I might be criticized for this, but they need to reduce the amount of bowl games. There's just a lot of bad teams. It would add more meaning to them and make them more competitive.

You won't be criticized by anyone with a brain... their ARE too many bowl games and some SHOULD be eliminated - but you, me and the American public knows it's not going to happen.

As long as some network wants programming, and some company steps up as a title sponsor, the games will go on.

I like all the bowl games, but I'm a degenerate gambler, and everyone knows you make money you when you bet bowl dogs.

But yeah, Illinois had ZERO business being in a bowl game.

I use to watch every bowl game.... I watch most now but since I usually work during most of the games I don't catch a ton.... I do think there are too many games....

I suffer from college football overload.

I will watch the playoffs, and probably 1 or 2 other games, but that's about it.

Three years ago I thought it would be decades before Penn State's football program recovered from the Sandusky scandal and resulting sanctions.

The Lions have some excellent "home-grown" talent and James Franklin is an excellent coach.

I'm not a fan but I have to admit Pennsylvania is great football state.

Thanks professor. I guess you can make posts without using your "head".

What about Penn State?

Just for context, my reply was because you posted this as a thread of it's own in the "Everything Else" forum instead of the "Tailgate" forum, which is clearly the place for this, and which had a College Football / Bowl thread already. The mods moved it here.

This USC/Nebraska game is ridiculous...

Also, USC is going to be really good again in a couple years.. Sanctions over AND they've got a lot of really good Freshmen playing right now..

They will also have a top 5 recruiting class if not #1. They are expected to sign 3 or 4 of the top 20 players still available according to 247 recruiting. There class is currently top ten before those commits.

So...

VA Tech 7-6
WVU 7-6

Just because I keep hearing about that terrible loss compared to Baylor.

The Big 12 sucks. I hope every one of those loud-mouth teams loses. They have sucked for years and it annoys the heck out of me how Baylor is crying. Nice game today...........Oklahoma!

Texas had to 1 up their rival. They had 25 yards with 6 minutes left in the 4th. Finished with 59. How does this happen?

The talk was had it been Texas and Oklahoma instead of TCU and Baylor, would they have been left out of the Final Four..

I wonder had it been Texas and Oklahoma, how much more quickly would the Big 12 be looking to expand and get a conference title game..

If the Big 12s marquee teams were good. They'd care more about it. IMO.

The irony is that they're asking to be able to have two 5 team divisions and have a conference title game.. But then everyone still plays everyone.. So what happens if say like last year Baylor beats TCU, then they play again.. and TCU wins?

I'm just ganna assume this is Texas, who basically runs that conference, ruining it for everyone else.

I hope the NCAA tells them to find 2 more teams.

Not great pickings of who is left. At least Cinci & Memphis would be natural rivals? UCF is the most obvious school, but what 2nd school from the southeast? I guess it would be funny if they invited LaTech?

they could go West and invite any 2 of BYU, Boise, and Nevada.

I know this is a scary idea, but we need to press cooper man to man. We can't give him space or run zone or Bama will pick us apart. Doran Grant can match up athletically with him. He will do to us what Sammy Watkins did if we give him a constant cushion.

I would put Grant on Cooper, but I would also roll my coverage to his side of the field.

Cool video.

I am so jacked for this game. We have a chance. We are faster than they are. We have a better OL than they do.

I worry about our pass defense and by ad-lib running plays from their qb.

Regardless of what happens tomorrow night, next years team will be unbelievable. We have guys like Sam Hubbard who have been tearing it up in practice and we REDSHIRTED him. Whoever plays QB, Urban will turn them into a monster.

Next year could be the most talented and possibly BEST team in OSU history.

They will be so much fun to watch. I feel great about the QB situation. You've got 2, maybe even 3 guys coming back who are capable.

I really think OSU will play well tomorrow. I don't know if they are going to be able to win, but I feel like this isn't going to be a repeat of OSU's bad past with SEC teams. I think Alabama is the better team, but they have some weaknesses that OSU can expose. If this were last year's Alabama team, I'd be a little more worried. I think our DL can chase Sims into some bad decisions.

And on offense, they have to be able to run the ball, and execute the little short passes.

Tough to ask Jones to go out and beat Alabama, but that kid can make every throw, so if he gets some help from the guys around him, we'll hang in there.

I would prefer an 8 team playoff system. 4 on New Years day.

There will be no playoffs. Can’t play with who we have out there and compounding it with garbage playcalling and worse execution. We don’t have good skill players on offense period. Browns 20 - Bears 17.

Baylor (Petty) and Michigan State (Cook) on right now.

Petty just threw a bomb for a TD. 7-7

Bowl overload and watered down for sure..In 1994 there were 18 bowls and this year? A heaping helping of 38 bowls..

38 bowls = 76 teams playing? There are only 128 D-I schools (I think). SO ~60% of all D-I teams will be in a bowl? notallthere

Yea - way to many bowls..

Petty's pretty impressive - he's bigger than I thought he was (6-3, 230). Cook looks good too, but he might need another year before coming out for the draft.

Watching that big ol' OL "running" down the field as a receiver was really funny. That was about the longest 18 yard pass and run I have ever seen. rofl

I hope we sign that kicker from Auburn. He seems like he would be a great replacement for Cundiff.

Tough way to lose, but I'm glad that the B1G finally showed up. Good for Barry Alverez (even though I hated him, I still liked him. lol).

Petty has 464 yards passing. He reminds me a little of Matt Stafford with the different arm angles. He also reminds me of Derek Carr, with more poise under pressure.

This is probably heresy, but does anybody else see a little Dan Marino in Connor Cook's release?

He seems to have a nice calm pocket presence and a pretty quick release.

I think all of the discussion about Baylor and TCU not making the playoffs can be put to rest now.
