Me either. Any first round pick should be the best pick or near equal to the best pick in the draft for that team.
To me, flyers start in the 4th round. The first three rounds need to be quality picks. Not an area to take chances.
I understand what you are saying, but to a degree, you are always taking a greater risk with a qb drafted early, so I also understand the "flier" comment.

I believe in the kid. Everyone sees those runs and think that is all it is with this kid but he is actually a really good passer and made tremendous strides from his first year to his 2nd and he won the heisman in that first year lol.
He can go through his progressions while running around. Most of his running around, isnt about gaining yards but gaining more time for receivers to get open. He is also freakishly accurate while throwing on the run . Add in the fact that his arm strength improved from freshemen to soph to pro day and u have the making of a good QB and thats not even taking into consideration his intagibles which are off the charts.

I think that Manziel will be able to pick up the offense fairly quickly, because as someone pointed out recently, he was in the WCO when Tannehill was at A&M.
Now he will struggle reading defenses and such until he gains experience. Not on every down, but teams will throw stuff at him to see how he handles it. They wil constantly mix things up and force him to figure them out. It happens to every rookie QB.
I do think/hope that he wil be able to handle it. He seems driven, and with an ego as huge as he has, I think that he is one of those guys who will just refuse to lose. We'll have to see how it actually turns out on the field though.

I'm not sold on JM as of yet, I have a 'wait and see' approach to how well he will do in the NFL.
...All this anticipation is exciting though.
We are overdue for another decent season....Keep your fingers crossed.

I Havent seen much of him but what I have seen make me think he can see the field very well. This is one thing that made Bernie great. Peripheral vision and ability to understand what he is seeing during plays.

Browns playbook is Manziel's first
A tiny item caught my eye amid the hoopla about media access and Johnny Manziel's first practice weekend with the Cleveland Browns.
It came from Peter King of Sports Illustrated, who pointed out that the playbook (on a tablet) that Manziel received from the Browns was the first one he had been given in his football career. At Texas A&M, King wrote, Manziel ran a group of plays given to him from week to week.

being a browns fan is like taking your dog to vet every week to be put down...

2 reasons. The rules are set up to benefit a team to take a player later than the 1st 10 picks, I think by allowable length of the 1st contract. 2nd. The main reason, the main reason Anyone, Any Year, goes at a particular point in the NFL draft is because the NFL is such a wonderfully specialized game. It's the reason the NFL draft will not be surpassed by another sports draft. It's because there are so many specialized positions and each of arguable importance on the football field / team, that have to be filled by each team in the draft. It is not just a Quarterbacks, Runningbacks, and Tight ends draft. So Just because you are trying to acquire the best in the world, along with everyone else, they might be trying to acquire the best in the world at a whole other part of the game, like pass rusher. I'll make the argument, that if one would take the NBA draft for example, that everything that goes on on their court, all of the specialized players, could be found in just the deep part of an NFL passing play. That if you take all of the Free safeties, Strong Safeties, Cornerbacks, and Wide Receivers, and the talents they bring, and the things they have to do on passing plays, or an average play for that matter; that that small part of an NFL roster has an equal number of specialized requirements as what an NBA roster has. Then, the large amount of specialized positions that have to be filled by teams in an NFL draft means that some teams are using picks without even consideration of the group a player is trying to be the best in the world at. So someone could go 22, and be the top 1 or 2 at their job. Even if someone else, of a different specialty went maybe 10th, or 11th, and was the 3rd or 4th best at their job. Simply on the needs of the rosters of the teams, or the opinions of very fallible men who make picks. Or even the Whims of the moment! And then, the greatness of a player is even in the balance of so many variables, including the opportunities to play, each unique to the team, the year, the coaches, the environment, the teammates, the opponents, ( shoot! even the current rules of the game, Note Eric Turners playing style in 1994 would = suspension in 2014.) And Josh Cribbs would be a footnote in history if he were to play a few years from now and the NFL perhaps decides to no longer have kicking plays. He went so low because he's a selfish Pre-Madonna.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Well .... Manziel was a redshirt freshman, and a member of the travel squad in 2011 ...... when A&M ran the WCO with Tannehill under Mike Sherman.
I don't know how much he actually got into the offensive playbook. Being part of the travel team would seem to indicate that he knew the offense to at least some small degree though.

To me the key isn't Johnny for this draft. If we get 2 above average starters and at least one other role player it's a good draft. That's an above average draft despite what most people think. Wishful thinking but I would hope this FO gets to at least year 3. I think it's fair that given where Johnny was taken, risks/potential and that we got an extra first out of it as long as Gilbert and someone else pans out I think the FO would get another shot at a bigtime QB in 2016.
As many have said if Johnny was picked at 4 and failed the FO would be gone but getting Gilbert, a 1st then Johnny protects them. Now if GIlbert is a bust along with Johnny.....two years max. But with Haden as a mentor, the perfect system for him and a good head on his shoulders I find his probability of success fairly high. Plus all our other picks were relatively safe picks. Not much boom but they'll probably stick through their contracts at least.

I agree. I also think that with Bitonio starting between Mack and Thomas as well as Gilbert.. the front office should be covered for at least two more years. I think both will be above avg starters, so it gives Johnny a chance to mature.

Sure Bitonio brings it with Thomas. JF looks like he is going crash and burn leaving us in the dust. Hopefully, Hoyer plays well and JF is insignificant this year. Maturity is a long way off for this young man.

photo of a guy in a grey t either rolling or straightening a bill equates to horse crap. I dont know it is him in the photo and dont know what the person is doing in the photo. I have a photo of a dog driving my truck, here is a secret, he wasnt really driving my truck.
One thing i am certain of is that Johny partied in college during the offseason and was the charismatic leader when the games began. His teammates loved him and I think all the scrutiny he is getting now will do nothing but endear him to the vets that have been part of a media feeding frenzy.
I dont really think Hoyer has a chance to beat him out. Few weeks of camp, we will see what happens.

I see Hoyer starting unless his knee isn't 100%, then it's Johnny Football up to bat.
And if Maziel starts this town will go nutso if we pull off a win with our first game against the Steelers. Perhaps that is just wishful thinking, but it would be most awesome.
Hell, it would be awesome if Hoyer did it too! Set the tone for the season: WIN.
