I know, no one cares until March but it needs a thread...

Down to 3 unbeatens --

Kentucky, Duke and Virginia.

Kentucky has looked pitiful in their first two SEC games against Ole Miss and Texas A&M.

It's almost to the point where I want a loss so we can re-focus on the important goal, of a National Championship.

for the Buckeyes,

they were out-played by Minnesota, but managed to scrape and scrape and scrape until they finally got a few breaks and took advantage. by OT, the Gophers had used up their bullets.

against Indiana, we out-played them, but made stupid mistake after stupid mistake down the stretch. despite it, we still had multiple chances to get the game back and managed to blow all of them (even airballing a 3pter led to an and-1 play, but we managed to miss the FT there).

good team, but they are playing disjointed and I think not really being tested in OOC play is a big part there.

Game of the YEAR!

That being said...I am an NCST fan...so, game of the year...for us!

I hope they don't let down against UNC on Wednesday, but that may be the biggest win for NCST since the last time they beat Duke at home 2 years ago. The Devils cant do it at PNC!

UVa might not lose a game all year. They just play defense so flippin well.

Candy once said Duke would "destroy" Kentucky.

Wonder if be still believes that after Duke has dropped 2 straight to mediocre teams.

Kentucky looks to have gotten back on track after struggling to open conference play.

Wonder if it was just a lack of enthusiasm entering a weak SEC after the tough non-conference schedule.

I try to avoid the "40-0" talk, but at what point does it start becoming a real possibility?

You'll probably have a few more close games this year but I'd be very surprised if y'all don't go undefeated

I still think Duke would win. Just like I think you overreacted to Kentucky struggling, you're doing the same with Duke. Switching to a zone is going to help them.

Thad Matta will not last 2-3 more years. He has whiffed badly in recruiting, especially in state. He was never that great at developing kids. He's just an X's and O's guy now. Problem with that is that there are a lot of great X's and O's type of coaches. He peaked and if we struggle next year, there's going to be a lot of grumbling. Zero chance he gets fired this year and about maybe 30-40% chance if he's bad next year. However, his time is running out. He gives me a Jim Tressell vibe. Tressell got lazy his last few years recruiting and developing kids.

We are 3 and 1 in MAC play. Should be 4 and 0 but had a second half break down in our home opener against Bowling Green . We dismantled Ohio U Saturday night. Probably facing our toughest opponent in conference play tomorrow against Toledo. Gotta slow down Juice Brown. I have a feeling we pull off the upset tomorrow night. Something has changed in practices and shoot arounds. Cant quite put my finger on it, but the spirit and vibe is just different. I think the Kansas trip did us a lot of good. I think the light has came on and these kids realize they can play with anyone if they play hard and smart.

We beat Toledo by 7 in our building

4 and 1 in MAC play. Go on the road this weekend and then back home on Tuesday. We have a very good chance at being 6 and 1 in conference after Tuesday. Definitely feeling excited for this next two months. Damn I am hoping for a MAC Championship and a NCAA bid

I'm back on the "No way Kentucky goes undefeated" wagon.

A game vs. A game, there's no one in the country that can beat us, I think that's obvious.

But, we've shown that we don't get up for a lot of games, and someone is going to catch us on an off night -- I just hope it's not in March/April.

I know I am kind of talking to myself because besides me, who really gives a shot about MAC basketball?? LOL

But another nice home win against a team that was supposedly better than us, going into the game media had us ranked us only the 4th best team in The MAC, yet every team they have ahead of us we have beaten, and at 6 and 1 have the best conference record of any of them and have more quality non conference wins. We held Central Michigan 30 points under their season average of 83 ppg.

Another big game for us Friday night at Buffalo. Games getting televised on ESPNU.

I was thrilled to get to meet Coach Hurley last year when Buffalo came to our building. Yes, Buffalo has a nice program up there and he has them continuing to get better from top to bottom .

That said, we whoop them tomm

Buffalo kind put the screws to em.

By all accounts, everything Ive heard about Bobby is how exceptional he is. He keeps doing great things that Coach Witherspoon just couldn't get over the hump. We'll see if Bobby can pull that off this year or next. Someone has to get them to the tournament.

Other notes...Duke getting the W AFTER dismissing Sulaimon is impressive and makes you wonder what he did to become the first player Coach K has EVER dismissed from a team.

Trevor Lacey saving NCST with a OT buzzer beater to win at GT...wow. Need to build after that terrible Clemson loss...but with Wake next and then UVa at home...they need to win both before Louisville, VT, and UNC...

Yeah just one of those tough nights for us. We were just flat for some reason. I am kind of wondering if being on the road was tougher with the late start time. It was definitely odd staying in the hotel until 7pm after getting the earlier shootaround time slot.

Yeah the 4 hour bus ride in crappy weather didnt help, but we traveled day before the game like we always do. So its not like we got off the bus on Friday and went in and played. I dont know, it was just a long day of sitting around the hotel, waiting to play

Just heard that Syracuse has self imposed a post-season ban for violations dating back to 2007.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Pretty classy of Syracuse.

Takes a lot of courage to self impose a ban when they were gonna miss the tournament anyway -- Can't believe they're willing to miss out on the NIT like that.

I want to compare Russell to Harden because they both have smooth well rounded offensive games, but Russell isn't as well built as Harden. So I don't know if Russell can finish in traffic as well as him. A year in a NBA weight room will do him good.

So.... the Terps beat Wisconsin. nanner and Seth Greenberg (or Captain Bubble as he's known in the ACC) gets on the fans for "storming" the court... His logic is that you are the #16 team, this shouldn't be that big of a surprise and you won a national championship not too long ago...

I'll tell you why I have absolutely no problem with them going out on the court:

1. They are kids, they want to celebrate and have fun and be a part of something.
2. The kids who are seniors there have never even seen Maryland make the tournament, this year they are on the verge of potentially being a 3 or 4 seed.
3. The kids at Maryland now were 6 or 7 years old when Maryland won the NC and also the last time Maryland even made it to the sweet sixteen (which was the following season).
4. It's fun and the whole notion of "act like you've been there before" is for the players, not the fans.

Great win Terps, now don't drop one to a team you should beat down the stretch. nanner

I understand college coaches have to adapt to their players, but it just amazes me how a team like Kansas runs a different offense almost every single year. No wonder they rarely do much in the tourney and get upset early. They went from posting you up with Thomas Robinson, to slashing & attacking with a mixture of 4 & 1 with Wiggins & Embiid, and now all they do is shoot 3's. How is Bill Self supposed to run a program when he can't run 1 system consistently? That's 3 completely different offensive styles in 3-4 years. Maybe it's just Self, because Kentucky, Duke & UNC always run the same philosophy. However, Thad Matta constantly changes too. Teams that do well, don't keep changing crap just because of their talent.

I'm just now starting to tune into more college hoops, however I have watched UK probaby 7 or 8 times this year. They're pretty amazing to watch.

There's nobody on their team as good as Anthony Davis, but they have a pretty similar team with the way they defend. You just look at that group and the length and athleticism is always superior to their opponent.

I think the close calls are a good thing to. I don't think at this point they need a loss to get back down to earth or any of that.

I'm not one to pick the favorite in my brackets, but I can't see any one team that can knock them out in the ncaa tourament.

It sounds odd because typically when you're less talented than your opponent, you want to slow the game down.

But to beat Kentucky, you need to push the pace. Scoring opportunities are already limited because of the way we defend. You have to get out, run and try to get some easy transition buckets.

If you let us sit back and play half court defense the entire game, you don't have a chance.

Just to add on to what you are saying about Kansas. When we played them at the end of December, our scouting was to go inside out and force the double in the paint. If our posts werent getting mugged on every play, with no calls, would have been a much closer game than the 16 we lost by

There is a reason why it is so difficult to win at The Phogg, and it isnt just the atmosphere.

Which BTW is absolutely incredible. I ended up walking back to the hotel after shoot around because I spent so much time walking around their Hall of Fame exhibit.
