I just really hope this doesn't end with Wiggins for Love...that would be a truly terrible move .... if you want to compete for years you need quality parts that are cheap. Can't win multiple rings with three maxes, and nobody else.

so the max will be 20.6, and we just cleared 24, plus we created a trade exception which we can take on salary..this can't be coincidence

10:44 a.m. Sam Amico at Fox Sports says the deal clears about $24 million off the cap. Jack had two years left on his contract, with the third year a team option.

In deal, Cavs create trade exception for themselves. Clears about $24 mil off cap. Falls in line w what I reported: Cavs very active, upbeat

β€” Sam Amico (@SamAmicoFSO) July 9, 2014

Wow! That's a huge amount coming off the books.

I wonder what the trade exception will be. I admit that I am not as up on the NBA cap rules as I might be on the NFL.

I love the aggressiveness the Cavs are showing, but man if LeBron screws us again, this is going to be devastating.

My heart tells me LeBron is coming back, but I felt the same way 4 years ago. My gut tells me he is using us for leverage. I really hope I am wrong.

Is it possible Kyrie backs out of his verbal agreement if LeBron goes elsewhere and our roster is now gutted? There really isn't much else out there as far as top level talent. These moves could set us back big time. Fingers crossed that the Cavs brass is working on sometime of confirmation and not just speculation.

So wait .... this creates $20 million in cap space this year?

Plus the cap space we already had?

Holy cow! We better be moving on something major here. lol

Plus ..... we still have that $10 million non-guaranteed contract we can trade next year.

Cleveland Cavaliers make three-team trade to create cap space for LeBron James: Report | cleveland.com
http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2014/07/cleveland_cavaliers_make_three.html#incart_m-rpt-1

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- At 10:13 a.m. on Wednesday morning Jarrett Jack sent a three-word tweet: I got news.

It turns out it was a three-team trade involving the Cleveland Cavaliers, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics that Jack was alluding to.

The trade can't be completed until Thursday when a league-wide moratorium on signings and trades is lifted, but it's a deal for Cleveland to create enough salary cap space to offer LeBron James the maximum contract that he covets this off-season.

When the deal goes through, the Cavs will create more than $21 million in cap space. A max deal for James would take $20.7 million.

The Cavs sent Jack and Sergey Karasev, the No. 19 pick in last year's NBA Draft, to the Brooklyn Nets. The Cavs also traded former first rounder Tyler Zeller and a 2016 first-round pick to the Boston Celtics.

Jack, who has three years remaining on his contract, is owed $6.3 million during the 2014-15 season.

James' agent Rich Paul met with representatives for the Cavs last week. James is scheduled to have a face-to-face meeting with Miami president Pat Riley today in Las Vegas.

Thats my thought...ray allen with blatts offense would be pretty special..but I can't see Allen signing anywhere that he didn't have a chance at a ring..

No, I'm pretty sure that is referring to $24 million guaranteed coming off the books. It only opens $10 million in cap space this year. Not sure why it was phrased that way.

How much would it take to turn the Cavaliers into that team though?

I am being serious here.

If they got Lebron, and brought along Allen ...... then also added Love (or Bosh, as PDR once opined) then I would like this team as well as, or probably even better than the Heat team from last year. We would still be missing a true Center, as the Heat did last year, but we would have a Big 3 in Irving, Lebron, and Bosh or Love ....... and much, much better depth than the Heat had last year. We also have room to improve in the future, and an owner who is willing to spend deep into the luxury tax (as he did when Lebron was here)

I would hate to give up Wiggins ...... but if Bosh would come with Lebron .... we could have Wiggins to go along with Lebron, Irving, and Bosh. That could be huge.

Man .... lotta possibilities. Who knows what will really happen .... but it is fun to speculate what could be ......

I don't think Allen is coming unless he knows Lebron is coming. Especially if the report that it would be at the vet minimum is true. Ray Allen might be old but he can still play and still get a nice, albeit short term deal.

I'm not ok with giving up Wiggins.

Ill wait Minnesota out, trade deadline, they aren't going to get great offers from teams he'd wanna resign with...

Then I'd just sign him next year without giving anything up..

You can have Dion, TT, Bennett, take your pick.. plus all the 1sts you want.. not Wiggins..

Rumor from 850's Tony Rizzo that the cavs have an offer in for Kevin love that does include Andrew Wiggins.

I'm pretty sure rizzo's source is dan himself, and he's been spot on with cavs info.

I hate losing Wiggins as well. But I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that we just traded away our only true center left in Zeller. They better have a legit plan to fill that hole. And a backup plan should LeBron stay in Miami. Man, If he does... what are looking like? Who are we driving hard at? We needed Bigs at the end of the season and now we're down 2 more.

That's a big role of the dice. If we're not in the finals next year then you'd have to say it 's a big fat fail.

Sources indicate the Cavs are also in pursuit of free agent James Jones, who can stretch the floor--& just happens to be LeBron favorite.

If you have to give up Wiggins to get Love, so be it. I don't see any way around it to be honest. Thompson, Waiters, and Bennett just aren't that valuable. They are filler at best in trades involving a player of Love's Caliber. Pretty sure Love was behind only Durant and Lebron last year in win shares.

I would of course only do it if Lebron had already signed and Love signed an extension, but you have to pull all the stops out to get an Irving, Love, Lebron combo. That is a better situation than Miami because Irving and Love are better fits around Lebron, younger, and quite frankly better at this stage of their careers. Cavs would still have a lot of assets going forward to surround them with quality pieces (a good defensive center would be a good place to start.)

And let's not forget that for as badly as the Heat got ran off the floor in games 3, 4, and 5... the model of 3 superstars + role players has worked out pretty well the last 4 years. They beat the Spurs the year before, and OKC the year before that when they had Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka, and Harden. 12-0 in Eastern playoff series the last four years. If only the old Cavs model of Lebron + 'good' role players were so successful...

Could be a solid plan B.

This might be good news ... I'm assuming we can back out of the deal if our, ahem, "free agent plans" don't work out as expected. That's quite a bit to give up if we aren't getting certain players.

All these rumors are just nuts though.

I am happy that they have a plan B.

In the past if / when lebron ( or anyone for that matter) snubbed them they looked like they were holding their Johnson in their hands wondering what to do next.

I wouldn't know their GM from Adam but dang ya gotta like the agression, the plan(s) and th desire to swing for the fences.

Course it might still all blow up in which case its fences minus the N.

Irving, Wiggins, Parsons is a solid group going forward...

If we get James, and trade for Love, I'd really look hard at a guy like Blatche...

If they have to settle for "Plan B" after trading three pretty good assets for nothing, then this is a disaster.

"Plan B" is freaking Trevor Ariza.

My guess is that the trade doesn't go through unless Plan A happens. I would think they would have some contingencies in there, especially since the trade can't officially go through until Thursday.

BTW in the trade.. The Cavs received the draft rights to Ilkan Karaman, Christian Drejer and Edin Bavcic.

Of which none will likely be signed...

We were going to dump Jack regardless of LeBron...

I don't see how people are getting this worked up over Zeller and Karasev...

Jack has negative value but I otherwise agree.. losing Karasev and especially Zeller for no good reason would be a setback.

I think fans underestimate the role of contracts on trade value. The Cavs acquired a great many assets the last few years by taking on salary/bad contracts. Now it goes a little bit in the other direction. I'm sure if they could get a better deal from another team, they would.

I think it's that we gave them up for nothing at all. If it doesn't work with us getting Lebron, it looks bad.
