http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000...leveland-browns Quote:
The Cleveland Browns have their quarterback of tomorrow under lock and key.
The team on Tuesday announced that No. 22 overall pick Johnny Manziel has agreed to terms on his rookie deal.
The former Texas A&M star will enter training camp pitted against veteran Brian Hoyer in a battle to win the team's starting-quarterback job.
While Mike Pettine said that Hoyer was securely ahead of Manziel coming out of last week's mandatory minicamp, Cleveland's first-year coach called the space between the two passers hardly "insurmountable."
Around The League will have more to come on Manziel's deal with the Browns.
In the latest edition of the "Around The League Podcast," the heroes discuss which teams "realistically" have no shot at winning the Super Bowl this season.

I didn't like the pick, but it is pretty exciting to have a QB that sooo many think will do well. I am glad we got him on board. Cant be worse than what we have had in the past.

The only two Browns draft picks still unsigned are No. 8 overall pick Justin Gilbert and No. 35 overall pick Joel Bitonio.

Anyway,, quick question. Given that this is tuesday and this incident with the "MONEY PHONE" took place over last weekend, could it be that Johnny was celebrating his contract? I mean, he had to know it was coming right?
Someone hands me 4 million, I'm calling everyone I know on my new "MONEY PHONE" LOL

I thought the very same thing... I know if I had just signed for a minimum of 6.7 million I would be as s*** faced as I could get. I get excited when I pay my bills and have $20 left over.
Hey at least it wasnt a car phone, or I hope he had enough sense to get a driver

I don't think so. I think he has money and likes to show off. I also think since he has money just proves he is in football for the fun and love of the game. not a bad thing but..... wonder what he will do if it isn't fun anymore? isn't like he needs the money.
came across a article about the manziel family.

Wow, the way you talked about it, I thought I was going to read a story about how Johnny or his parents were worth a billion.. Unless I just misread that article, I'd say his mom and dad aren't worth much more than a million or so.. that's really not a lot of money today..

All people make choices. You can choose to hang with only close friends and family which will keep you under the radar. You can also choose to run the party circuit which will most certainly keep you in the limelight. Putting yourself out there or not is a clear cut choice.
Johnny Football has made his.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

you better do it in disguise. volunteering at a soup kitchen is time that you should be spending preparing for the NFL season. you aren't getting better while dishing out soup!

Calling Johnny Manziel: Ex-Browns QB Brady Quinn is criticizing behavior in ‘money phone’ video
“I always revert back to [Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl-winning quarterback] Russell Wilson only because he’s so young. He’s been so successful, but you see all the time his good works. When he’s out there on camera or out there on Twitter, whatever it is, he’s at a hospital with sick kids, giving them gifts, trying to brighten up their day. That’s the kind of role model I want for my franchise, and I don’t understand why [Manziel] can’t interject more of it into his life. He’s got such a following. So then try to do it in a positive way to help kids who are sick or people who are homeless, whatever it is, but just try to do it in a more positive manner.”

Advice on how to carry yourself from this guy........ Although, honestly, Quinn does have a point. Whether Johnny likes it or not, he probably could be considered the face of the Browns to the average football fan. I'd like to see him making a difference in folks lives. I don't think he can take command of the team, the way Russell Wilson did because Manziel comes to a team that already has a QB who was the starter last season. Hoyer is the leader at this point. But it would be nice if Johnny took a weekend off or maybe visited a children's hospital or something. He wants to lead these guys, he's gonna have to start acting like a bit more like an adult. That's gonna be part of it. I understand Manziel wants to have fun, but the guy's are gonna have to take him seriously. I mean how does Alex Mack or Joe Thomas look at him when they see a video of him with a wad of cash to his ear, lol. EDIT: Some of my hopes have been answered, Johnny Football spent the day (June 17) with kids at the zoo. Suck On That Brady Quinn!

Quinn needs to go crawl back into the hole from which he crawled. Why does he keep commenting about Manziel and what he should be doing? Hey Brady worry about your own house and how you're going to pay the bills in your post football career.

I never really liked BQ. Saw him too much around town being a jerk here in south bend. Still he grew up a Browns fan and has just as much right to voice his concerns as the rest of us. He also has a fair point =)

Yeah, I was in the vicinity of him on several occasions in bars, and the guy was always an ass and a loser.
That's the main reason why I roll my eyes at his Manziel comments - he was a classless tool.
But strip the messenger...I agree with the message.
Manziel worries me with his behavior...not from a character standpoint, or because I fear he'll get in legal trouble...but more because he's always seemed to me like an idiot, and you can have Pro Bowl idiots at a lot of positions, but QB isn't one.
He's increased my fears about his intelligence, aptitude and self-awareness.

PDR…Big Ben and Favre, off the top of my my head, would disagree with your take that you can't have "idiot's" per se at QB. Each experienced blunders from both a social and legal standpoint and neither situation contributed to hindering their performance on the field. Heck, a great deal of the NFL greats have checkered off-field issues, but still performed on gameday. I don't believe Manziel's off-field antics directly correlate to his future success.
In the end, time will tell.

jc...
Manziel is just being a boy...right?
Problem is, someone needs to get it through his thick skull that he is now a member of a "Professional" football team and what he does and says in public is (indirectly) a reflection upon the organization he is a member of...the one that pays him.
Most people in his position would already get it...obviously, Johnny boy hasn't got a clue.
Bottom line, JM is a direct reflection upon his parents and the values they taught him growing up.

Yeah, plenty of QBs have been big-time party guys.
As you mentioned, Big Ben and Farve hit the town a lot. Joe Namath, Kenny Stabler, Jim McMahon, Eli Manning, Jay Cutler, and Sonny Jurgenson are guys who have done okay in the NFL and were known party guys.
With that being said, I am a little concerned about Manziel's behavior. I get that he is young and wants to have fun. On the other hand, I was hoping that he would take winning the starting job seriously and that he would be studying the playbook and getting into the best possible condition in order to do so.
I am not saying that he shouldn't have any fun, but it seems like that he is focusing on having fun a bit too much and he is not spending enough time doing what he needs to do in order to become the best he can be.

Exactly.. none of us have ever signed multi-million dollar deals but we all have opinions on it. None of us have ever played OG in the NFL but we all have opinions on it.. Brady Quinn may have been an arse and he may have been a subpar NFL QB but he has name recognition, he was at one point the Browns big QB of the future... so who better to comment on Manziels behavior? At least he's been there.
