We’re starting to wonder if anyone on the Browns made it to any team activities on time on Saturday.

Wide receiver Josh Gordon has been suspended for the final game of the season and quarterback Johnny Manziel has been disciplined after being tardy for work on Saturday morning and now cornerback Justin Gilbert is expected to miss Sunday’s regular season finale as well.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Gilbert was late to a team meeting on Saturday night and that the team will make him inactive as a result. Gilbert’s work ethic has been questioned by some of his veteran teammates recently, leading coach Mike Pettine to say that he didn’t think Gilbert was a bust. For his part, Gilbert said he brought such criticism upon himself and that he would make things right.

That effort got off to just as bad a start as Manziel’s plan to be more professional heading into his second NFL season. The two first-round picks hit Cleveland with a lot of hope about the better days they’d bring with them for the perpetually forlorn franchise, but their first years are ending with the feeling that it’s the same old song for the Browns.

This is out of hand... these kids are stupid and neither of them have played good football either. I wish they could take away all the money they made this season for their acts of stupidity if all this Manzie party rumor is true.

Three days ago these asshats were promising to atone for their lost year...three frickin' days ago.

Now they are already screwing up again.

The vets on this team should declare that throughout all of 2015 they will be treated as rookies again. Carry the shoulder pads, sing the songs, wash the cars, whatever.

Unreal.

So much for believing from both of these idiots they would turn around their work ethic.

I'm not at all sure that Pettine and Farmer were aware they were going to be required to run a baby sitting facility.

All 3 seem to have an issue with knowing how to respond well to adversity as JM & JG are both reading 'bust' in the news and Josh - he blew a great opportunity to help JM man-up and show he had learned some accountability and responsibility.

on the surface, it reads like a bunch of spoiled kids with entitlement mindsets, although, I am beginning to wonder how well the coaching staff is able to work with these 'kids' and relate to them.

Shoot - Josh and Gilbert probably didn't want to play anyway so the didn't get hurt before the off-season, with Josh figuring he will be elsewhere next year, IMO.

I think these 2 suspensions and the fine for Manziel is meant to set a tone for 2015. It is obvious that these 3 disciplines are very public and news worthy. The coaching staff and front office are trying to send a message that this will not be tolerated any longer.

This player behavior we are seeing from Manziel, Gordon, and Gilbert are a real problem and part of the culture of losing in Cleveland and it needs to change. I applaud the coaches and front office for these public disciplines.

I'll take the opposite side of the coin ... This Coaching staff should have a handled these type of juvenile problems long before the last game of the Season .. Once again I find my Team an embarrassment ..

I would agree with you, but ONLY if Gordon, Manziel, and Gilbert get it figured out.

Let's face it, all 3 of them, 2 of them as recently as just this week, said they know what they need to do, and they'll do it, and blah blah blah...........and then we get this? Gordon late, suspended. Manziel a no show until security finds him at home and he gets fined, and Gilbert late for team meeting - a team meeting IN Baltimore..and he gets suspended.

The boys don't have long to "figure it out".

I wouldn't be upset if we cut all three of them.

Set a tone. Pettine said he was going to change the culture. These guys are laughing in his face. Inactives and suspensions won't do anything. These guys don't want to play anyway. Gilbert got his money. Manziel already has money. Gordon will likely be out of the league in a year.

If you want to change the culture get rid of them.

A complete and utter trainwreck.

This is becoming comical.

I don't think I can ever recall such a flurry of disorganization and turmoil with players

Maybe the Browns will wise up and start putting something in player contracts that gets these kids attention for "missing" meetings. At this point, they could care less. To me, Gordon and Gilbert just don't feel like being on the field for Week 17.

I have to say, I usually try to stay away from overreacting but I kind of agree here. I think it would send a great message to the team. Draft Parker and IEO to replace them, two guys who bust their ass all the time.

The big question of the off season is, does Ray Farmer survive. It's looking very much like his first draft was a disaster. He trades down, passing on taking Watkins who's been a productive player for the Bills, and he takes Gilbert. A largely unproductive corner. And now we find out he's a serious head case. You take a corner that high he BETTER be a special player. Not a special nutcase.
Johnny just got through yammering on about how he knows he didn't study hard enough this season, etc. And how he wanted to be the GUY next year.... then HE blows off the team to party.

West didn't play last week because of off the field attitude problems he's had all season.....

I'm not saying Haslam should fire Farmer, but I'm also not sure he shouldn't. To blow two first round picks in the same draft is suicide.

IF Farmer survives he BETTER have a LOT better draft this April. Another one like the last and he won't find a job anywhere.

Well, it's a huge financial blow for Gordon in that it pushes back his free agency by a season.

I agree. And it begs the question? Has Pettine lost the team? And what was Farmer thinking drafting Gilbert, Johnny and West? Where was the "due diligence"? Someone had to know these kids were head cases....

I have advocated trading Gordon since he came back. We don't need any superstar receivers, we need team first guys. That goes for Manziel and Gilbert too.

The draft process is a crapshoot - scouts and senior personnel, I imagine, talk to people who know the players, they interview the players - some immaturity is to be expected IMHO as these kids are fresh out of college, but like Dansby et al point out - this is a living, a profession.

I'm hoping Gilbert can turn it around but you know what - I'm happy with Skrine, Williams and Haden as a trio as it stands. We aren't the first team to draft a CB high who didn't turn out. CB and QB are probably 2 of the most difficult positions to project to the NFL in my ignorant view smile

I think next year writes the book on Pettine, Farmer and co. I think the core, veteran nucleus is onside. I would trade Gordon outside our conference for whatever we can get, Manziel has an offseason to prove himself and we re-sign Hoyer.

Saying that - go Shaw laugh

I did not want to draft Johnny, but like all Browns fans was hoping he was the man, now I steal Dallas's 1st pick and let him play in Jerry world!!!!

Prior to him showing he's a basket case on the field we might have made that trade. I doubt Jerry would give us a 2nd now. One of the desperate teams like Jacksonville or Tampa might give us a 2nd. Maybe. More likely a 3rd.

Jacksonville is set with Bortles, Tampa will go Mariota.

You may find someone, but Manziel has just blown himself up as far as any team considering him for a starters job.

I think that our best bet is to try and move Manziel to the Cowboys, where he can sit and hopefully mature. Unfortunately, having very limited bidders will be a major problem.

I am unsure what to do with Gilbert. He is the one I hope grows up this off-season.

I could see the Browns relegating Manziel, Gordon & Gilbert to 3rd string players who are told that they have to work themselves up the chain to get playing time.

It should be as simple as that. They should start 'on the bubble' in training camp going into next season.

Is it, really? I don't think it is.

For the mere fact that no one would ever risk coming to Cleveland and become the fourth regime in four years under Haslem to be given no more than one season to turn it around, should be reason enough why Farmer stays.

Farmer should stay. Pettine should stay. Coaches should stay. We increased the win total from last year. Yes, we do have player issues that need addressing but if a FO/coaching staff can increase the win column in one year, I would expect they can rectify any individual/locker room issues as well.

At one point, this one and done regime thing has to go. I think Farmer and Pettine illustrated, to me at least, they should stick out and are more valuable to the regime before it.

As I write this, Haslem just said that Pettine and Farmer will "absolutely" stay. So there that, now.

I Believe Gilbert is hanging with a bad crowd (Manzeil and Gordon) and as I tell my congregation "If you lie with dogs you get flees ...

I believe Manzeil is major distraction for this team, Gordon is a follower, one that lives in the moment, and is easily lead down the wrong road. I doubt he stays clean in the offseason.I would trade him as soon as possible before he screws up again.

Gilbert is the guy that is baffling to me. When drafted, he really seemed to have a good grasp of what to do, but now the reports that he was routinely late for meetings is a bad sign. I wouldn't cut ties with him yet, but going into next year, I place him firmly at the bottom of the depth chart, and let him know in OTAs that it is time to put up or be gone.

Hip hip hooray! Lets all hope that Farmer drafts just like he did last year. Missing on two more first round picks would be awesome.

Johnny and Gilbert, two first round picks that have done F-all to help this team improve. And our third rounder West has proven to have an attitude problem as well.... PLEASE can I see some more of THAT kind of drafting Mr. Haslam? smile

By the way. I seem to recall Haslam giving Banner and Lombardi a vote of confidence last year then changing his mind.... and Harbaugh JUST got released by the Santa Clara 49er's

SO 49ers have 8 consecutive losing season (ok 1 of them 8/8)...in steps Jim and all they do is win; 13/3, 11/4, 12/4 and then this year 8/8. I thought NFL was all about winning - how in the world is he let go???

if he drafts like he did and gets 4 starters out of bitno west kirksy crowell desir along with Williams and Gabriel.(not including JFF and Gilbert) ever year... I'm happy. I suspect Gilbert will turn out ok and be a good starter.

we also have players like nelson houghlett meder shaw winston.

all in all 14 rookies and a good portion are playing meaningful snaps.

He can miss on every first and second pick for the next 5 years and I will never complain once.

It's been pretty well known Harbaugh was gone after this season since like week 3. It is no surprise.

As for releasing Johnny, Gordon and Gilbert, to "Show them a lesson", all 3 would get picked up by other teams, and move on with their careers. And if we don't improve in the next couple years then the egg is on our face, not theirs.

What I really don't get is that the season including training camp is 5 months. You have 7 months to party and screw off, you can't stay dedicated for 5 measly months.

The vets really need to step up here and drive it into them, shun them, harass them, beat them down, sit them down and have a heart to heart, whatever it takes. Football is a team game, and that means all players are needed to succeed, and 3 screw off affects the success of the other 50 who are putting in the effort, I'd be pissed if I was one of the 50.

We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.
