Marcus Mariota is more physically talented than Winston. Winston is more projectable to the NFL because of the system he plays in. We probably shouldn't discuss either in depth with regards to our team because we aren't getting either.
As we have seen in the past, if a teams needs a QB and there is one available, they will not trade the pick. The two teams that draft first and second (the Buccaneers and Titans) need QBs. The first two picks will be Mariota and Winston in some order to the teams that originally own the picks.
Our only option, if we want to pick a QB in the first round, will be Brett Hundley and we would likely need to trade up to get him. After watching Hundley's entire career at UCLA (I have been to several UCLA home games and watched many more on TV) I wouldn't touch him. He is nearly the exact same player he was as a freshman and would need to sit awhile to be a good pro.
I know it won't happen, but we should probably focus our energy towards players we actually have a chance of getting.
Edited because I am a nincompoop. (Pun intended).

I will say once again that I really don't get why this guy is so highly rated.
I like the kid---as a person. He is quiet, polite, respectful, hard-working, and athletic.
I just don't like him as a qb.
Check out his numbers w/in the red zone. Compare them to his numbers anywhere else. Why the HUGE discrepancy?
I think it is because in the red zone, the field shrinks and he has to actually make reads. He is not very good at that, and thus, makes bad decisions and bad throws.
He is a one-read qb who typically looks at a quarter of the field and at most---half the field. He's a great athlete, is surrounded by great talent, and plays in a system that exploits inferior talent.
I like the kid and I wish he was better, but I don't think he will be a very good qb in the NFL.

One thing in the championship game I was telling the many Duck fans surrounding me - Mariota did not seem to throw into tight windows or into good coverage. Jones took some chances and his receives bailed him out on a few throws - but he did take chances. Late in the game when he did take some shots, I think his shoulder was hurt and his passes were say short. for some reason, every time he dropped back to pass, I kept hearing you type 'he's a one read QB'

The red zone is where Mariotta was forced into more of an NFL type situation. With the defense compressed into a tighter area he then needs to rely on reads. You nailed it.

is their OL really built for a goal line push? that may be alot of their red zone probs.
tradition can only carry you so far, then you have to start winning again.

j/c... 1. Mariota has a good arm and is a danger to make plays out of nothing.
2. If he doesn't get taken by the Eagles, he will probably sit a season unless the team that gets him just has not other options.
The media killed the Browns and Manziel when we chose to sit him a year. They Love Mariota and even though he might be a top 5 pick are stating he would benefit sitting a year.
3. I think he has a few raw skills that are better than Manziel. But I saw Manziel with a lot more pressure and smaller windows than Mariota. Who knows who will be better once they get comfortable into a system.
4. Garaffalo...I'm sorry how many games in the NFL have you all seen him play? lol
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
