At 11:15 Gordon walked into the facility to take part via a conference call in the resumption of his hearing which ended just after 3 p.m. Gordon was in New York City on Friday for the beginning of the hearing which lasted a reported 10 hours.
“It’s part of the process,” head coach Mike Pettine said. “He left practice early to go in.”
<<sigh>> This is not how you build a winning team. This is how you build a team that has a lot of talent and people say......"gee, they should have won more games," and then coaches get fired, FO's are overhauled, and the draft is a bigger topic than the playoffs.
Quote:
Upon Further Review – The offense was not shut out of the end zone during Saturday’s scrimmage in Akron.
Pettine said replay showed tight end Gary Barnidge did get 2 feet in for a TD on a throw from Johnny Manziel.
“We would’ve thrown the flag on the one Barnidge catch,” Pettine said. “And I think somebody had video from the stands that confirmed that he had two feet in when he caught the ball. That was pointed out to me by our offensive guys yesterday.”
That's just sad. The offense still got outscored by the defense.
I'm not liking the vibes I am getting from Berea.
As I understand it, the two defensive touchdowns both came off of interceptions from Connor Shaw. Zac Diles and Craig Robertson had the Ints. I wouldn't let Connor Shaw's shortcomings cloud your perception of what happened on the O vs. the D on Family Day.

What about Hoyer's interception that was returned 50 yards by Mingo? What about the fact that we scored only 1 TD on offense? What about the fact that the defense has been kicking the offense's butt everyday in practice? What about the only way the offense can win the day is when they have offensive and defensive coaches fielding punts?
Nah, there is no reason to worry about the offense. They have a proven track record of being successful. They have established players at all the skill positions and are not working in any new guys on the OL? They have been running the same offense for years now and have it mastered. Anyone who has concerns about the offense is an idiot and not a genius like the rest of us who know things will be great.

Or, said in a less confrontational way, the reports we're reading/hearing from camp seem to be eerily similar to reports we've read/heard in years' past. The offense struggles.
Now, is that because the defense is so great? Didn't explain the offense's struggles in the past when our D looked good in camp and then couldn't do it in the games.
I agree with you, Vers. I'm concerned about our offense.

LOL.........I only used the sarcasm because he spoke to me in a condescending manner about not letting Connor Shaw's shortcomings..... Besides, it was kinda fun writing like that. It made me laugh. Oh, since someone finally agreed w/my concerns........I will say this: I am not saying this offense can't be good. I just don't get how so many people are acting like we are so much better offensively this year than last, especially if Gordon is out. I think we have more questions than answers and that is never a good thing. I do think we could be better at QB, but both guys are inexperienced and I think we should have tried to get them a little more help to make their transition easier.

J/C Mary Kay posted the first depth chart. Interesting to see Greco ahead of Gilkey with all of the first team reps he's been taken. Skrine ahead of Gilbert.... link I can't figure out how to upload images. Sorry, guys.

I want to ask Mary Kay "wait, you said Manziel got 1st team reps yesterday because of Hoyer's poor performance at the scrimmage. Why is he first team now? Did Manziel perform so poorly at yesterday's practice?"
Her writing is tough to stomach sometimes.

I don't love him or really have any opinion at all. I just remember reading in a lot of the articles that he was getting a lot of reps with the first string. Greco seemed to not be mentioned as much. Wasn't he ailing a bit?

Greco missed some time due to an injury. I think they have been splitting reps the last couple of weeks.

Now with Pinkston gone, we'll likely get lots of chances to see Gilkey in the preseason.

I think that Sheard, Mingo, and Kruger will all get a lot of time on the field, just as they did last year. Rotating them helps keep them fresh and more effective. Just like our DL. Teams rotate them all the time, so it's good to have a lot of good players at those positions.
Oh, and I know you know that...LOL.........just threw it in for some others to see.

Pat Mac (formerly from the ABJ, now with ESPN) has reported similar stuff.

FWIW, Pettine has stated that settling for FG's won't cut it, that they definitely need more intensive work in the red zone. (I'm paraphrasing, of course.)

It was awesome. A one handed, off target, thrown completely behind his back shoulder catch, made to look easy.

Well, he had the TD catch in the Scrimmage ...... upon further review by the head coach.
I'd say that he's a solid weapon.

Interesting, because I haven't seen much about Crowell so far this camp.
Daryl Ruiter @RuiterWrongFAN 2m Isaiah Crowell giving Dion Lewis a run for his money for 3rd RB spot

Carucci and Zegura have been consistently saying he has the inside track for the 3rd RB spot. This speculation should be shored up in the next couple of weeks with Detroit and Washington.

*Sigh*
Evidently Manziel had an incredible play action that completely froze the Safeties ....... and allowed Benjamin to get open by 10-15 yards ...... ball lands right in his hands, in the end zone ..... and ......
Jeff Schude @jsbrownsinsider 3m Manziel had Benjamin wide opew deep. The ball went through Benjamin's hands. Collective groan from fans.

I don't know... I actually liked that article. I think it was the first one that actually took an honest look at the QB competition, especially since Manziel started getting 1st team reps.
Hoyer is what he is. We really shouldn't be surprised at the reporter's take on him. I think it's fairly accurate based on the current sample size we have on Hoyer.
Manziel still has a way to go (as evidenced his having to learn playbook and calls and such), as well as the normal rookie learning curve (ex. making throws he shouldn't make). It looks like he's already improving in these areas, so there's some early evidence to believe he can eventually take over the starting job. It doesn't appear that he'll be ready to do so this year, however.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

LOL That's one way to do it ...... eff Schudel ‏@jsbrownsinsider 57s Check out Buster Skrine's mitts. They have no fingers. The idea is to teach corners to defend without holding.

It seems like the name Taylor Gabriel has come up a lot today on Twitter camp reports. (with both QB)

I guess I am a pessimist, I see a terribly thrown ball that turned into a low percentage catch.
Sweet catch? Yes absolutely.
Bad throw, yes, terrible.
It's either a bad route or a bad throw. Great catch and it's fun to watch!

Would love another TE pass catching weapon. Imagine defenses unable to double Cameron because there's another threat on the field on the opposite side. Two TE sets, anyone?

He's making a lot of noise, and he was all over one of the videos I saw a couple practices back, but even so, he's likely deep on the depth chart. I would love having a deep WR chart stacked with talent throughout, and it does appear at first glance that this roster will end up with serious depth at most of the positions. When you look at the preliminary depth chart, it appear we'll eventually be cutting some talented players.

Just a note on that...tough to expect different after all its another NEW OFFENSE that all have to learn - for some reason we feel the need to fire them and start over the next season...new QB new O system new OL blocking scheme.
Lets just know for a fact unless they dummy the offense down it will not run well. All have to be on the same page. Next year I expect the Offense to start revving it up.
Btw...Billick on the Browns QB situation. If JM doesn't win the starting job from day one...he's a BUST... says the self proclaimed offensive genius. Who held a record of offensive futility...but still won
