I bought a lot of SKS rifles with many cases of ammo before the import ban. It was a very good investment! Now people can quibble over the terminology all they want, but they're not 22 rifles or shotguns. Most everyone knows this. While they can be used for hunting, that is not the reason they were manufactured. They were manufactured for the purpose of war and killing people. Now you are more than welcome to phrase that any way you like. I have no objections.

Are you saying SKS's are illegal now? Or were at some time? I guess I'm not following you here.

They are a lot more expensive now. Before the ban, you could buy them for 100 dollars or less.

We're in agreement for the most part. The reason this wouldn't be a move of civil disobedience is if they bring an AK or damage the land, which they are planning on doing and have been doing.
Are AK's illegal? I wasn't aware of that. There ARE some that are illegal, for 99.9%.....the fully auto ak's. But the vast majority of ak owners do not own fully auto ak's. They are semi auto. Not much different then a semi auto .22, aside from the bullet they shoot.
General comment.....AK's and AR's have more then 2 times the muzzle velocity of a semi auto .22 long. The higher the MV, the more damage regardless of the cal. MV is the second main stat for rating firearms next to the cal. I'm going on memory here but I believe the MV of a AK is somewhere around 2800 ft per sec. A .22 rifle is around 1200 ft per sec.

In and around Dayton, I could get a Chinese for $79.95 and a Russian for $99.99 before the import ban.
With a few fancy and cheap "Rambo looking gadgets", muzzle break and bi-pod I turned around and sold them a few years later for almost triple what I paid for them.
The ammo was running around 80 bucks for corrosive and 100 for hermetically sealed ammo per case. Another very good investment.
So no Arch, they weren't outlawed, however importing them from overseas was banned. Which caused the cost of them to rise drastically.

Yes and no.
Taking the discussion to handguns: a 9 mm has a much higher MV than a .45. SOME argue that the 9 is bad because it travels too fast, thereby going through the target, and not dispersing it's energy fully IN the target.
MV is important - but caliber, as well as weight (grains) of the round is important as well.
My muzzle loader shoots a 240 grain (how much the round weighs), 50 caliber round (diameter of the round). I don't know the muzzle velocity off the top of my head - but I do know that's a whole lot of "oomph" coming at you.
My slug gun shoots a 1 ounce slug (I think that's about 437 grains - for reference)......and it makes a big hole, at a whole lot slower muzzle velocity.
My .223 shoots - well, I generally use a 45 grain round (wood chucks).....and it comes out at around 3200 fps - That's one heck of a MV.
Let's say I were to get shot. At 100 yards. Would I prefer the slow moving slug, the .50 caliber round from the muzzle loader, or the .223.....with, by far, the highest MV. Assuming no hollow points, no ballistic tips (on the .223).......shoot me with the .223. It's higher muzzle velocity, lower weight.......won't do near as much damage as the other 2. And that means I have a much better chance of surviving.
Why I'm even bringing this up........I don't know.
One can compare AR's - generally (and I say "generally".......because they make AR's in .22 cal, also) a .223 rifle (comparable to a 5.56 round), AK's - generally a 7.62 round, 30-30's, 30-06, .243's, .273's, .303's, etc..........and I believe mv only truly affects range. The heavier the round, the less range you have. Please note, I'm not an expert........this last paragraph is just my opinion.

You make good points. I'm no expert either. I do know MV is a major factor after cal.
