Well, nothing to see here folks.

Let's ask our resident experts about whether any of the information on the hard drives could have been recovered?

These folks should be tried for treason and if convicted, taken to the gallows to face a public execution.

But, I will say this much, no charges will be (and I'll add - shouldn't be) brought against them just yet. There shouldn't be any chance that this tyrannical naked emperor should be given an opportunity to hand out any pardons to them.

Let his successor deal with these administration officials, when he can't hand out any pardons.

When the story about the IRS inhibiting tax exempt status for conservative organisations first hit, we were told it was the brainchild of some "low-level" field office employees in Cincinnati. As the story came out, it became clear that it was a Washington DC initiative that reached the top of the IRS, and maybe the White House. Do I think the President, or his aides would be so careless as to send emails discussing the politicization of the IRS? No. But Lerner's subsequent emails may very well have discussed the White House role in this. For her emails and hard drives to be missing is pretty alarming and suspicious. To those here that want to marginalize this story, I'd just remind you that the 2nd article of impeachment against Richard Nixon was for attempting to politicize the IRS - ie; to use it as an arm for his administration against political opponents. If anyone doesn't think preventing fundraising by organizations that support your opponent is "politicizing the IRS", they might want to think a little harder.

Email does not only exist on the PC, it's also on the email server. The email server is backed up, and the back up server is also backed up. After that backup, most data is sent to a disaster recovery site. I'm so tired of this government lying to us, not because they are lying, but because they are lying as if we're all a bunch of moronic peons. My company is required by law to keep emails and other data for 3-5 years depending on the data.

Is anyone else tired of being treated like a serf?

It's time to abolish the IRS, as it's obvious that they can be used as a weapon. I'd much rather pay a consumption tax or a flat tax. The IRS will never allow any citizen to claim their HD crashed, and they lost their emails. This lie is little more than, "my dog ate my homework".

I also love the liberal response to this, as they are too stupid to see that this could one day be used against them too.

I wondered the same thing. Which is why we have rules about posting links I think, so that we all can follow what is going on. We don't all read the same propaganda sites, so knowing the subject matter can be difficult.

The story of the IRS targeting conservatives broke over a year ago. The 'lost/crashed/missing/the dog ate my data' hard drive story just came out last Friday.

You guys should keep up. Do you often allow yourselves to be screwed without getting kissed first?

Excellent overall post.

However, to the quote above...what government agency would police/enforce the collection of the consumption/flat tax? People will not suddenly become honest and forthright just because the tax has a new name.

Just throwing that out there...I won't respond further so as to not derail the thread.

Quite simply, a consumption tax is enforced when anything is purchased, much like the sales taxes we've all come to hate. It's just a federal sales tax we will all come to hate.

A flat tax, let's say 10%, would be calculated and taken from your pay. You make $100K, you pay $10K. Everyone knows what they pay before it goes to the tax agency.

The current IRS has around 80,000 tax rules and regulations that they don't even understand. Loopholes are lobbied for and given to those rich enough to have lobbyists. Either system simplifies the tax codes and makes the system more fair. The IRS could be reformed and cut down to just the necessary personnel to assure everyone is paying their share, either 10% or their sales tax. The best benefit is no more tax forms, much less worries on April 15th, almost no audits for the majority of us, and much less chance of corruption. Of course, the 16th Amendment will have to be removed from the Constitution.

I won't get into my opinion of the flat/consumption tax here.

The bottom line is that there will STILL be an IRS to police/collect the money. A new tax structure will not eliminate the IRS or its power. Our 'leaders' aren't going to give up that power regardless of the tax structure.

The law-breakers must be held accountable...period. Yet we know they will not.

I'll take it a step further than that.

I would suggest that those who would defend ANYTHING this administration does in violation of the Constitution should keep in mind that he won't be there forever. There are elections this fall and then again in two years. Certainly, a great deal of damage can be done in that time, but when political opponents are in power, the shoes can be put on the other feet. Let's put it this way, it could be Joseph McCarthy and Nixon combined, times 100. We're at McCarthy & Nixon, times 50 already.

Look at the first post in this thread and tell me where someone that wasn't aware of the IRS thing with Lerner would have a clue what this was about. I'm no expert, but I bet that's why we are required to have links to things.

Anyway, whoever said that the IRS should be dismantled (or whatever term was used) had it mostly right. You still need some portion of it to collect whatever form of income the Federal Government needs.

If it's a flat tax, someone has to account for it. If it's a consumption tax, again, someone needs to account for it. However it's decided, it still needs some entity to keep an accounting.

But they certainly don't need any more than 10% of the current staffing levels to handle it.

Ok. It looks like the IRS was trying to determine the charitable status of the NAACP, Greenpeace, and others. Considering that the IRS has been used illegally (allegedly) by FDR, JFK, Nixon, Clinton, GW Bush, and Obama, it should be dissolved and a less corruptible taxing organization put in place. I would suggest a consumption or flat tax.

Let's recap: About a year ago, the IRS was looked into for treating conservative PAC's differently (more scrutiny) than liberal PAC's.

We were told that it was "a", or "a few" low level IRS employees from Cincinnati that did it - no higher ups had ANY clue about what was going on.

The story didn't just go to the back burner, it was put in the sink and washed.

Now, after requesting e-mails from Lerner for a furthering of the investigation - and the IRS saying they won't supply them, we find out that Lois Lerners hard drive crashed, and, doggone it, those e-mails don't exist..........we then find out 6 more employees had the same cotton picking problem. Dumb computers - nuts. Then, we find out Lois Lerners hard drive was recycled - in a metal shredder.................

We then find out that even though backups of backups of backups exist for everything - this time they apparently didn't.

It does seem odd, doesn't it?

Throw in the pleading of the 5th when she was questioned by congress - and it makes you wonder, doesn't it? It's just a little ironic that Lois's computer, and 6 others, had this problem and there's no trace of these e-mails.

I do think there should be exceptions to the 5th when it comes to government officials answering questions about government problems they were involved in creating. This is one of the times the Constitution is working against the people. I guess we have to take the good with the bad.

This woman was a government employee, and if she did nothing illegal, as she stated, she should have no problem testifying. Government officials should be made to answer to their employers, the people.

The cover up of the 'lost' data and emails should be criminally investigated. There should be plenty of servers, backups, and other ways to retrieve this data. If the FBI can get data from burned hard drives, they should be able to find these emails.

This is why the two party system sucks. These politicians aligned with the president see the president breaking the law, and they will never vote to impeach him. They should all be kicked out of office, and we should start over with new representatives.

Absolutely not. It's actually well documented. They investigated due to political statements made by the members of the NAACP, Greenpeace, and others.

The cover-up is always worse than the crime, although with this particular regime, it seems like the actions are always intentionally criminal. There is nothing on the straight and narrow about this group. Kleptocrats, every damned one of them.

Nearly all of you have some sort of an inkling why my handle is what it is.

We don't need to simply replace these people. We need to remove the laws that they enact. Period.
