. They were the best CB pair in the history of the NFL. I think we'll see an interesting dynamic with Haden, Gilbert, and Skrine's speed in the nickel.

Not for nothing, but we are being praised for an excellent first round thus far. Perhaps this is the attitude turn we've been waiting for

That they won 2 games in 99 with the hand he/they were dealt is an amazing feat in itself.

Here's an idea of conversations I have with him during games..
"What happened?" "False Start" "On who?" "The offense.." "Who's on offense?"
I have this problem on game day. We watch at my mom's house, who is a huge fan, very vocal and cheering, screaming, etc.
But, she's not very knowledgeable. They throw a flag for an obvious false start while we are on defense and she gets all mad and screaming, "Can't you just wait til the ball is hiked?" and stuff, while I laugh. She then says "What's so funny?" I say "The penalty is them, not us mom."
or the old "His feet were in, it should count as a good catch right?" "No, he landed on his butt out of bounds long before his feet touched down in bounds."
"Aww, a flag, now what did we do?" "No mom, that is not a flag, that is a leaf blowing across the field."
The list goes on.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

To me, you just defined the quintessential Browns fan.
Most of my buddies are either Browns, Bengals, or Steelers fans. Browns fans are - by far - the most knowledgeable football fans. The Steelers fans are a not-too-distant second and the Bengals fans are generally clueless.

Manziel will most likely be out of the NFL in 3-4 years.
Getting Buffalo's first next year does go a long way in soothing the sting, though.

My thoughts. As if anyone cares. I watched a lot of Manziel this past year... and rooted for someone to destroy him. I don't like his 'money' hand gesture thing or his smug smile. I don't look to my football players to be show boaters or 'Hollywood'. Those kind of guys make me root against them. As a college QB I don't deny his uncanny ability to make plays. Even if many of those plays are hucking the ball deep with guys in your face in hopes that Evans bails you out. When Manziel walked across the stage last night and did his little 'money' sign thing...I wanted someone to tackle him. It made my skin crawl. When he does it on Sundays...it'll make that visceral reaction in me. There will always be a part of me that won't like that part of the kid. That said, he's a Brown, now I have to figure out how to root for him. My hope is I'm forced to watch him do his 'money' thing a lot, because he's throwing a ton of TDs. While it'll always make me seethe inside, at least we'll be winning. Though the first time I see him do it in a losing endevour... in the back of my mind I'll continue to root for someone to tackle him. Much like TO got tackled for showboating on the Dallas star.

Unfortunate I totally agree. Problem is, a kid with his mind set doesn't make a very good backup QB. Once he washes out at starter he'll fall completely out of favor IMO. /

And I'd be just fine if he did it 40 times a year ... as in he throws that many touchdown passes. Cam Newton does his superman thing. Aaron Rodgers does that championship belt thing. Nobody seems to care too much about those. I can think of far more annoying TD celebrations. If he's doing it 40 times a year, he can pull down his pants and show off his Batman underwear for all I care.

It's not the gesture itself that makes him look like an idiot, so much as it is when he chooses to use it.
When you're flashing it to taunt Rice, or when you get picked 22nd, you kind of look like an idiot. Not to mention the fact that the gesture came about because he got caught taking money in college...which is so easy to get away with, you'd have to be an idiot to get caught.
Anyway, I don't think he'll pan out in the NFL, but I'm not as pessimistic as when we took Quinn and Weeden (though I expect a similar fate).
