Nearly 4 million people turned out around France Sunday to show they do not fear Islamic terrorists and to denounce the attacks this past week that left 17 innocent people dead. The heads of Great Britain, Germany and Israel were there. In all more than 50 heads of state gathered to denounce the killings. But President Barack Obama didn’t attend the unity march in Paris after the deadly attack on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. Nor did his secretary of state, John Kerry who has deep ties to France. It makes you wonder if there is really something to all the noise online from conspiracy theorists about Obama being sympathetic to Islamic terrorists. I mean the man won’t even join the rest of the world in using the term- Islamic terrorists. Which begs the obvious question- why not. I'm not a democrat, but all the crap this president gets by the right is certainly pushing me left. It's sad really.
Who were the 50+? How far did they travel to get there? Thus far, the farthest I've seen is Turkey (likely farther, haven't see it yet though) which is still less than 1/2 the flight time than from DC.
And how many of these heads of state (or their counterparts) were here in 2001?
This being said, someone should have gone.

The White House has admitted it was a mistake not to send a high profile representative. I agree, it was pretty stupid.

I dunno for sure... but one thing I'm pretty certain of: if he'd gone to the unity march, someone would have criticized him for: 1. not taking care of US business here at home 2. running off for a publicity grab 3. wasting taxpayers' money on a useless symbolic gesture 4. using the march to cover for his Islamic sympathies 5. being a 'failed terrorist' because his vest bomb failed to detonate I'm sure there would be more, but those folks are far more clever and inventive than I.

Only a few years back Obama could have made the short trip to France from Kenya. I love how the Libs here point out and blame everyone else for what people say or would have said but can never bring themselves to say the truth, Obama goofed, again. Blame the messenger! Ha!

The White House has admitted it was a mistake not to send a high profile representative. I agree, it was pretty stupid. Agreed. It's not that O didn't go. It's that O didn't go, Biden didn't go, and even Eric Holder who was IN France didn't go. (if what I've read is true regarding Holder being there) Instead, our ambassador attended. I agree with Clem to an extent - had O gone some would've griped about this that and the other thing.....AF1, why isn't he doing things here at home, the security detail needed.......on and on. But, for no other reason than appearance, someone higher up should've gone. Holder was there.

The right seriously will complain about anything. This is freaking stupid.

freaking stupid. Not at all. You want to know how Obama shows support against islamist? Last time I checked, we are at WAR with ISIS. It doesn't get much obvious with support than that.

Don't forget, Obama didn't call this an attack by radical Islam, like the rest of the world, I wonder why?

Maybe you should work on being able to form complete sentences and/or coherent arguments before calling other people or their arguments stupid? Just a thought.

CNN)—Could clues that police found in a hideaway outside Paris lead investigators to the lone remaining suspect in last week's terror attacks? Investigators discovered ISIS flags, automatic weapons, detonators and cash in an apartment, France's RTL Radio reported Sunday, citing authorities. They say the apartment had been rented by Amedi Coulibaly, who was killed during a police rescue operation to end his siege at a kosher grocery store in Paris, where authorities say he killed four hostages on Friday. But police say his partner -- and alleged co-conspirator -- Hayat Boumeddiene -- is still on the run. The last place authorities spotted her was somewhere near Turkey's border with Syria. And forensics teams have been examining the apartment in the Paris suburb of Gentilly to determine whether Boumeddiene, 26, might have stayed there before her escape, RTL reported. Coulibaly had rented the apartment from January 4 to January 11, police said, according to RTL. Police began looking into the apartment after the Thursday slaying of a policewoman in the Paris district of Montrouge, the station reported. Coulibaly was also behind that attack, authorities say. And the car in which he allegedly fled the crime scene was ditched in Arcueil, near the hideout, RTL said. After abandoning the car, Coulibaly boarded a train, police told RTL. The details about the hideout came as millions gathered at a massive rally Sunday in France, where world leaders, dignitaries and everyday citizens alike joined "unity rallies" in defiance of the terror rampage. Up to 3.7 million people marched throughout France Sunday, the spokesman for the country's mission to the United Nations said, describing it as the largest mobilization in his nation's history. http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/11/europe/charlie-hebdo-paris-shooting/index.html

I'll respond to this, though I take issue with the "lib' label: It WAS a screw up. International diplomacy includes events like these as much as it does negotiating treaties/fostering administrative goodwill, etc. Dumb is dumb. I just picked on some of the things we both know happen with every POTUS. Bush got his share of the same treatment during his 8 years.

I'm just surprised that GOP sheep are upset someone snubbed France. lol, that's what I'm thinking, and I lean toward the right on the political spectrum. If the French have a problem with us sending no one over there, what do I care (and I don't know if they do or don't). We bailed them out of two world wars and dealt with the problem in Vietnam, which they started. Syria was a French Colony for awhile too. And add that to the bad treatment Americans get over there (which I've first hand experienced). Yeah, they can go shove it. If this was Canada or the UK, I'd feel differently. I definitely hate Radical Islam, and while I don't read the trash that Charlie Hebdo or whatever puts out; I support their right do it in without fear of being shot. But I could care less about the French. Besides, that march had some suspicious characters according to this gawker article. http://justice.gawker.com/these-world-le...032136/+maxreadAnd I sure as heck don't support the current government of Turkey or Benjamin Netanyahu or anyone involved in the Saudi Arabian government. So yeah, I don't care that we weren't there

Don't forget, Obama didn't call this an attack by radical Islam, like the rest of the world, I wonder why? Maybe he felt killing Osama Bin Laden was enough. I wonder why Bush didn't kill bin Laden? Maybe he talked about terrorism more than he actually did to fight it?

I just thought if we were going to go around questioning every president about everything, it was all fair game. I mean if all we're going to do is throw out broad generalizations and ask unfounded, silly questions, where do we draw the line?

Yes, but he maintains he can work while on his luxury vacations and is kept informed. true... but never stopped his critics from making the same lame accusations as I speculated about (all except for maybe the last one) in my first post. Why not work on a trip to show solidarity in the world to benefit the whole country not just himself? "Why not?" indeed. Blown call, for sure. Priorities a bit skewed perhaps??? Perhaps. I haven't kept track of what O was up to during the rally.

Obama only goes somewhere in 2 cases
1. There is a personal benefit to him 2. There is a golf course near by.
It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

Typical thread around these parts anymore.
Looney left vs. ridiculous right vs. apathetic center who doesn't really care one way or the other, just wants to stir the pot.
Each one of you calling the other sheep.

Instead, our ambassador attended. Wait. So we have a guy whose only job is to represent our country at official events in a specific foreign country, and we sent him to represent our country at an event held in that specific foreign country, and people are up in arms about this?
