Kenleigh had eye surgery on Friday morning and did well. She was groggy Friday but still seemed to act like herself. Then about 11:30 last night she got cranky, kept whimpering in her crib and then eventually cried. We couldn't get her to drink anything. She has that oral aversion, but we still know how to get her to drink her bottle when she falls asleep. Nothing worked, and she drank maybe 3 ounces in 24 hours. She cried all day today, which she never does. She is normally a very happy baby. Always smiling and playing and being goofy.

She also had some fevers during the night of 100.1 and 100.9. We decided to take her into the E.R., and she was admitted tonight. She had a temp of 103.9 when she got to her room, and still won't crack a smile at all. She looks out of it when she isn't crying and is all flushed from the fever. I'm not sure what s going on at this point, but she definitely doesn't feel well at all. She never cries like that, and she's breaking my heart. She's been through so much, and every time she starts to do well, something happens to her. She just can't catch a break.

I've had no sleep the last 2 nights between working and having to be up at 5 am for her surgery, and being up with her all night last night, so I'm going to go crash for a few hours, then go back up to see her. I missed some of the draft and had to kick everyone out (we were having a draft party today) to take her to the hospital.

Thanks guys. I was so tired when I typed this last night, I'm surprised it made any sense.

My wife stayed up there last night. Said her temp went up to 104.1 during the night, but came back down this morning. She's still cranky and crying a lot, sleepy. But she did drink some formula this morning, which is a plus because we couldn't get her to drink any before. I was going to go early this morning to relieve my wife there, but I was exhausted and didn't want to get up. I'm going to go get changed here and stop up and see how she's doing.

Well I came home to get the grass cut. Her temp was running lower today, in the high 99's to 100.7 rectally, which usually is a little higher that way. After a nap this afternoon, she finally perked up a bit and started to act a bit like herself. She started smiling and waving and playing with some of her toys, something she hadn't done since Friday. She was really worrying me. She just cried and whined everytime she was awake, and refused to eat. I got her to drink 3 3/4 ounces of formula this afternoon and would have drank more, but someone came in and made a noise that woke her up. Remember she won't drink her bottle while awake. That was more than she drank in over 24 hours the day before.

She still is sick and looks tired. Although she started to act a bit more normal, she still wan't perky. But it's a good step and I'm very, very happy to see her start to come around more. She still is a bit whiny because I'm sure she still doesn't feel good, but I hope by tomorrow she will.

She's back home!

She started to turn around last night and is somewhat back to normal today. She had a temp of 100.7 yesterday afternoon then that was the end of the fevers. She lost her voice completely either from all the crying or just from being sick. The doc said he thinks she happened to catch a nasty virus coincidentally with her surgery, which just made her miserable.

She started to scare me for a bit. She cried non-stop when awake, and fevers in the 104 range is getting up there. She looked miserable, and being a nurse myself it was starting to get to me. I felt bad because you don't know what to do for her, since she can't tell you whats wrong. Nothing made her stop crying or smile- holding her, favorite toys, etc. And she looked exhausted.

But after some good sleep and IV boluses and fluids, she started perking up Sunday afternoon. She is pretty much back to herself, but is just hoarse and still seems a little worn out. But she's not fussy, we are able to get her to drink, and she's playing again. I'm glad she's back home and doing well quickly, because she seemed to revert pretty bad in the hospital. The sight of anyone in her room coming in made her cry. Even some of our family, like my mom who watches her a lot, scared her. She'd start to cry if they came near her and she'd reach out for Daddy. She usually very happy and not like that, so I wanted her home so she can get back to normal. I think the surgery Friday is what messed her up, I was there as she hit the Recovery Room and woke up from anesthesia with 5 people standing over her, giving her oxygen, wrapping her up, checking, vitals, etc. and she completely FLIPPED OUT. She cried hysterically like I never saw her do before for over an hour before she pooped out and fell asleep. So I think she was scared in the hospital. Plus being poked for blood, catheteriezed having them not be able to start her IV, and having thermometers shoved up her bum, I'm sure she didn't want anyone but me and my wife to come near her. The only one she was ok with was my dad.

But I greatly appreciate the comments, thoughts and prayers. It means a lot. We've been through a lot with her, and talking on her helps me to get stuff off of my chest.
