COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? A 14-year-old boy who was throwing eggs at cars along with two other teenagers was shot and killed by someone who had been in a sport-utility vehicle that was hit, police said.

Danny Crawford was killed by a gunshot wound to his upper body, Franklin County Coroner Brad Lewis said. He died in an alley on the city's west side early Saturday, authorities said.

The teens were throwing eggs at cars when an SUV that was struck chased them, Detective Tim Huston said. The vehicle stopped and several gunshots were fired, he said.

Police were looking for the shooter, who fled in the SUV, Sgt. Dana Norman said. The SUV believed to be involved was found a short time later near where Crawford died.

The other teens were not hurt, police said.

That's one way to teach kids respect. Bet ya those kids don't commit vandalism again in their lives. Hit the car on the windshield and it could cause the driver to swerve and a major accident. Stupid kids.

You never did anything dumb when you were 14? I did, I'm just damn glad is was 25 years ago when people were a little more sane.

One problem is now, if I did drag them home by their ears, I'd probably get sued, and maybe even charged with battery. If someone had dragged me home to my father by the ear, dear Dad would have promptly grabbed the other ear and whooped me soundly.

Nothing that could harm anyone but myself. throwing things at cars is one of the most dangerous things on the planet, egg also damages cars. The other kids should be beaten severely.

Yeah , you're right the consequence for egging a car should be death . I don't know which is more stupid ,shooting the kid or spewing crap like that. Were you one of those egghead no friend having kids that sat at home all the time and did nothing? Hell, I thought all kids did that . I know all my friends and I did. Course that was 25 or so years ago and like another poster said the world seemed a little more sane then.

If that were my kid and they found out who shot him I'd seriously take the guys whole family out. Every single one of them. Just so he could share my pain.

As for having friends, we were all too busy playing sports all day and night so we wouldn't grow up fat, lazy and stupid and egg cars like these morons.

So you were a geek in other words? Iplayed all the sports and still managed to engage in other nefarious teenage pursuits. It was fun and nobody ever died or killed anyone. Nothing some soap and water wouldn't take off. Was it stupid ? Yes, but most teenagers are and so are the things they like to do . Would I warm my kids butt up for doing it ? Yes, even though I myself did it way back when . Point is it is wrong and potentially dangerous but to even joke that it was anywhere in the neighborhood worthy of getting shot over is retarded.

Yeah a geek, I forgot - with your grade school drop out mentality you are only cool if you destroy things. I had enough friends to play full out 11 on 11 football games, played 2 on 2 volleyball non-stop in the summer, basketball all the time - rode our bikes all over the neighborhoods and played in the woods all day long. Maybe I just had parents who were good at parenting and taught us respect - we KNEW if we vandalized someone's house by destroying things we'd be beaten severely. It's about respect - I have it for my parents and neighbors - always have and always will. Watch your mouth with the name calling, it'll get you booted from the board real fast son.

Didn't mean to start all this Soup, soory. Good for you that you had your head on straight. I mostly stuck to toilet paper and shaving cream (which I now know is only marginally better than eggs). My house has been egged twice, I still have a stain on the siding from one of them. But I still never had ANY desire to shoot the kid that did it. I know you're not saying you would have either, I just hate how easy it seems to be for some people to pull the trigger anymore.

Edit: Sorry, I wasd talking to Mourg in a different thread. And by the way, your neighborhood sounds a lot like mine when I was a kid. We played full contact football damn near every day in fall and winter and baseball the rest of the time. Rode bikes all day in the woods. Man I wish I had that energy now!!

Nah, he's just saying that it's okay to "beat someone severely" over it.

Listen, I don't know the exact depth of what he's referring to as a severe beating, but maybe a little more of the rod isn't such a bad thing. It disgust me more to hear parents excusing bad behavior by saying some psycho /Dr. Spock babble about expressing themselves and giving them their space than it does to see a parent pop their kid once on the behind.

Yeah the consequense for someone doing minor damage to car should be to end his life or beat him so badly that he'll probably sustain serious damage that'll affect his entire life

I agree that every action deserves a reaction... but come on Soup... to end someone's life because they threw an egg at your car is sad.... and even to 'beat' someone 'severely' over it is sad as well... that you would place such a value you an inanimate object over a human life.

I consider a paddle to the behind with a full swing to be a severe beating.

as long as it's done by the parent i'm ok with that - I wouldn't label spanking as a 'sever beeating' though...

Taking a "full swing" as an adult to a child's body is NOT a spanking.

I feel sorry for you.
I have the 2 greatest parents in the world. I recall being slapped once when I was a kid. It was the threat of it more than anything. My parents taught me respect, something parents today are too afraid to do. I have a buddy who's 6' 2 235LBS who's still afraid of his dad out of respect, he was raised trememndously and his family is great. They knew how to be parens as well. You have no reason to feel sorry for a guy who moved out of state at 23, bought a house at 25, speaks to his parents weekly (they've been married for 40 years), has a great job and can support himself with zero debt and is well respected with many close friends.

Sorry missed that part... spanking is a tough thing to quantify... and in this case spanking wouldn't have done squat... the kids are what? teens? I don't know the research on it, but i doubt that spanking would do much to deter teens from causing problems... maybe if you take their ipods and smash them in front of them

Exactly. And, I don't think spanking teaches anything EVER. It tought me to hate my Father and he did it ONCE. I'll never forget or forgive him for that. Just because he's an ass doesn't mean he had the right to hit us.

Chances are this was a stolen vehicle or something, otherwise this person is dumber than a box of rocks, since it takes nothing to trace who the car belongs to.

And that's the reason why kids have no respect today - you can see that "timeouts" work real well, lol. Saying "aw, he's just a kid" is an excuse and the kid will take advantage of it non-stop. A smack on the butt is a good thing. Not smacking a kid when he's way out of line is what got this country so weak and why the kids now run the country rather than the adults. Parents need to discipline, I'm not talking punching kids in the face with your fist or whipping them in the back - I'm talking smack on the meet of the butt, the more severe - with a paddle. That will teach a kid who doesn't listen to start respecting.

When a bad action yields a painful consequence, the action will be less likely to happen again.

When a bad action yields "sit on the steps for 5 minutes" its going to be repeated over and over again.

Once people started believing that they were not animals, respect got lost. We are nothing but animals, the way to tame them is with something they don't like - a little bit of pain.

No, it doesn't always work that way. It teaches kids to hit their own kids. It teaches kids to hate the hitter. It teaches kids to FEAR their parent, not respect them. Huge difference. Fear is not respect.

But, you can treat your kids any way you wish. I'll treat mine how I wish. In the end, I bet I get more respect than you do.

From this statement I'm going to guess your father was a horrible person. Mine isn't, spanking goes hand in hand with loving a child. Love them when they are good and spoil them, when they are bad - let them know they are bad.
