What do you think of Fowler and Oakman? I'm a little surprised to see Kikaha on your list, I was thinking late first/early second for him.

I doubt that the AFCN will have 2 teams in the playoffs. Of couse the same goes for the NFCW.

I still have to watch Fowler and Oakman. I have a lot to catch up on. I think Kikaha is a little under the radar right now because west coast and the Pac 12 not regularly on major networks. but the guy is an all American and a sack machine. I think people will start to talk about him more in the first for a 3-4 team, but that's really just a guess. I will say my mock would definitely change if TCU WR Josh Doctson declared, but that would be a bad move for him I think.

If we could get out of the first with Parker and Dupree, maybe a guard in the 2nd, we would have a very competitive team.

Detroit may not be the only 0-16 team after next year.

Cleve - love and appreciate all the work you put into the draft every year.

From our prior posts in this thread it's obvious that we are on the same page.

My top guy is Shelton, I want one of the top 4-5 Wr, a pass rush OLB and a RG.

I stumbled across a guy that has good size and numbers (6'4" 255# and had 17.5 sacks this season) but I haven't seen him play. I would appreciate it if you added him to your to scout list.

I would LOVE to see Jaelen Strong the WR from Arizona State...

I've seen this kid play on ESPN a few times when they've been on and HE STANDS OUT big time! He's big and strong (no pun intended) and has excellent deep speed for his size. He isn't a tall lengthy kid either, but he has definition and looks like he'd be strong enough to create space at the LOS.

If we go WR in the 1st round this is the guy I want...

I have a feeling that this year more so than any recent, FA will drastically effect positions we look at in the draft..

I also expect, after last year, they may even try to shy away from the "sexy" picks in the first few rounds.. As much as I'd love Jaelen Strong, I see them drafting a DL and LB more than likely..

We've avoided taking big time play makers in A LOT of recent drafts.

We didn't take a WR last year.

If Gordon ends up traded or cut I see no scenario where we don't take a WR in the 1st or 2nd round...

I do also agree with you regarding free agency...

If we can be aggressive and bring in 4 or 5 good starters we maybe able to go BPA come draft time.

We need a WR, RT, DE/DT and another pass rusher in free agency.

If we lose Cameron and Skrine well obviously we'll need another TE and CB (hopefully they're both re-signed).

I'm also on board with a new RG but I don't know if they'll want to replace John Greco or not.

Shanahan has come out and said he doesn't need "great" WRs in his schemes..

But we clearly need more talent there.. Lobbing it up to Travis Benjamin needs to stop..

I'm fine with the Oline, if they want to grab a G/C in the 4th/5th that's cool.. unless the plan is to make Greco the 6th guy..

I hope we are brutal punishers. Draft for a "DREAD THEM" factor. Just not nasty enough IMO.

I can see a scenario where we not only don't take a WR in the first or second rounds but not at all in the draft.

Jeremy Maclin. Cecil Shorts.

Those two plus Hawkins and Gabriel? Yes please.

Bury Gordon on the depth chart, and make him earn his spot.. if anything he stays clean lean enough to build up some value.. if not he's done.

i like Schwartz at RT. He is a good fit for this scheme. This was arguably the best line in football with Mac in there. the chemistry between this group was amazing. We need depth, I might look for a RG with a little more pop but its a superbowl caliber OL when all 5 are in there.

If we can draft an Offensive lineman high enough I would go right guard , if we drop down to the Middle rounds I would look for a Center/Guard swing man .

Why RG?

I know that posters say that Bitonio was great this year, but Grecco was a far better player than he was. In fact, if I had to grade our offensive linemen, Grecco might be at the top, even ahead of Joe.

I think too many of you get caught up in draft status, rather than actual play.

Do you really think that Schwartz was better than Grecco>? notallthere

An OT. As much as I dislike saying it, it is approaching the time to start looking for Joe T's successor.

I've only done a cursory four round draft start up, but here's what I like as of now.

#12 - Parker, WR or Oakman, DE
#19 - White, WR, Shelton, DT, Stanley, OT, Coates, WR, Green-Beckmann, WR
#43 - Dak Prescott, QB , Malcom Brown, DT
#77 - Kouandjio, OG , Matias, OG
#108 - Petty, QB , SS, OT, ILB

Of course each round depends on the previous one for selection.

While many will talk about the more flashy positions there are two I think we should address on a lower level:

If we are going to use a fullback we need a good one. Jerome Felton of the Minnesota Vikings is a good one and is a free agent. I would try and sign him. If not him I would consider drafting the giant fullback from Alabama (Jalston Fowler), he plays the position well in college.

Also, while I like Spencer Lanning as a person, he is a below-average punter. I won't pretend to know if their is a good punter available through the draft, but there has to be someone better than Lanning available through the draft or free agency.

Breakdown:

9 games against teams with 10 or more wins
3 games against 9 win teams
4 games against teams with losing records

Average number of wins overall:8.7
Outside number of wins for teams outside the division: 7.7

Compared to this years schedule:
7 games against team with 10 or more wins (only 1 outside the division)
2 games against 9 win teams
7 games against teams with loosing records

We are trading 3 loosing teams for 2 12 win and 1 9 win team.

Avg number of wins:7.6
Avg number of teams outside the division: 5.9

That is almost a full point higher overall and 2 points higher outside the division. Which equates out to a full 30% more difficult schedule outside the division next year.

Though to be fair things change over time. 2 of the teams played (NO and Car) this year had 11+ wins in 2013 before falling to sub 500.

This is the key line.

Last year, the Ravens and Steelers were both 8-8 teams. The Saints were 11-5. The Panthers were 12-4. Conversely, the Bills, a 6-10 team last year became a 9-7 team this year. Houston was 2-14 last year, and turned things around to also go 9-7. Tennessee went from 7 wins, to 2.

You never know how teams will perform from year to year. A key injury here or there can derail a team's whole season. Look at how the injury to Mack disrupted our offense this year.

Strength of schedule means little until after the season.

One would think the Bills and Jets have a lot of FA pieces Pettine my covet.

Bills:
G Erik Pears
DE Jerry Hughes
LB Brandon Spikes
LB Stevenson Sylvester
SS Da'Norris Searcy

Jets:
G Willie Colon
FS Jaiquawn Jarrett
NT Damon Harrison
LB David Harris

Hughes and Harrison would be the only ones I'd be interested.. I don't think we need Spikes or Harris (plus Harris is 30)

I hope were not still interested in 30ish Year old players.. We brought in Dansby and Whitner, IMO that's enough..

Time to bring in guys that are vets but still have a full contract of good football left in them.. or just draft people..
