I think for whatever reason, Banner ticked off Haslam.. I think Jimmy lost faith in Banner and by proxy, Lombardi (if he ever really had any faith in him to begin with)
When that happens, it's just better to part ways.. And Haslam made that happen.
I believe it will be for the better in the long run, but only time will tell..

If anything, I guessed it was the opposite.
I think Lombardi was the one that pissed off Haslam. Officially, Lombardi was the one that got fired, and Banner left. Now, we all know what that it means Banner was basically fired, but was allowed to save some face, but the difference is still significant.
Having an up-and-comer GM-guy (Farmer) who's being pulled away to another team, along with Lombardi being a dolt led to Jimmy making an exec decision. Banner (who brought Lombardi in) saw the writing on the wall and left/was asked to leave.

Could very well be the truth.. Dunno. But in either case, Haslam lost faith in those guys and they are gone. I really think it's that simple.
EDIT: had a thought after I posted this. The other thing that may have happened or at least contributed to their termination (or whatever its called) could have been the overwhelming feeling that the team was being run by the three stooges after firing Chud and his staff.
I'm sure that Turner going off on Haslam, Banner and Lombardi with the comments we've heard about didn't (Couldn't) go over well with Haslam.
that might have been the day that Haslam made his decision but decided not to rock the boat until he got a HC.

I don't think they were dismissed for doing a poor job per se, but rather he didn't like the way we were headed and decided he liked Ray Farmer.
No matter, I am much happier with the current set up of coaches and FO staff.
I think Pitt asked a good question. I don't believe Banner/Lombardi did a terrible job, and I don't think it was well oiled machine. After all they fired the coaching staff after one year. It is obvious there was some disagreements.
If I had to guess, I believe it boiled down to they couldn't all agree. I think the three had fundamental differences deciding who best should lead this team. I'll bet it started getting political, and Haslam decided it is better hiring people who see the same vision.
After Banner and Lombardi were dismissed. I felt real sorry for Pettine. He had to think this was going to get real ugly real fast. Hopefully him and Farmer do see things the same. Otherwise, it won't be long before we see another change.
I never understood what Banner saw in Lombardi. There were some real good up and coming GM's. Maybe Banner felt comfortable having a experience GM. Lombardi must know something it didn't take Belichick long to hire him.
I guess the next question is how many think Pettine and Farmer make a good team? So far both parties are talking a nice game. What happens when this team struggles? Who makes the decision when Manziel starts? I think it is 50/50 this works.

Yeah, I should've been more clear by putting heavy emphasis on the word 'guessed'.
I don't think the whole 'Three Stooges' thing entered into Haslam's mind, because, according to the reporter, Haslam himself was one of the Stooges.
I also think that, if the offseason ridiculousness had begun and ended with Chud getting canned, we would still have Banner and Lombo in Berea. The fact that the circus didn't end, even months after Chud was gone, showed Haslam that there was still more cleaning to do.
Banner did good stuff while he was here, but I'm also happy for my team that he was shown the door. He came in here with the reputation of being an ego-maniacal, I'm-smarter-than-everyone, control-freak and he did nothing to dispute that.

Okay, I'll play. Lombardi was and is known to be a snake.
Provide proof, or shut the hell up.
Dang, I am so sick of guys like you and Memphis who post BS lies and try to act like you are reasonable. Prove that he was a snake. Or, shut the hell up!!!!
You are the same guys who had ZERO problem with Holmgren saying stupid stuff about playoff tickets and you are either for us or against us. You didn't criticize him saying that he woke up that morning and decided to fire Mangini. You had no problem w/him hiring guys who shared the same agent as he did, ETC, ETC. .....
We don't bring this up until you hypocrits start w/your BS. Sick of hearing your BS. It's over. All of them are gone. Leave it alone.

I wont say Lombardi was a snake because I have no proof, nor have I ever heard that. He was however an ass. I know that for a fact. You know better than anybody else on the board Vers that I hated him being hired and I was not fond on the Banner hire either. However I have given Banner probs where he deserved them, as I have to eat some crow and say he did a better job than I thought he would. However I believe Farmer will do a much better job that Joe ever could. But Lombardi did very little to nothing to help the Browns.

Everyone knows how I felt about Banner and Lombardi. So I won't rehash all of that. But I do have one simple question for those who are upholding them......
If they were making such great decisions, if the FO was working like a well oiled machine.......
Why were they given their pink slip after only one season? Do some of you feel you know what was actually going on behind the scenes and how well they were doing more than the man who signs their paychecks?
I think Jimmy saw the writing on the wall with Farmer. He saw the potential in him as a young executive... However, if he wanted him to have this job, it had to be now. It's just my opinion but I believe Jimmy gave him the job well before it was announced. I cannot see any other situation where another team would be handing him a GM job (Miami) and he just turns it down? I mean, we're still the Browns, and we still aren't exactly desirable (yet).
Jimmy had no choice but to do it the way it went down. It was either that or see what Banner does, and possibly be looking for another leader in a year or two.
He made the right choice if you ask me. Everyone sees Farmer as this up and coming guy.
Yup, and if the wheels fall off this regime, Jimmey can say, they were all Banner's guys.

IMO Lombardi is a snake. I don't think I can get a picture of him sheading his skin... so what. I think he is a snake. It was reported years after the fact, that he was rumored to be the one who talked Modell into cutting Kosar. Don't like me calling him a snake? Tuff, I don't care what you think. You prove he's not a snake. You want to shut me up? Make Me!

LOL....Kosar got cut because he punched Belicheck.....no, I can't prove it because it was never reported and I wasn't there, but that is the word.
You are all bent out of shape over Lombardi because of Bernie....lol.....you are still stuck on Bernie?

Riddle me this GM....What's the difference between a snake and an a**? You, of all people on here, ought to know what a low life double talking scum bucket he is. He came on board and all of a sudden there's rumors flying around, stories being leaked, in-fighting between him and banner. That's the way it was when he was here the first time. I really did not think they would bring him in the second time, his reputation being what it was. Now I guess that Haslem had to learn the hard way. There are no cold hard facts when describing people, it's all a matter of opinion. You know the old adage You can't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.

It was also reported that Modell did not want to cut Kosar because he was a fan favorite. Belichick turned to Lombardi for help and he convinced Modell to side with the coach. This is the first time that I have heard of BK punching him, I've heard that he took a swing, but no harm was done.

I've never heard anything like that.
Kosar got cut because he angered Belichick after eschewing a called play for his own audible (which scored a TD, by the way).
This has been widely reported for years, and confirmed by Ozzie.

Ok...swing....good enough. The wussy couldn't even hit his mark. Trust me, trying to punch your coach is a reason to get cut, and I like Bernie, but I would have sided with the coach as well.
We all like Bernie, but the guy screwed up. You don't take a swing at the head coach. Go to work tomorrow and take a swing and not your boss, but his or her boss over some disagreement.....see how that works out.

I didn't like the Lombardi hire because of his resume and the attention he brought. The leaks that seemed to follow everywhere he went. I simply thought he stunk as a GM everywhere he went and had been out of the league for years. None of it made any sense to me.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
