But who was it that took so much blame for RG's beating ? This year or last year or both years? Shanny did last year, but as we soon discovered, it was RGIII himself who was responsible. They guy can't read coverages. He holds the ball too long, wildly abandons the pocket, and makes himself a target for big hits. He lacks the escapapability that he once had. I predicted that would happen before the draft. Pigeon legs.

I do recall hearing RG didn't have it between the ears to read coverage's...
Can I ask a question ? If a QB can't read coverage.. can he be taught to At the NFL level... or will he be considered .. unable to learn which would make him a bust.

I think it is easier to teach a qb to read defenses at the LOS than it is to teach a qb to read coverages post snap.
Things happen so fast once the ball is snapped. As bad as some of these qbs are at that, guys like you and I would be totally overwhelmed and see nothing but a blur.
I truly believe this is what separates great collegiate qbs from great NFL qbs. The ability to read coverages. Reading defenses is important too, but it is so much harder to read coverages after the snap.
With the growing popularity of one read Spread offenses in college and QBs having to only look at 1/2 to 1/4 of the field, it is really hard to evaluate how that translates to the NFL where QBs must go through their progressions and see all the field.
It's just not something that can be taught. There are subtleties, of course, that coaches can help you recognize, but if you can't SEE it, you can't see it. Conversely, reading defenses at the LOS, while still an art, can be taught. You stop the film. Identify the defense. Note the down and distance. And do it over and over and over again to find tendencies. As much as DC's want to disguise defenses and give you multiple looks, they are creatures of habit and will run many of the same D's on particular down and distances, especially against like-minded defenses.
Am I making sense? Questions?

Yes, regarding reading coverage: Considering that the QB has 3 seconds or less to get rid of the ball, what is his first read...the FS?

And tab.......I love ya, man.......but, stop w/this pampered stuff. You have absolutely NO PROOF of that, yet if you say it over and over and over and over like you have been, people are going to believe it because they read it some many times and they won't remember where and from whom? You have absolutely NO PROOF that is true. Please stop.
I read it and repeated it. I see nothing wrong in that. This was written after he left Washington. A dad usually does one of two things...treat his son tougher than any else or pampers him. Not enough to call it fact. But when I read it - there is logic to it. Just like if I read that Mike was extra hard on his son, I would have believed that cause it was logical.
Please don't tell me to think your way. We do on most but I simply read something and repeated it. You might like Shanny but it doesn't mean I have to. I liked his Offensive mind but I think he a jerk - and the way he is leaving us and talking about things that usually do not get talked about. Not sure cause I'm not a Redskin fan. But he probably had excuses for leaving Washington also. I don't like guys who do not take any ownership of failure. Shanny good mind w/x's n o's but frankly he doesn't show any character. Sometimes that comes from being PAMPERED. I'm sure owners have left the box during the game and tell the OC/HC why aren't you doing this n that. Deal with it. As long as its not an everyday happening.
All we have is one text. Well assume we will.
JM being forced on him to play. We'll see I guess how true or not. It would be logical that we were not getting anywhere with Hoyer that something happened. Oh and there are reports here n there the difference in HOYER's play had a lot to do with SHANNY. Do we ignore those reports? They don't exist?
I thought Shanny created space which is not an easy task. But I'm not sure if he was a good COACH. One season lots of rumors. I'm not going to join a crowd saying to protest the FO over what, SHANNY? He failed in 2 places and hasn't taken any account for the failures. Its all everyone elses fault. So I choose not to be enamored by him.
If I read something I will bring it up. If its found to be a false report I will correct my use of that article.

So Tab, would that mean you repeat the BOZOS that say what you want to believe or repeat and ignore and lambaste the BOZOS who say things you dislike?

Well thanks for making this about me...lol
I just want all the info. It was stated that there was nothing out there regarding the thought process I was having and I should stop. It wasn't something I conjured up. I read it.
Just like I read there was a text of FO stating to go in an other direction regarding plays (actually until we know what it states we can't really know) We know it was about play calling and in some way directed to Shanny.
Did I say that was a BOZO statement not to be believed...maybe when I first heard that I didn't but now its pretty believable. Its not what I wish to believe do you see me lambasting anyone about Bozos here...maybe the first day when something came out...maybe LaCanfora cause I don't trust him like I don't trust Hoge or Dilfer.
But this isn't about football its a subject matter being bantered around by the Bozo's they are the only source. So what are you saying. I'm not allowed to have an opinion because its all BOZO BASED so I'm null and void.
Man you guys got to get a different hobby. Where in my post to Vers did I say his read material is just BOZO talk and mine is different. Its a subject matter that is BOZO based. If this is an evaluation on a player a coach a draft pick I'll put my opinion over a BOZO or opinion by some on this board over a Bozo any day.
So you try to embarrass me call my a hypocrite when we are talking about a subject that the only info we got is from a BOZO - so I'm to be banned from these threads and not allowed an opinion.
I've just about had it with this board. Just come out and tell me not to post here any more.

You're being far too defensive. I like that you post on the board. I do find it hilarious that you claim all these guys to be BOZOS but generally dismiss any BOZO who writes things you disagree with and promote the stories and rumors of the BOZOS that seem to line up with your train of thought though.
Hey, you have every right to your opinion. That's not even a discussion from my end. I too have my opinions on things. And that's simply how I see this.
From several sources it's been reported that someone in this FO was sending texts to the sidelines. That's a violation of NFL rules. There will now be an investigation. But from reading your posts, you seemed much more upset with Shanahan than those who were actually breaking the rules by sending the texts.
I would hope that it wouldn't upset you terribly that I seem to find irony in these things.

If you have such thin-skin that a little ribbing sends you into indignant whining, then maybe you should consider dropping the snarky and condescending persona you present.
If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

Nah don't quit man. You and a few others on here have good football knowledge and I enjoy reading your posts. Just ignore the cheapshots. I think you make a good point about Shanny, the last two places he's been and drama in both. Coincidence? or does he have a role? And your right there is no real information out there about what really happened so everyone is just guessing at this point based on sketchy news reports. I also do not understand the doom mentality around here over his departure. I thought he did a good job the first half of the the season but the offense really collapsed in the end. And not all can be blamed on injury.

Out of curiousity, where did you see that texting from upstairs is against the rules? I don't know either way, but that seems an awfully silly rule since many coordinators sit upstairs and you often see ownership on the sidelines...not trying do disagree with you that it is against the rules, I'd just like to try and find the rationale behind it...

As I'm sure you remember back on the "old" board both eo and Vers got pissed off for different reasons and left until the Browns closed down their cluster**** of a board.
I don't want to see either guy leave but we survived back then and we'll manage to muddle through if they leave again.
As far as Kyle Shanahan goes, his departure is neither a surprise nor a disaster. He'll be fine with Daddy and we'll be what passes for fine in Cleveland.

I've just about had it with this board. Just come out and tell me not to post here any more.
I have read your "What I Saw..." posts for years and they have been really valuable for me since I never get to see the Brown's play. I used to post on the old old board back at the turn of the Century (that just sound cool) so I have appreciated your input and breakdowns so for years. I never added much to the boards - just watched (I seem like a creepy stalker now) and read all the dialogue. So many good points of views and opinions on the boards in all areas so I hope everyone sticks around!

I could be wrong but I don't believe it was a permanent ban, was it? If not, you could have come back. But you didn't. At least not for a very long time.
This isn't worth an argument but C'mon, back when Shep was a Ref everyone got a stint in banned camp sooner or later. Hell, I got nailed with 3 weeks for agreeing with someone about something they were arguing with Shep about. I was told I was an "instigator". I actually thought it was kinda funny. The guy was so insecure he couldn't stand someone disagreeing with him.
Anyway, I think what people need to understand is this board should be a virtual corner bar. Where we all argue about the Browns but at the end of the day we all have a drink together and laugh at our misfortune at being Browns fans. Instead of being a gigantic pissin' match where it eventually deteriorates into, "Yeah, well, mine's bigger...."

No worry - they are not going anywhere! We refuse to give them permission to speak with another board... Not if I'm GM of the boards. HoF'ers are REALLY valuable, but nobody's irreplaceable... That said, I wouldn't let either of them go for anything less than two 1sts and a conditional....

It was permanent. It's all water under the bridge now and I only brought it up because I really did not choose to leave. LOL Oh, and mine is bigger! Just don't ask my wife for confirmation.
