2012 FBI Data

Blacks committed the following percentages of specific crimes:

28.1% of all crimes
49.4 % of all murder and manslaughter
32.5% of forcible rape
54.9% of robberies
34.1% of aggravated assaults
30.8% of vehicle theft.

So are blacks inherently more prone to violence and crime, or are there other external factors that lead to these numbers?

(if there's any words there you don't understand, I would recommend looking them up before answering)

I am not even going to bother with you anymore. You have made up your mind about everything, and refuse to even try to contribute to a worthwhile discussion. You insult, play gotcha, and refuse to admit that, just maybe, you were wrong, even when it's proved that you were, indeed, wrong. It is pointless to even try to have a conversation with you, because no matter what I say, it will be twisted. Your reply to my post is a perfect example. It's not worth it to have any form of further discussion with you. Carry on with your insults if you desire, but I am done with you.

There is simply no having a meaningful discussion with you.

Have a nice day.

I think that poverty definitely plays a part. However, it does not tell the whole story.

The people in Ferguson who broke into stores and stole everything, for example, were not stealing TVs because they could not feed their families. The people who broke into the phone store did not do so to try and find things to support their family.

I do think that some argue the point at either end, and the truth is probably closer to the middle. One thing I do believe is that overall poverty is a factor in many crime statistics, not just among Black people, but all people, and a major contributing factor is the breakdown of many families that live in poverty. I also think that children having children is a factor. There are a number of different reasons. Some part of it may be prosecution bias, where a poor person is easier to convict than someone who can hire a high powered lawyer.

Whatever the reason, there is a problem, and we should be looking for solutions.

If I was proven to indeed be wrong, as you keep insisting, then would you object to me quoting you as saying 'blacks are inherently more prone to violence and crime'? I've heard a lot of crazy arguments and denials on these boards over the years, but I've never seen anything like that one. You'd rather jump in the ocean with an anvil on your leg than admit that you were wrong or didn't know something.

And furthermore, my point is, if they aren't, then those numbers may not be 'the/a reason', no?

Come on bro.

You've been saying in the football forums that stats don't tell the whole story before.

But you're gonna use this at its base?

What about the fact that blacks are more likely to relieve a harsher punishment or be convicted more than whites on average?

Isn't the perfect example the one in Texas?

The judge sent a 14 year old teen to prison for 10 years for hitting a guy when he fell, hit his head and died.

The SAME judge then ruled that the rich white teen, who drove drunk underage and killed 4 people, had affluenza and was sentence to ten year probation.

You wanna bet how often that happens? He'll look what happened to me when I was teen.

Sounds to me like the Black person got what he deserved. It was the White person who got less than he deserved. The injustice is to the people killed and their loved ones.

Here is the rest of what I wrote, after posting the stats, which has been ignored.

The rest are there as well. I wonder why the statistics do not break out those of Hispanic descent as well. They only track White, Black, Asian, or Native American. Those numbers have to include Black Hispanic, and White Hispanics in the Black and White numbers.

I think that a lot of that has to do with poverty, but some has to do with culture. According to the report, Black juveniles accounted for 51.5% of all juveniles arrested for violent crimes. That is a huge number given their overall percentage of the US population in general. Why do police profile? Because, unfortunately, the numbers often say to do so.

However, I think that law enforcement needs to do a better job of working with people of color and communities of color .... but also that those people and communities of color need to do a better job of working with law enforcement. It has to be a 2 way street. There are too many people blaming one side or the other. We all have to work together to find solutions that work for all law abiding people.

I can see why police may stop a Black driver in certain circumstances, but those stops should be done in an absolutely respectful manner, keeping the Constitutional protection of "innocent until proved guilty" in mind. (and also remembering that drivers pay taxes, which support the salaries of police and other safety services) Police should not being their own biases to the traffic stop, but rather conduct the stop, and if nothing seems out of the ordinary, nothing that would cause that officer to take further action against any other driver, then the Black driver should be allowed to be on his/her way without any further disruption to their day.

In the end,we are going to have to figure this out, or implode. If we are to figure it out, it cannot just be one side doing so. The police can institute changes, but if those changes do nothing to address concerns of Black people, then they do not accomplish their goals. Conversely, if the concerns of Black people are addressed without the concerns of police also being taken into consideration, then it will be a wasted effort. One thing I am certain of is that while I don't know what solutions we can arrive at, if a conversation never starts, then any solutions with any value are highly unlikely.

Also, I don't deny that there is a justice gap in this country .... due to race and due to money. Some of the defenses used by the rich to escape punishment are absolutely appalling. (too rich to know better, or whatever that one pearl of wisdom was} rolleyes

You can't look at charts and statistics, assume that they're correct, and then begin deductive reasoning from there.

It's entirely possible - and perhaps even likely - that blacks are arrested in disproportionate numbers precisely because they are profiled, not the other way around.

If I am smoking weed in my car, and a black man is smoking weed in his car, there is a much higher probability that the black man will get arrested.

The black man has a higher chance of becoming a part of the statistic than I do, thus you will most likely get disproportionate statistics.

Meaning one shouldn't look at the numbers and say 'well, blacks smoke weed in their cars at a much higher rate, that's probably why they're more likely to get pulled over'.

What you should look for is constants...and when you look at crime at a constant...poor people are arrested, tried and convicted at a far greater rate than those with financial means.

When we go down to the micro-level of profiling...then there is a constant that sees blacks being stopped and questioned at a far greater rate than others, regardless of income, status, or guilt.

And what double standard is that?

Thank you.

I thought I said something about that.. or all of that......lol..... but its usually ignored like most logical things that I say. Not sure why people want to have a discussion but yet ignore logical rationale posts or mine. I rarely give my opinion with out factual data. (or i could be on ignore)

Seriously? Do two wrongs make a right?

Do you feel wronged because you have been lumped into a certain group and faced unwarranted scrutiny? If so, why would you do the same to another group of people?

Shouldn't hateful discrimination against you and members of your community taught you that such a mindset is ignorant, hateful, and just flat-out wrong?

Rise above the hate, young man. Don't lower yourself to level of the ignorant and the hateful. You're better than that!

I've been on record multiple times saying blacks in general are screwed up.

However, what I've been saying the entire time is the STANDARD for which police and the justice department enforce laws should be the same regardless of race.

Man, some of you guys are really struggling with that concept.

That's good enough for me.
