Although the ball came loose upon contact with the ground, none of the camera angles showed the ball ever hitting the ground. No evidence I saw to overturn the call. That was a catch!!!

Yes, I think if a receiver catches the ball and maintains possession for two or three steps it should be a catch.

Then loses the ball as he's reaching for goal line?!? Blah. Bad call.

Catch. The play is over with the knee down. The ground cannot cause a fumble. And he never lost possession.

Did he match a great catch Iin the air? Yes.

Did he maintain possesion as he fell to the ground? No.

It wasn't a fumble.

The ground CAN cause an incompletion.

He was in full possesion of the ball as he was falling. When his arm hit the ground, the ball came loose but no camera angle showed the ball itself ever touching the ground before he regained full control. That was a catch!!!

Wow. Did karma ever bite dallas in the arse. Just as what happened last week, no flag should be picked up unless there is absolute evidence to overturn. It could be argued he made a football move and got 3 feet, a knee and an elbow on the ground while being down by contact before that ball ever touched the field. Although I take great pleasure in seeing the cowboys get their just due, I hate having refs decide games.

Bryant did maintain possession even though the ball moved after contacting the ground.

Did you miss the part where he rolled over and wasn't even touching the ball.. then regrabbed it?

If the official near them wasn't focused on spotting it, and actually saw him LOSE CONTROL OF THE BALL WHILE GOING TO THE GROUND.. they never would of called it a catch to begin with..

I haven't read any of the responses, but the talk on TV and twitter and all that, everyone is forgetting one thing...

When a "football move" is made, that completes the process of making the catch.

When Dez had possession and extended the ball towards the goal line, that should have been considered a "football move" thus completing the catch.

If the ball comes loose after that, it's a fumble because the catch had been completed.

Falling to the ground is not a Football Move.

I feel really sad watching these playoff games where the Browns haven't been in years with a bleak looking future.

And when he extended the ball.. It hit the ground and came out.. Which is why it's not a catch..

I give players credit for trying to extend plays. But I'd say over half the time that happens.. bad stuff happens.. If he just tucks the ball into his chest they have it at the 2..

Tony Dungy says this:

Even though 99% of people would say Dez play should be a catch--including me--it has been consistently called no catch for the last 5 years.

I would tend to agree with that....

But the point here is, he lost possession while making a football move -- Which means the catch was completed and he lost the ball making a move ... At worst it's a fumble, recovered by Dez.

Did you see the ball not touch the ground?

I saw the way he was holding the ball, and the way the ball moved, and have common sense and can understand that it hit the ground.

The 1st part of that is the only pertinent thing though.

It was not a catch. That is the rule.

So you never saw the ball hit ground? How do you then overturn the call on the field?

It was a bad call. Hate to see a hard fought game decided that way.

Didn't Cobb roll over the ball in a similar fashion on the tipped pass to seal the game that was ruled a catch?

It was an awful, game altering call.
