Kyle Shanahan's run as Cleveland's offensive coordinator comes to a close after one season.
The Browns and the younger Shanahan have parted ways, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday, per a source informed of the plans. Also out the door is quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains.
Around The NFL will have more on this story shortly.

More changes.. Geez. Oh well, out with the slightly used, in with the new and soon to be abused. LOL

Sounds like Shanahan wanted out bad. Not sure what the hell Loggains did this year.

Man, I thought the first half of the year, Kyle’s offense was amazing. Downright genius. The second half of the season, it was predictable and easily defended.
My gut tells me that the front office was seeing the same things I saw, had some suggestions and he wasn’t having it.
Things like designed runs for Johnny Manziel were questionable at best.

Great. We just lost out best OC in years. Dude was legit.
Clearly the QB coach sucked. I dunno what he was doing but Hoyers mechanics started going out the window.
Now my money is on us hiring another crap oc like daboll or carthon.

Doesn't bother me. Shanny's use of Manziel was inexcusable. I'd still like someone to come in who runs a ZBS.
Well, it wouldn't be a Browns offseason without some sort of coaching search. Let the speculation begin!

Browns parting ways with OC Kyle Shanahan and QB coach Dowell Loggains
Makes me wonder if these 2 just want to get the hell away from Johnny Would be nice to keep coaches in place for several seasons to establish some type of a working system.. We got to find coaches who can deal with the personalities in the building... We all know Haslam isn't going anywhere soon. I really wasn't that impressed with Shanny or Loggains...But that doesn't matter.

I see him joining his dad in SF..
Running Kapernick into the ground with Read Option plays..
Hey the Bills still have EJ Manuel.. he can run Read Option..
Or Derek Carr ran a lot of screens in college.. maybe he can run Read Option...

Pretty much my thoughts on the matter as well. Also, with the was Shannahans camp handled this situation, it's hard not to think that Kyle was the problem.

Great, yet another year of a Browns offense looking like they're learning a whole new playbook with a whole new set of personnel. The wheels on the bus go round and round.

On one hand, I am a little disappointed Shanahan is leaving because, for the most part, I enjoyed his play calling. The Manziel situation, as others have said, was interesting. Particularly his designed QB runs.
On the other hand, I can't help but think that "the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree" in relation to his dad and his mindset for power with all things football. I think that has trickled in to Kyle's head as well. I think that has made him difficult to work with, especially when you are just an offensive coordinator and thirst for more.
We've heard rumors of issues in Washington; again here in Cleveland. I doubt we've heard the last of KS.
Good luck, wherever you land.

J/C....
Jason La CanforaVerified account ‏@JasonLaCanfora Not a surprise the Browns let Kyle Shanahan go. As I've reported there has been major friction in that regard and I'm told last Fri...
That Shanahan, after approaching the team about his issues and concerns, was granted permission to leave even for a lateral move. Big loss
The Browns, once again, are dealing with inner turmoil and it's been fairly constant during Jimmy Haslam's regime.
As reported earlier this week, look for Charlie Weis to be among the possibilities to replace Shanahan in CLE.
In other news, the Steelers extended Haley's contract. I guess Haslam is still working on that continuity thing. At least he kept the coach and GM. Baby steps.

I think whomever the new OC ends up being will tell a lot about where Manziel fits in. Is Weis' offense a fit for a guy like Manziel? Sure didn't seem like it in New England, but I admit, I'm not sure if he's varied it or not through his time in college.

j/c Multiple reports have confirmed that the Browns are “parting ways” with OC Kyle Shanahan and quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains, so changes are once again coming to Cleveland’s coaching staff. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports mentions that the Browns interviewed Falcons OC Dirk Koetter for their head-coaching vacancy last year, and Raiders QBs coach John DeFilippo for their offensive coordinator job. Koetter’s future in Atlanta appears to be over as they are in the process of finding a new head coach. Koetter has already interviewed with the Buccaneers, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Browns bring him in for an interview in the coming weeks. As strange as this sounds, Jason La Canfora reports that Charlie Weis is likely to be among the possibilities to replace Shanahan in Cleveland. Weis has had success in the past as an offensive coordinator, even though his record as a head coach has been less than stellar. We’ll have more updates regarding the Browns and their offensive coordinator position as the news is available. http://nfltraderumors.co/charlie-weis-di...-browns-oc-job/

Well ... this sucks. I can't wait till we have a season where the biggest loss we endure is the assistant RB coach, or something similar.

I nominate Detroit Lions QB coach Jim Bob Cooter based on his name alone!!
In all seriousness, it's so hard to look at other team's OCs and QBs coaches and even guess who might be brought in without knowing exactly what the organization thinks of Manziel. If he's going to be given the keys to the castle next season, then it really narrows down the type of OC brought in. Perhaps Geep Cryst from SF?
I'm not totally sorry to see Shanahan go. After all, it was difficult to get him to even come here last season, so I'm not so sure this wasn't a bridge job for him anyway.

The QB coach is not much of a loss. I liked KS but I'm sure there are good people out there that we can hire. Now is our chance to find a good QB coach. Let's face it at the end of the year our O and qb play was not good Connor Shaws start aside.

My understanding is that Bernie doesn't drink anymore.. Not sure if that's true or not. Hope so. But he kinda burned his bridge with the team in the last few weeks.. I've always wanted to see Bernie have a role in the offense, say what you will about him, but the man knows Offense.

Weis, Hoyer, and a New England style offense.
On the upside, there's this: Mack & Thomas have now played together in pretty much every type of system and blocking scheme there is, so switching to something new will really just be going back to something old that they've done before.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

I really wasn't that impressed with Shanny or Loggains...But that doesn't matter. Or, whether Farmer, Pettine, and co want to get those two away from Johnny. I noticed not many of you responded to the post by hesrison on the Berea thread. I think there are some very important things to consider in it. Concerning my point above, I recently read the book The QB The Making of the Modern QuarterbackJohnny Manziel takes up about 60% of the book. I recommend it, it is a pretty good read. In it, they detail many reasons that caused me to think that Shanahan and Loggains would have to go if there were to be any chance of Manziel being successful. Its almost obvious. (Skip to the part where Bret Farve, who Johnny patterns himself after no matter what anybody says, tells his offensive coordinator that the game will be fine as long as he doesn't overcoach him.) As risons post stated, Shanahan knows some ball. But, if the rest of the post is anywhere near accurate... Those two being gone suggest to me that the decision has been made and Manziel will be given the keys. Of course, that can change quickly. Who they bring in, and which QB they bring in or re-sign will also tell a lot.

Who to hire? Well, I do prefer the ZBS particularly for our OL, but here are the guys that I would be trying to acquire:
Greg Roman - 49ers OC and possibly available since Harbaugh left. Mike Munchak - Steelers OL coach, former HC Titans Mike Tice - ATL OL coach, former HC Vikings Greg Knapp - Denver Broncos QB coach, good history in ZBS and with QBs. Mike Devlin- Jets OL coach Clyde Christensen - Colts QB coach Ken Dorsey - Panthers QB coach. Probably not ready for an OC job yet though.
Jim Bob Cooter - Lions QB coach. Not really, I just love the name and yes I had this before reading above, but I love that I'm not the first one to recommend his name!
also, I am interested to see if Pettine tries to grab some of the deposed Bills or Jets defensive coaches.

"Report: Cleveland Browns are going in another direction with the offensive coordinator, but Jimmy Haslem will continue to call plays."

I think it sucks that he's gone. That's not how you build continuity. I hope we promote one of the coaches already on staff to offensive coordinator so he can run a similar system... 4th offensive system in 4 years. That's perfect...

Does it really matter who they bring in? The result will be another losing season. Some things will never ever change...we fire coaches and are in the cellar of the AFC North every year.

That's a very good point.. I didn't see it that way..
I mostly formed my opinion due to the Presser from Haslam..His stating that he won't deal with certain behavior...
Stating that there was going to be some chances given for reform... I can see your point..
Guess we will have to wait and see how things unfold...
I will have to pick up the book...

Can't help but wonder what Alex Mack thinks of all this. Remember, his new contract gave him an opt-out clause after 2 years. One of those years is already in the books.
