As long as we're in Fantasyland, could we trade Matthew Delladova for Kevin Durant?
Ha, I agree it's a long shot but talk about an amazing starting five
PG- Irving SG- Waiters SF- James PF- Love C- Embiid
That's a pretty big longshot ... you really think the Wolves are going to trade Kevin Love for Tristan and next year's first rounder? You don't think any other team in the league can beat that offer?
No I don't. My lineup was wishful thinking taken to the extreme.

Duncan is an all time great.
But how much better is he because of coming in with the Admiral and Pop?

Ok, in their best year. In their prime
You can have one or the other to build team around
Duncan or James??
We sort of have that with this years draft. Embiid or Wiggins? Although, if his back holds up, I think Embiid is a lot closer to Duncan than Wiggins is to Lebron. If we draft him, maybe we should bring in David Robinson to help mentor him.

I'd take Duncan. I don't think Lebron will play in his late 30's because of his style of play. It's also easier building around a big than a wing. Unless you're the Minnesota Timberwolves. Duncan is also extremely humble compared to Lebron. He takes criticism and coaching. He will play in whatever system that helps him win.

back to the Spurs.
I think it's awesome if they finish this series off and get that 5th title to really put a statement as to the best basketball franchise in the NBA. amazing what they have done about being consistently great for so long.

At 5 rings can we finally have a real discussion about how Pop might be the best coach in NBA history?

What?
11 > 5
Also, Red had 9 and Pat Riley has 5 too.

We should have a lot of conversations and that is one.. another is how the USA is not developing basketball players.. we are developing great athletes who can play some basketball but when faced with a disciplined team the team usually beats the individuals.. Other countries just generally don't have enough talent, all in one country, to compete with us in something like the Olympics... Plus we do have some that become good basketball players and LeBron James is one of them...
If I'm not mistaken, the entire Heat roster is American born.. while the Spurs roster is...
Duncan - Virgin Islands until College Parker - France Ginobili - Argentina Diaw - France Mills - Australia Splitter - Brazil Baynes - Australia Belinelli - Italy then they do have a handful of Americans, Green and Leonard being the two biggest contributors...
Much more humble group, much more willing to be coached, much more willing to play as a team... hard not to consider maybe it has something to do with the way American athletes are treated in HS, and recruited for college, and treated in college, and AAU ball, and all of the hype and me, me, me they go through for a decade before getting into the league... Just a thought.

if basketball players were judged more like baseball players (meaning their longevity factored in as much as their peak), then Duncan might be in the discussion for the first part of your equation.
what Tim has done and keeps doing is absolutely phenomenal and statements like yours above irk me.

I love Duncan, he's been my favorite player for years, he'll also be known as the best PF in the NBA. That said, he's got nothing on Jordan.

Don't get me wrong. Peak Jordan was the greatest to ever play the game (and peak Jordan was not stat-peak Jordan. It was when he learned to play within the confines of Phil's system and dominate that way).

So you penalize Phil for winning 6 titles with Jordan? He was still the coach. And the fact he won 5 other rings after Jordan should prove a lot too. And let's not pretend Duncan isn't one of the best players ever too (add in Manu and Tony for a great 3-headed monster).

I'm not sure what that matters. If you have one style or system that wins you 11 titles, why change?
I would think winning titles with different stars on different teams would carry more weight. And again, winning 11.
11.
...had to say that a 3rd time.

Less penalize, more taking it into consideration. Same way you would take Jerry Rice playing in the WCO. Would you penalize Spoelstra for having LBJ,DWade and Bosh playing for him?

Robert Horry won 10. The how is extremely important. Someone else mentioned Spoelstra. So if he wins more than 5 is he better than Pops too?

There are so many ways to look at it.
Like if you took this Cavs roster plus this #1 pick, who would you rather have coaching it going forward, Phil or Pops (assume both guys are younger and take age out of it)?
I'd take Pops, because I think he can do more with less. That doesn't necessarily mean he's better.
By the way, it's good that this board is back up. Missed typing out my thoughts here. Thanks to guys in charge for working hard to get it back up.
I haven't been able to watch as much of the finals as I have wanted to, but I've seen the extended highlight packages of all the games that I didn't see.
San Antonio is 2 gears ahead of Miami right now. The media is crushing the heat, but I really think they should be applauding San Antonio. The series has been more about their good play, than Miami's failures.

I don't think it's fair to say he has nothing on Jordan. Jordan played on the perimeter and thus had more control of the game.
Plus, if he finishes this off, that puts him at 5 rings. 10 All NBA team and 8 all defensive is unbelievable. They were all warranted too. I value those awards than the popularity contests that is all star voting..

I said it during the Indy/Miami series.. Miami's success had nothing to do with them, when Indy/SA played like crap, Miami won, when they did, Indy and SA won going away...
And it's not like Miami made either of them play like crap in those losses, Indy was HORRIBLE, and SA should of swept this series easily..

And you could have also said that Darko Milic won 1 title, so therefore, he's better than Carmello Anthony. And that would be just as silly. Nobody would say Horry is better than anyone because he has 10. He was a key role player, not a star.
Phil won his 11 with two different teams, but I'd argue it was with four "teams" in a way. Jordan+Pippen+Grant+Armstrong for his first 3-peat, Jordan+Pippen+Rodman+Kukuc for the second 3-peat, Kobe+Shaq for his third 3-peat and then Kobe+Pau for his last two titles. That's 4 different groups he coached on two teams for 11. I think that's a bit more impressive than Pop coaching the same three guys+some different role players under different systems for 5.
As for Spo and the Heat, I honestly don't remember anyone praising his coaching system or style. He roles the big three out in a weak conference and will probably end up going 2-2 in Finals. Had Pop left Duncan in last year before Allen's three, Spo should have lost last year.
Pop will go down as one of the all time greats. He's probably on the Mount Rushmore of NBA coaches with Phil, Red and Riles. But to say Pop was a better than those three is a stretch in my opinion.

File this under coulda shoulda woulda..
2011 they lose to Dallas.. 2012 if SA keeps it up (up 2-0 to OKC) and wins the West, I think they beat Miami they same way Dallas did, and they are this year..
PLUS stupid Indy up 2-1, and Boston up 3-2 IN BOSTON only helped Miami gain confidence to beat a not as good as everyone thinks OKC...
Heck there was talk if they lost to Indy that year about breaking up the Big 3 because it "didn't work"
However, the idea of Trading LeBron for Howard was just laughable..

Jordan is almost a ghost or a myth at this point.
No one will ever be deemed better than him, even if they are.
LeBron James is the best basketball player I've ever seen.
His tragic flaw is that he lacks killer instinct, or better put, the ability to turn it on and off. He does have it, and when he goes into his 'beast mode', he simply cannot be stopped, and it's amazing to watch.
The problem is, he doesn't have the ability to trigger it like a light switch. He gets lost in his own head too often.
He's gotten better as time has gone on, but you have to wonder if at this point he can get there.

A big part of it, I believe, is that he cares about what's being said outside of the game. Jordan and Kobe never cared, and if they did, it was almost like they were using it to their advantage.
Not everyone can be wired like that I guess. Lebron is definitely the most talented athlete I have ever seen.

Go look at Jordan's Basketball Reference page. It is scary good. And he played when defenses just killed people. He averaged 32/8/8 one season while shooting 54%.

Interesting ....... I guess. I do get the feeling that we're just hearing all of this stuff about Lebron possibly coming back just so the sporting world can laugh at our pain when he goes elsewhere again though. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-bask...rhaps-join-cavsHouston Rockets forward Chandler Parsons appeared on ESPN's SportsNation on Friday, and LeBron James was a topic of conversation. The Miami Heat are trailing the San Antonio Spurs 3-1 in the NBA Finals, and James can choose to opt out of his contract and become a free agent in July. There is, of course, much speculation about what he will do. "I think if they would've won the championship it would've been a different story and they would've came back to do it again," Parsons said, "but he's got so much responsibility -- he's obviously one of the best players, if not the best player -- so I think them losing will make him make a move and opt out, and you'll see him in a different jersey next year." Parsons was accused of trying to recruit James for the Rockets. "I just don't think he'll be back on the Heat," Parsons said. "I think he's done all he can do there and I think it's time for him to move on. "I can't see the Lakers," he continued. "I honestly can't. I could see him maybe going back to Cleveland. I could see that." Parsons already has a side career in modeling. Perhaps he has a future as a talking head on television, too.

I think it's possible, but even with what we have and our #1 pick, I still think they need to make one big move.
I don't think Kevin Love is realistic but he actually did shoot down a report that said he had no interest in playing for the Cavs. Which I thought was interesting. He didn't just deny it, but he also complemented the young group we have. Doesn't mean he's coming, but he could have easily taken the bland, vague road of saying he wasn't sure about his future.

I also have to wonder if a guy like Love doesn't decide to stay right where he is for one more year.
Bear with me for a second.
Any team that he would be traded to would have to give up major assets in oder to obtain him. That would weaken the rest of the team.
Take the Cavaliers, for example. They would probably have to give up the #1 overall pick, plus other pieces, in order to land Love.
However, if he plays out his deal, then the Cavaliers could add one more cornerstone piece, then add Love in the off-season. It could make his eventual destination that much stronger.
So, if he wanted to join the Cavaliers in a year ..... then it might be better to wait a year, and allow them to strengthen the rest of the team as much as possible ... then he could be the final piece of the puzzle.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

I think that it depends 100% on how reasonably a team trading for him could expect to re-sign him.
Even so ..... there are no guarantees.
I absolutely do not want to give up the #1 pick in a trade. I think that the talent available, combined with the financial side of the equation, make that pick in this draft too damn valuable. If it was last year's draft, then OK ..... but we could grab a potential upper level talent in this draft who would be locked in at an affordable salary for years.
Now I would give up next year's pick .... obviously.I don't know if that would get a deal done though.
I do think that Love can control where he goes just by saying whether or not he would re-sign with that team or not. No one will give up major assets if he sayd that he definitely won't re-sign with a particular team.

I believe he will be traded, even if it's just for picks, and some filler. No way will Minnesota just let him walk, when he told them, he's not coming back.
I believe the Sacramento Kings told the wolves they would trade for him, even if Love didn't sign an extension, or opt in for 1 more year.
The only way I would consider moving the pick, is if Love signed an extension, but even then, I wouldn't trade the pick. The number 1 pick I wouldn't include in any deal. That's why I think a package of Waiters, Bennett, and Tristian might be enough to grab Love. It's probably not the best package, but there's enough there, to make Minny pull the trigger. Probably will need another team in there to sweeten the pot.

Do you think Minnesota would consider Waiters? I mean I know he's not some future hall of famer, but it's better than nothing, and he would be a nice piece to restart at.
It would also free up the 2 guard spot for the Cavs, allowing them to play Parker or Wiggins at the two if they wanted to.
Don't get me wrong, this all seems far fetched, but it's fun to talk about.
If they could somehow pull of Waiters and other small pieces/future considerations for Love, then I would guarantee Lebron is coming back.
Irving Parker/Wiggins Lebron ? Love
You could have a few options at the 4. Depending on what you had to give up for Love... You could also move Love around if you want something tougher at center or you could leave him there. It would be like being handed the keys to a Lambo..

I would think so. Only thing that might scare them off is his attitude at times. Given more playing time, I think he would average close to 20 a night. His stats are comparable to Klay Thompson, who is also in the Love rumors. Just think Waiters gets a bad rap for being on a losing team.
I don't think the wolves will get a kings ransom. They didn't last time they traded Garnett. The nuggets did get some good players in the melo trade, but nobody that is going to make them win every year. I think an offer of Waiters, Tristan, Bennett and a first is pretty darn fair, when compared to the past megadeals..

I feel like Lebron has only two options:
1. Stay in Miami. 2. Come back to Cleveland.
From a legacy standpoint, I just don't see him playing for three teams in his career as I think that hurts his standing....that Lebron has to go from team to team to get his titles rather than staying in one place and allowing the talent to come to him.
Maybe we're just in a different era of the NBA where the players want to play with each other instead of against each other but all the "greats" played for one, maybe two teams.
The Cavs are in a great position with cap space, the #1 draft pick, young talent like Irving and Waiters. However, we have no coach and an owner who Lebron may still not like.
Miami will be going through some significant changes, and really only have Norris Cole and some other guy set to come back next year if the Big Three opt out. But Riley has worked his magic before, and could be a pain in the side of Cleveland if we pursue James hard this summer.
Again, I think it's Miami or Cleveland. I don't think he wants to be a player that has multiple team jerseys floating around the country...I think it will water down his legacy if he jumps to a third team for 2014-2015.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
