Really? The people who are saying and complaining about the "White guy" happen to be white guys. Also, I think it's rather funny that people still think Native Americans don't find that the term is racist. I ask you to go to any reservation and call those people Redskins instead of the coworker/classmate who used her 1/16th Cherokee blood as justification to wear a headdress to Coachella.

Yes, Italians and Irish were discriminated for a short period of time. And there are racist slurs for them, however, "white people" is not one of those terms.
Also why no one has complained about the Fighting Irish is because they're not called the Fighting Mickss.

I mean, wow. Guess white people know what it's like to have 50% of their population decimated in a conquest or were enslaved for 400 some years. All I was saying is that to suggest that certain parts of the white race have never been discriminated against is bogus. Simply not true.
I have a soft spot for native Americans as well. My grandma was full blooded Cherokee. I don't like the Redskins name either.
I just don't like some of the falsehoods being spread around about how the white race has never been discriminated against. Those are two separate issues to me.

You're kidding, right? You've never had any history lessons about, "Irish need not apply"? Did you ever read Jonathan Swift's 'A Modest Proposal'? How about Blazing Saddles, where the townspeople are getting help from the railroad workers, and he says, "We'll take the (African slur)s, the (Chinese slur)s, and the (Italian slur)s, but not the Irish"? There is a reason that there are so many Irish descent cops and firefighters in NY, Boston, and other northern cities. That's the only jobs those guys could get, and they kept it in the family. Oddly enough, being Irish for a day is popular now. All I have to tell you, if you are ever in the UK, don't make the mistake of calling someone Irish if they're not. Those are fighting words over there.

Well, I think you've solved it. As none of them are actually red, then it can't be a slur against them. The Redskins can keep their name without people complaining, as the name is obviously mythological, like the Giants.

Not sure if they do nor do I know if all Black people, Red people Brown people, or Yellow people know what's it's like. I think unless you have had it happen to you personally you may imagine what it is like but you truely have no knowledge of what it was like.
I think there's a fine line between joking about an ethniciy/race and continually putting down a ethnicity/race that's had their land stolen, totally disregarded by those who took over, and are continually made false promises....

It was really hard for the white race to come close exterminating the Native Americans, enslaving African Americans, and regulating the other minorities into poverty. In fact, I don't want to overstep my bounds, but I'd say it was harder on them to do that to the other races than it was for the other races...

Actually, the Spanish did that just by landing their boats here. It's been estimated that small pox wiped out 90% of the indigenous peoples before the Spanish even arrived in person.

I apologize to the Native Americans for tossing in a video about slavery that has little to do with them but I found it really neat.
Specifically the differences between Western slavery and slavery in the Middle East are fascinating. The Middle East basically castrated all the males and death marched the women across the Sahara to be concubines. The US only had around 400-450k slaves which have given birth to the majority of the current 40 million African Americans.
I find this guy does a great job of being empirical and historically accurate on a number of subjects.

You do realize that during the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries that African Slave ships raided Great Britain and Europe and took millions of whites as slaves? Men were used for labor and women for pleasure. This was long before African slaves were brought to America.

Racism is a belief that one group is superior, discrimination is acting on that belief..
And if you think certain groups of white people weren't discriminated against in this country or didn't face racism because of their nationality or religious beliefs then I would just have to say we disagree.

That's the point I was making with my last post. It doesn't matter if the intent to offend was there or not when the name/logo was created. Just because the intent wasn't there X years ago doesn't mean you get a pass now.
If your name or logo is offensive now, that's all that matters.
And again, I'm not on the "it's offensive and it must be changed" bandwagon. I get both sides of this discussion. If Snyder wants to keep it, then let him. Only when public support of the team and advertising dollars start dropping will he change it.

Yes, that is exactly it. It's the PC generation looking for something that offends them, so they can apply it as something that offends others. The PC crowd can find a slight in anything, and goes to bat for those that are 'injured' by that slight, even though those people never thought it offensive.
